The ONLY Way You Should be Stripping Models From Your MINIATURES (SAFE AND EFFECTIVE)
#scalemodel #miniature #hobby
Maniacs, how we doin? Every so often we make serious mistakes while making our beautiful military models. It is no secret that all of us have created something so hideous, so utterly difficult to live with that we have considered just throwing a finished kit into the trash. Well, the reality of the situation does not have to be so bleak. In fact, second chances are possible with the use of the very common household cleaner, SIMPLE GREEN. I know that there are other videos out there documenting the process on how to strip a model with a variety of chemicals but this one is quick and gets right to the chase of how you can use this wonderful, non-toxic cleanser to give your terribad models a second chance at life.
All you need is a bottle of simple green concentrate, a Tupperware bin, and an old toothbrush. Oh, and some elbow grease, thats the most important part. With a little effort, you can undo the mistakes of the past and look towards a brighter tomorrow.

    The nostalgia is strong with this one =) My first Tamiya armor kit, 1970-ish? Sooo much better than the Renwall and Monogram 1/32 armor kits I'd slapped together up until then (just a little snark). Goes to show what the application of well developed techniques and skills can do. The proverbial silk sack from Peppa's ears. What did you use for your protective clear coat? I cant bring myself to try anything else than Future, mainly because it sprays so well and even, dries fast and tight to small details, and is tolerant of "hotter" thinners. But open to suggestions. Have used Vallejo and AK semi and flat finishes for acceptable final coats. Cheers!

      @JBookieScaleModels Місяць тому

      Thanks for the comment! I use a few coats of Vallejo gloss poly… which is just future lol… people yell at me for making shiny models… but the shine brings out the detail so much more… it’s a model, not a battlefield relic.

      @@JBookieScaleModels Thanks for the response. Though i still may prefer Future, I've come to like AKs Gauzy as well (no doubt a repackaged Future like floor polish).

    Nice job , im not a professional builder, i do ok, my people think there really nicely built, until i show them this stuff, im just starting to weather, can you tell me why people paint all them coats on including black ? Thank you from Ocala Florida

    • @aaronb.8838
      @aaronb.8838 8 місяців тому

      The black is a primer. By using a primer it helps the paint apply evenly and actually stick to the plastic/metal model. It definitely makes a difference. The different layers of green allows you to build up shadow and draw attention to detail. It also allows you to slowly build up color. If you look at surfaces in real life you’ll notice how even though it may be a single color material, parts directly exposed to light are a brighter shade than those that are hidden. I don’t have airbrush experience but it’s the same painting ideas as brush applied paint.

    Looks great! Did you use a mat varnish at the end? Why or why not?

    • @JBookieScaleModels
      @JBookieScaleModels 11 місяців тому

      I used to matte gloss everything but realized that it often drowned out hours of detail work. A nice semi gloss actually works really well and depending on the look you’re going for, even full gloss can look super nice. Just keep in mind that different glosses can affect saturation diffidently. If you modulate colors and hit with a full gloss they will look way different than if you used semi or Matte.

    • @JBookieScaleModels
      @JBookieScaleModels 11 місяців тому

      Depend on the look you are going for….realistic, probably flatter like a matte. I tend to like the semi glosses myself m, best of both worlds. Try some Vallejo varnishes, im a big fan.
