FAQ About Getting a UX Design Job Career & Life Updates
Thanks for this video, really helped alot!
This was such a raw, but empowering video. As someone who is wanting to exit nursing and get into tech...I felt this in my soul, and I needed it. Thank you. <3
thanks for this video, i was let go from my IT job a couple weeks ago and ive thought about doing UX for the longest time.
❤❤❤
What would you recommend for someone over 30 who doesn't have the 4 years degree, in the process of a career change to UX design, what would be the path you recommend, education wise? I've done a lot of research and I want to invest in the right education to learn the right way, I've learned it's more broad than most people advertise so I feel like bootcamps might not be enough or maybe i could do that in conjunction with something else ? I would really value your advice!
Hey Morgan! Thank you so much for this video. I feel so overwhelmed as a ux designer, haven’t gotten a ux job yet and I am starting to feel like I don’t belong here or even qualifies and don’t know enough
Finally a decent video about careerfoundry i am halfway through data analytics program i was wondering if someone really got a job from it because me no money for school
Thanks Morgan I'm probably gonna buy this this week
GA is fast and not easy and no job guarantee. 5 months and still looking for a job.
Definitely on my immediate future figma design bucket list...thanks Morgan!
Thanks, gonna watch vaexperience videos. I currently looking for a UX/UI designer job for 7 months after graduating from a bootcamp.
I'm Sold. Getting it asap!
Do you think i should get into a bootcamp if i have no degree? Im also in my late 20’s so going back to school isnt really an option.
I love this so much because I’m currently at this stage, I took the Google UX course and I started seeing terminologies I never heard of and it’s distracted me from Doing the foundational things I learned.
Can you switch to ux after a vfx and 3D animation bachelors?
Thank you so much for this video 😭 I’m tired of seeing all these aesthetic work at home videos where everything is perfect I’m a UX beginner so it’s really nice to see what a day of the UXer actually looks like Your channel is such a wonderful discover for me!
Thank you for the pep talk. Hope you're doing well!
I appreciate that you have such an optimistic outlook on this topic, especially because it feels like some creators seem to go about things in a fear-mongering way. I’m still in the process of taking a UX Design course, so I haven’t gotten my feet wet yet. BUT, I do think that AI will simply be a TOOL for designers. Like you said, AI isn’t capable of having empathy, which is a huge factor in the spirit of UX.
Completely agree - I'm already in the field and find myself getting down by 'UX influencers' only talking about negative things. The tech industry in general goes up and down - but in my opinion UX isn't going anywhere.
What do you guys think? Will AI take over? 🤖
Thanks so much for making these videos! I'm considering going to a UI/UX design boot camp as a career pivot and your videos have been super helpful. I'd love to see how you would redo this case study :)
That is a GREAT idea! Thank you so much!
Love your videos, looking forward for new season
Thank you so much 😭
“Oh yeah and we got engaged” LMFAO, but congrats Morgan
Hahaha yeah I have a bad habit of forgetting 😂 feels like we've been married for a while!
Thank you so much for this video!
So glad it was helpful!
Was wondering if you could make a video on the UX design world now that AI is out and about
Great idea! I'm not an expert but I'll definitely make a video of my personal opinions
Thank you SO much for this video. I cannot tell you enough how much I appreciated this.
I'm so happy that you found it helpful!
You spoke directly to me girl
You're not alone in this!
The pain of existence with a big smile jaja. Congratulations on the house!! I love your channel.
Hahaha yeah I guess I need to stop saying it now 😂
THIS IS THE BEST VIDEO IVE SEEN ON UA-cam THUS FAR. thank you for being so real
Omg thank you so much, I'm so happy that you found it helpful!
Omg the Teams bling notif made my heart drop for a second. 😭😭😭
It plays in my nightmares
always back up what you say
Hey Morgan, thanks for your videos… I was wondering what is your pay as a UX designer. Or you can give an estimate. And do you think Ux/ui will last long in tech industry. Can it be replaced by AI?
Hello! UX designer pay really depends on the company/area/role - but entry level roles generally start around $70k that I saw. I will make a video in the future all about my pay! Regarding AI, I'm not an expert but from what I've learned I am not concerned about AI taking over jobs.
Love the genuine & honest energy!! 👏 great walk through
Thank you so much 🤗
I'm looking at a place like Career foundry or Designlab or USF's bootcamp. USF is quite a bit more. I can't decide!
So sorry I didn't see this sooner! I will just say from my personal experience that I have not heard great things about bootcamps that are connected to universities. That doesn't mean USF's isn't good or that something like CF is better, that's just my personal experience.
I’m considering a career change and just recently started entertaining the idea of UX/UI. I’m currently signed up for the Google Certificate. Would you recommend a bootcamp after that?
So sorry I didn't see this sooner, I stopped getting comment notifications for some reason. I have not personally done the Google Certificate, but I imagine it's on par with a bootcamp (only difference might be that Coursera doesn't have dedicated tutors/mentors or job prep like bootcamps tend to). It's all about your learning style - if you feel that you can learn enough from the Google Certification program that you can go off and do your own projects then I would go for it. But if you want to do a bootcamp regardless, I'd skip the Google program and go right to the bootcamp.
Hi, I was thinking about getting an associates degree in graphic design and then transitioning into ux/ui design. Do you think that a bachelors is that much necessary for you to get a ux design job and get into the field?
I know someone who doesn't have a bachelor's but did a bootcamp and got a UX job (it did take a while though). I really can't say how much having a degree in something affects your job prospects because I do have a degree (even though it's not design related). When our team is hiring and I look at resumes I don't really care about education, I immediately look at the portfolio. So your main struggle would be getting past the initial screening that gets you to the hiring team.
Good video Morgan, this helps me to keep going. At what age did you realise you wanted to switch from marketing? Thank youu!
I started my UX bootcamp when I was 22, but I don't think I ever really liked marketing lol
Is it possible for newbie at UI UX to get a job these days? All i see is recruiting seniors and mid-levels so i am kinda lost now. How do I improve to be better? Thanks for amazing video
Of course! Tech is in a weird place right now so there will be ebbs and flows of UX jobs. The main way to improve is to build out your portfolio and show improvement in every project. It helps to work with small local businesses who may need a new website, or a friend who has an app idea.
Hi Morgan. I’m looking at Career Foundry as well. It claims that there is a job guarantee. Is that how you got your gig? The 6 month time lapse before you got your final gig is a bit concerning.
Hi! I did not go through with the job guarantee program, I wish I had, but it fortunately worked out for me. It took me 6 months because I was very picky in my job search - I wanted to stay somewhere long-term. I also took a lot of time to work on solo projects.
Thanks @@MorganUX I’m leaning towards not going to a course. Think I can grind on my own and get something decent. Thanks again.
Your talk deeply resonated with me, especially as a self-taught individual. Beyond mastering design tools, the journey includes prototyping, various research methods, design processes, case studies, presentations, and whiteboarding - an endless process. Your insights have given me the confidence to start my own case study. Despite knowing what needs to be done, psychological barriers like fear and self-doubt pose powerful challenges to overcome.
OMG good luck with your case study! Analysis paralysis is real, just remember that the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the next best time is right now. You've got this!
Thanks a lot Morgan! Keep up the good work with your youtube channel, too! Let's plan trees one by one! @@MorganUX 🌲🌲🌲🌲
Starting my UX/UI bootcamp with the University of Denver next month! Super excited!!
Best of luck!!!
@@MorganUX thank you so much!
Omg I love your critique ❤
Thank you! :)
opinion on general assembly's bootcamp?
I haven't taken it so I can't really speak on it. All I can say is that I chose not to take it because of the price and I believe they encourage you to go full-time, which didn't work for me. But others have gotten jobs from it!
That’s great news! Good luck🎉 is it still possible to buy you a coffee and get some feedback for a portfolio? 😊
Thank you so much! Unfortunately I don't have the ability to commit to Buy Me a Coffee anymore, but you can leave your portfolio link in this comment thread and I can review it for a video if that works!
Girl, you are speaking straight facts! I am learning UX from the Google course and I needed to hear this. Thank you for telling the truth! :)
So happy you found it helpful!
When did you graduate from your bootcamp?
April 2021
Hello Morgan, I am excited for your learning journey. I would also like to ask if there are any scholarship program for UI/UX for undergraduate student?
Hi! I'm not sure I am qualified to answer this. If you're talking about university, there are always scholarships available to undergrads. Graduate school is trickier, I didn't have much luck with that! But definitely use things like fastweb and scholarships.com
Thanks for your information. Love to see more contents from you
Super excited for you Morgan! Congratulations!
Thank you! <3 :)
I don't think that you still feel this pain of existence. Maybe before but definitely not now. Look inside. You are happy. Good for you. 🤞🤞very best for you. 🎉Congrats.
Hahaha I suppose things are going well, thank you so much for your support! <3
Congratulations again, Morgan, on starting your master's program and thanks for taking us on your journey through grad school! I graduated from Designlab's UX bootcamp and also completed an internship with a real estate finance startup, but finding a UX job continues to be a big challenge! I have a teaching background and at this point, am debating on if I should pursue instructional design. My friend who introduced me to bootcamp sadly got laid off as a UX designer and wasn't able to land one either. ☹️ She was thinking of applying to an MS program in Learning Design and Technology and I might try as well! Any of your insights would be appreciated! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on why you are taking this opportunity whilst also continuing your full-time career! Makes sense to me. I'm curious to know how things go along the way, so I'll stay tuned! Love your shirt and yay for being a homeowner! 🏡 (my internship project was actually about helping customers save money to buy their first home!)
Definitely could have used your internship project during my house hunt! So sorry to hear about your friend and your struggle during your job hunt! I always recommend that people play around with things like their resume when they're not getting bites. I saw a difference in my job hunting success when I started writing brief descriptions of design projects I had done on my resume, as well as writing descriptions of impact and purpose instead of bullet points of tasks for my experience section. If you're getting through to recruiters but not hiring managers, you might want to take a look at your portfolio. If you're getting to interviews but not getting offers, it's time to practice interview skills. I can't offer you advice on if you should get more education, I feel that would be unethical. I can say that I personally wouldn't pursue education over projects due to the financial aspect, and I have never heard someone say that their job search suddenly turned around because of an additional degree. If UX is something you really want to pursue, I would take on more freelance (even unpaid) or solo projects to continue to build your portfolio and get your hands dirty - that's just what I would do! Best of luck!
Thanks, Morgan! I appreciate your wise insights! ✨️
