So I striiped it down and set the frame upside down on a lift. Now we can do all the bottom side welding, add in a few gussets and get it ready for assembly.
Days are running short.

I haven't made any videos of that 1959 Buick Electra 225 rat rod build for Ratstock for more than a minute. Sorry bout that. Here's a little update of the latest progress. I started this video on Thursday and finished it up on Sunday. I think we are getting down to about 48 days left until the BIG DAY!

Here is the way we narrowed our 8.8 rear axle 2 and 7/8 " on the left side.
Front frame rails connected and narrowing the 8.8 rear axle

So in this video the Ratstock Ratrod Buildoff Buick Electra 225 chassis gets a little closer. We tried several methods to connect the frame rails together and finally made some pieces I approved. The rear axle was cut, removing 2 7/8 " from the drivers side. We will grab a right side axle shaft to put on that side.

Tonight we ran some string lines and took some measurements to lay out the chassis. Andrew cut out some more of the old, and we are taking it outside to clean it up so we can por the inside.

Ton of work left to do. Best of luck. I know I'm going to need some luck to get mine done.
Yeah …. I’m worried about mine … I had a major struggle session last night ! Good luck to you both and see you in a few weeks!
Good luck finishing for Ratstock…. I’m trying to get there myself…
I’ll tell you a little secret some of us who have been coach builders uses we would take a photograph of the whole thing, the whole side of the car one from the front as well and from the back go to Kinko’s blow that up using the wheels as a unit of measure so the picture is as big as the standard wheel. It will be underneath the car. This picture or pictures can be copied taped on the wall and literally cut and paste the other sections of pictures the copies onto that full-size rendering it is in fact what you were doing in three dimensions But you can try ideas before you commit and cut too much or get too far along and then you notice you didn’t like it. You can do this with smaller pictures and copy them taking razor, knife and scissors, cutting the pictures up and laying the panels on each other I just didn’t know if you had ever heard of this method of a literal cut and paste pictures we have use this method stretching limos and making horses as well as custom cars I’m 70 years old and I’ve done this a long time the guys at Ford and General Motors showed us this trick years ago to help us it can literally get you in the ballpark faster if you do full-size renderings, but small ones work as well. Hope I can help you in someway. Love what you doing
thats a great idea, thanks for sharing
Good to see you back with the video, any kind of update or just your regular work day around the shop will keep your fans cheering , but I do love that you’re teaching that grandson and and love that Buick
thanks for the encouragement
No worries about the no show..... just keep her coming along 😀
Some very impressive fabrication there Gary. Certainly has come on a lot..... Maybe you will win ?
thank you. I am building to win
We can always use new car guys.👍
Its crazy to see a car built from scratch like this. Nice.
Rear Axle Repair Bearing 7.5" / 8.8" 1979-2004 National: BCA RP-5707 There about $48 a side well worth it to not need to clean shaving out of the pumpkin every time the rear axles go out
Been checking out your videos looks cool god bless brother be safe and keep up all the amazing builds
Much appreciated
I’m Not a fan of the 8.8 I been doing axle bearing in them for years one of fords worst axle designs ever I put brand new axles in from any part store with new bearings I get about 18 to 22,000 out of a set it’s garbage ford could of put a bearing with a center bearing race instead you use the axle it’s self I wonder what think tank ceo at ford though that Mickey Mouse deal up made ford a lot of money got one tip those don’t use the open bearing you get in the axle kits the reason why is that bearing goes out the shavings go all thru your differential fluid all that metal flakes go down the tubes in to the pumpkin then your gonna need to change every thing these bearing are called replacement bearing they got a inner seal that faces in the axle tube this way the shavings stay all in the axle instead of blowing out the center member there a way bigger bearing you hammer them In slow there like two inches deep with the inner seal buy them Save your self some headache later
Nice job bro looking good
Good info thanks
your welcome. it was my first time. i hope it comes in handy
You should have at least three grinders, one with a wire wheel, one with grinding disc and one with a cutting wheel.....saves a lot of time rather than keep changing out to what you need...
Thanks for the tip, man you know thats right
Definately need to narrow, (at least the front). Tricky to get the proportions right on something like this, but,yer gettin' it! Love,,,DUBS,,,,,
The music junked another video 👎👎👎👎👎💩💩💩😬
The last inserted piece of video was your best yet
thank you
What on earth is the orange shirt guy trying to accomplish ? Or does he get paid by how many disc he can go through ?
THANK"$ FOR SHOW"N !!! ... .. . 😂 BROTH"R 😮🤩🐎🤠 🤪
Like the helpers FFA T-shirt!
making good progress but one concern is the engine mounting is dead on the joint of the frame...something to look into...and lets try and maintain some P.P.E we cant be cutting grinding and the like and compromising safety
i think the motor mount straddling the frame joint works to add strength. I spent some time in front of the mirror about that PPE. I will de better.
Hey how about telling the young man to put on safety glasses.
I spent some time in front of the mirror about that PPE. I will de better.
What body were those headers originally for? thank you. Happy Father’s Day. Smitty.
CORVETTE SIDEPIPE HEADERS
Some good progress. 👍
Thanks 👍
Making progress, are you going to tie it all together with a roll cage?
not planning a roll cage
Coming along nicely 👌
Speed holes!
Great video love that crossmember style
Thanks!
