I agree with Jimmy on discovering new things and telling people but what hurts is when Evangelical Protestants just poo poo it because they are so full of hate and so brainwashed about the Catholic Church that it makes me want to trash them and that makes me feel good too. I'd rather get my joy from teaching them, but some Protestants can't be taught, mostly because of pride.

I converted to Holy Orthodoxy about three years ago, from being a baptist previously. This has greatly changed my view of the Catholic Church and Catholics, I have a newly found affection and respect for my "separated brethren" in the Catholic Church, whereas, at various stages in my Christian life previously, I had been very scathing of the Catholic faith, indeed, in my early years, it was thought that the Catholic Church was "The great whore of Babylon" As I look back ,there was so much misinformation and many misconceptions of Catholic thought and teaching. A reunification of the Eastern and Western church would seem to be impossible, but it's still something I believe we should desire.

This was so wonderful! I enjoyed the conversation so much that I listened to it twice.😊 Thank you, Rabbi Joe, for sharing your wisdom. You truly do bless our lives. Thank you for your thoughts on truth at about the 28-minute mark. In the lds temple, there is a statement made about truth that has puzzled me. Your thoughts on the subject have helped me better understand what the statement means. I felt quite proud of myself because I knew the answer to the question you posed about the shema yisrael. I love that prayer. I have a copy of it on my wall. Thank you for helping me understand it better. I found it so interesting about the 13th gate into the temple. I had never heard of that before. I wonder how the number 13 got tied together with bad luck in the secular world when it has such glorious roots within Judaism? Lastly, I was wondering if you meant that we can learn good from every person or just simply learn from every person? Because I can think of many tyrants and despots that I'm not sure that I could learn anything good from.

At 15:17 in the video, Pastor Jeff said this: “God … doesn’t want my religious activity; He wants my heart… He wants our heart more than He wants our religious activity.” Indeed, God does what the "heart" of those who believe in Him. But God also wants "all thy soul, and … all thy mind, and … all thy strength” (Mark 12:30). Which is to say: Jesus wants His followers to Love and Serve God with a complete and whole effort; which includes a humble and broken “heart,” as well as faithful “strength” of action-physical deeds done by the "strength” of one’s body. For example, in the parable of the Sheep and the Goats, faithful actions accomplished through the "strength" of the body, are done by the "righteous" who shall go "into eternal life"-those who have fed the hungry, clothed the naked, and visited the sick or in prison (Matt. 25:42-46). I assume Pastor Jeff is discounting "religious activity," because of his interpretation of the Apostle Paul's words: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; … Not of works, lest any man should boast” (Eph. 2:8-9). This passage is traditionally interpreted to mean: Human Action plays no role in bringing about salvation by "grace." Here's the problem with that interpretation: First, this interpretation does not have “two or three witnesses” (2 Cor. 13:1; Matt. 18:16) from any of the other New Testament prophets. Second, this traditional interpretation-asserted many centuries ago-contradicts the teachings of both Jesus and James. How so? The following teachings of Jesus involve Human Action in order to accomplish them, and these Human Actions lead to being “saved” and entering “into the kingdom of heaven”- 1) “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven” (Matt. 7:21). 2) “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved” (Mark 16:16). 3) “And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved” (Matt. 10:22). These Human Actions must be done, in order to be "saved" and "enter into the kingdom of heaven." Further, add to these three teachings, the Parable of the Sheep and the Goats where Human Actions of Loving the “least of these” thru the “strength” of one’s body, results in gaining "eternal life" (Matt. 25:46). The assumption that Human Action plays no role in bringing about salvation is also contradicted by 12 verses in the 2nd Chapter of James-Bible verses that define an active Faith in Jesus Christ, as opposed to a passive, “dead” Faith: 1) “If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not [good] works, is dead, being alone” (James 2:15-17). 2) “Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my [good] works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without [good] works is dead?” (James 2:18-20). 3) Ye see then how that by [good] works a man is justified, and not by faith only. Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without [good] works is dead also” (James 2:24-26). And why is this definition of Faith important? Because Paul taught: "For by grace are ye saved through faith" (Eph. 2:8). And the Apostle confirmed: "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have ACCESS BY FAITH into this GRACE [emphasis added] wherein we stand" (Romans 5:1-2). Therefore, expressing Faith in Jesus Christ IS how we "access" saving Grace! And clearly a Faith that "is dead" (James 2:17, 20, 26) cannot access saving Grace! So, what did Paul mean when he wrote: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; … Not of works, lest any man should boast” (Eph. 2:8-9)? Paul clarified what he meant by the phrase "Not of works" in two epistles he wrote before his epistle to the Ephesians (A.D. 60-62). We simply need to find the passages where Paul spoke of "boasting" and of “works.” Here is one of Paul’s clarifications: In his epistle to the Galatian saints (written A.D. 55-57), Paul taught that it was those who followed the Law of Moses, who were prone to “boast,” that they might “impress” others. Paul wrote: “Those who want to IMPRESS [emphasis added] others by means of the flesh are trying to compel you to be circumcised. The only reason they do this is to avoid being persecuted for the cross of Christ. Not even those who are circumcised keep the law, yet they want you to be circumcised that they may BOAST [emphasis added] about your circumcision in the flesh. May I never BOAST [emphasis added] except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Gal. 6:12-14 NIV). Before writing his epistle to the Ephesians (A.D. 60-62), Paul wrote to the Romans (A.D. 57-59), and in this earlier epistle, Paul spoke of “works” and of “boasting.” “To demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus. Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. Because of what law? The law that requires works [of Moses]? No, because of the law that requires faith [in Jesus]. For we maintain that a person is justified by faith [in Jesus] apart from the works of the law [of Moses]” (Rom. 3:26-28 NIV). Therefore, in Ephesian 2:8-9 the Apostle Paul's phrase "Not of works" means: Not of the works of the law of Moses, lest any man should boast. Then, to draw a contrast between the Dead Works of the Law of Moses-by which some Jews boast-and the Living Works of the "law of faith" (Romans 3:27)-this is why Paul wrote the following, immediately after the verses that is commonly misinterpreted: "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto GOOD WORKS [emphasis added], which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them" (Eph. 2:10). Note in verse 9, Paul spoke of “works,” and then, in verse 10, he spoke of “good works.” This was to contrast the works of the law of Moses, compared to the good works of the law of faith in Jesus Christ. The former having nothing to do with the Lord's New Law of Faith, and therefore, nothing to do with accessing grace (Rom. 5:1-2). Both Jesus and His Apostle Paul declared a vital standard by which believers can correctly interpret God’s Truth: “In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established” (2 Cor. 13:1; Matt. 18:16). By what the Savior taught, and the 2nd witness of His Apostle James, God "established" that faithfully walking in "good works" not only shines the light of the Lord (Matt. 5:16), but also glorifies God (1 Pet. 2:12)-and such Faithful Walking is the outward manifestation of our inner Faith in Christ. This Gospel Truth explains why God judges the inhabitants of the earth by Human Actions which are outwardly manifest-specifically, whether we have "done good" or have "done evil" (John 5:29). God judges humanity and “every man according to their works" (Rev. 20:12-13). Jesus confirmed that Belief and Faith in Him, are inseparable from Following Him. The Savior said: "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also" (John 14:12 NKJV). Therefore, Love, Faith, and Truth are not merely thought or spoken, they are also done: "For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who DOES THE TRUTH [emphasis added] comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God” (John 3:20-21 NKJV). On the theme of Faith and Love manifest by Human Action, the Apostle Paul added his witness: "For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working by love" (Gal. 5:5-6 NKJV). Also, the Lord taught that “love” works by faithful obedience. Jesus said: “If ye love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15). Further, such faithful obedience results in “eternal salvation.” As the Apostle Paul taught: "Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him" (Heb. 5:8-9). This doctrine declared by Paul, is yet another witness that contradicts the common interpretation of "For by grace are ye saved through faith; … Not of works" (Eph. 2:8-9)-which is traditionally interpreted to mean that Human Action plays no role in accessing Salvation. As demonstrated in the Parable of the Sheep and the Goats, charity given to “the least of these” is not merely manifest by thoughts or spoken words-or by pure intentions-but also by faithful Human Action, done with all heart, soul, mind, and strength. And Jesus promised "eternal life" to those who manifest such Charity. ❤🙏
