My daddy used to make a lot of bets on these. He didn’t know that they were prerecorded but the bookie sure as shit let him place bets. My dad shot himself, my mom and my brother to death after he gambled the last of his money away on these stupid horses.

Wonder if they used to try & guess what color the ppl on screen wore..wonder if this at all effected ppls dreams and in the dreams the black and white was a reality. The old horror films, slight crackling in the sound when silent, the super dark parts you can barley make out, really are my favs still..it showed just enough to let your imagination do most of the work with backround details.

I remember watching these as a kid. Foodland in WV distributed the game cards. It's funny how, watching these now, the finishing sequence was always the same in every race.

Could someone with engineering background on this explain the pattern as he switches the color on? There are some back and forth and in-between fields for a while before it switches over fully, and I was wondering what was going on with that.

I never heard of that station until now. However, I recall the move to colour, initially in the U.S. and then when Canada switched on colour in 1967, for the country's centennial. I remember American TV boasting some show being in colour, such as Disney's wonderful world of colour. Of course, since our TV was B&W, I didn't see much difference. 🙂 I do recall some people had a colour TV in the early 60s, with the round picture tube, masked off to make it appear more rectangular. There was one occasion, when I visited the CBC flagship station in Toronto, CBLT, and watched them produce a show in colour. Then they had to pack up their one colour camera, to take to Maple Leaf Gardens, for the Maple Leaf's hockey game that night! 🙂 Things have certainly changed, when these days anyone can have a HD colour camera in their pocket, in a smart phone!
