Hi, As you may know, the aluminum corrosion under the pulpit stanchion is likely due to the contact with stainless steel. When 2 dissimilar metals are in contact in presence of an electrolyte ( ie: salty water ), one will be attacked. You can slow down the process by separating the two metal with a non conductive material ( ie thin plastic ). Keep posting.
Thank you for the tip. That’s what the older gentleman helping me shared regarding the aluminum corrosion. I saw a thin piece of plastic under some the others and will look into replacing soon. Cheers
@@SaltyHoundAdventures If you plan to redo the installation, you can also add some Tef-Gel to the thread of the bolts to protect the aluminum where the bolt make contact.
New boot goofin’

Those boats were designed to charter in the Caribbean. Entertaining and accommodations were were the design goals and they succeeded in that. However, they are slow and steer like bathtubs. You can take a full turn on the wheel and it takes 15-20 seconds for the boat to respond. There are plenty of used boats on the market. Maybe look at a few more. Fair winds.
It would take weeks just to clean everything out of that boat and then over a year to get boat ready to sail. That's assuming you don't find more issues. It's a project for sure.
At least he cleaned it up real nice to get it ready to sell....
Nope!
Run run and run!..and keep running!😮
Perkins run ok ...when they are running...and when we needed parts they had to come from the UK.....my suggestion..find a Deer or a Cat or a Cummins...❤️🇺🇲
Should be a hard pass for 99.9 of people who are thinking about this.
Is it possible to transport a sailboat this size by truck? To me this seems like it'd be a long-term expensive refit, and only really financially practical for a DIYer to do it over time. Moving it close to home, or to a place that is cheap or free to work on would be ideal.
We bought a 40ft glass Navy launch out of Coos Bay and shipped it over the road as far east as the roads went (Cape Cod) for 5500$ in 2002.....the issue with over the road at the time was a 12ft width limit...wider required a costly permit and a pilot car $$$...❤️🇺🇲
There are trucking companies with specialized trailers. Check out oversized load permits for each state it enters
Try a drywall blade with corners softened. Pressure as you squeegee will lay a nice layer . Think Laminating, stretch it . A heat gun will speed up the leveling and can pop bubbles. Files and a Shurform hand shaper will knock any drips or mounds. A razor blade and scraper blades can save sandpaper, dust and time . Scrape your sandpaper when it gets blobs . 1 day epoxy is like cheese. Best for scrape , cheese graters and filing. 2nd day better for sanding as epoxy gets harder each day . 24 hours between coats is best . Acetone after sanding if over 24 hours. Can fix those edges with Blu tape on both sides, bad edge up . Pour epoxy and let it self level. Or thickened and something flat , covered with Blu tape and wedged against your board.
Great tips! Thanks for sharing
