Perch From 23 Feet - Bathurst Basin Fishing in Bristol City Centre
Bristol city centre is truly blessed to have the Floating Harbour winding its way through the urban landscape. It’s a feature that lends the area a sense of charm and serenity amidst the hustle and bustle of city life. On a weekend, there’s something inherently satisfying about taking a leisurely stroll along its edges, admiring the diverse array of boats moored along the quay, and indulging in some quiet people-watching. Few stop to ponder what lies beneath the harbour’s murky waters.
Curiosity about this underwater realm often pulls me to a quieter corner of the Floating Harbour that feels worlds away from the commotion of the city centre, Bathurst Basin. With its usually peaceful surroundings, it’s one of my go-to spots for a few hours of fishing. My target species is my favourite fish species, the Perch.
However, fishing here is never straightforward, and today is less easy than most. Between the ever-watchful cormorants that dive with precision to snatch up fish and the clamor of the local cleanup crews clearing debris from the waterside, the Perch are constantly on edge. Add to this the dropping temperature, which makes even the simplest tasks feel more taxing. That's without the fact that there’s a 9-foot drop to the water’s surface, and below that, another 14 feet of murky depth before the bottom of the water where the Perch are likely to be skulking, waiting for prey in the shadows.
Come and join me, fishing the full 23 feet!

Portishead Marina Gobies - Sea Fishing with Coarse Gear

Sea fishing is an aspect of angling that I dont do very often. Im a pleasure fishing coarse angler at heart, having learnt all my techniques on fresh water, ponds, lakes, rivers and canals. But that doesnt mean that the skills learnt in one area arent transferable to another! Many times in the past I have acompanied a fellow sea angling friend to catch some of the many, many species of fish tha...

Anglers Paradise - Mystery Lake River Fish

Embarking on an angling adventure at Anglers Paradise is akin to delving into a realm where the ordinary is left behind, and the extraordinary awaits at every turn. While the majority of the species are still-water specialists, there are some fish to be found that are also more at home in running water streams and rivers. As I set out in search of elusive treasures such as the cunning Perch, th...
There's No Place Like Ham - Ham Green Lake Tench and Bream

Ham Green Lake, particularly the coarse half, stands out as one of the most beautiful fishing venues I have ever experienced. From the moment you step onto the boardwalk and make your way to the bank, you're enveloped in a magical atmosphere. The lake's expansive spread of lilies provides both shelter and feeding grounds for an array of resident fish, including Roach, Rudd, Eels, and many other...
The Rivers Reopen - Dace Fishing the River Chew on the Glorious 16th
Переглядів 5525 місяців тому
There is a date in the angling diary that all true anglers eagerly anticipate: June 16th, the day the rivers reopen after being closed for three long months. On this day, any angler worth their salt is out trying to catch big Barbel and chunky Chub. However, as the angler I am, I prefer to spend this glorious day fishing for the smaller species, and get away from the mad rush. The stunning Dace...

On The Pole - Pole Fishing Ponds
Переглядів 3566 місяців тому
Pole fishing holds a special place in my heart, though I rarely indulge in it. The pole itself carries a nostalgic weight, a gift from my father procured from an angler at Ashmoor Lakes many moons ago. Despite its infrequent use - tucked away at my parents' in Basingstoke - it beckons to me, particularly as the weather cools. There's an undeniable allure to pole fishing on crisp, cold days. It'...
A Complete Blanker...(Almost) - Basingstoke Canal Fishing

A little while ago I put out a poll on this channel. I had spent the whole day fishing and filming and had caught nothing. The question was as follows: Do I make up the video anyway and just post a video where I catch no fish at all because it's waste to delete it all, despite the fact no-one will watch it? Or resign the whole day to the Recycle Bin, because who wants to watch a potential 30 mi...

What exactly is a Pumpkinseed, you might wonder? Well, it's not exactly native to these parts. This colourful little fish hails from the waters of North America and found its way here through the intricate channels of the fish trade. Anglers Paradise - Going for Gold - Float Fishing Lake Ornamentals
Thanks steve. You may find it better if you had a puller bung ? I have poles only 6 mtr and i dont even use it at full length. I dont see the need to go 13/14/16 mtrs, cant see float anyway .
I find that too. I still rarely use the pole, but I find it so enjoyable when I do. Need to use it more and get more practice in with it really 😊👍🎣
I used to fish from my workplace right opposite where you were on your video. That was 40 years ago and no one believed there were fish in there until I brought a keep net one day and showed them the catch . You have a great attitude towards your fishing and make fun videos, keep up the good work :)
A very nice video, thanks for sharing! Primarily because of the convenience, I also usually fish the nearby river and neglect more exciting fishing waters for which I would have to travel further. I love short old Winklepicker rods with an old-fashioned soft action, especially for cramped and overgrown fishing spots.
Thanks for the latest video 👍 my wife and I usually fish near Avon bridge. Just a 4 metre whip with bread or worms. Have had some nice Roach and Bream from that area. Out of interest , where do you get your maggots from? Cheers
Most often from Premier Angling in Keynsham. I dont drive, so a quick trip on the train from Temple Meads is just the ticket 😊👍🎣
Have not caught a gudgeon for years. Not many places near me where I can. Mostly commercial fisheries. Fed up catching carp. Want to get the float out catch some natural species. Love the videos.
Great vid glad your still getting out and doing it have you came across any carp in the feeder stretch or in the basin near the ostrich pub buddy ? Tight lines fella
I've hooked what must have been a Carp in the feeder, but with very light line, I had no chance of landing it. I've seen another a gler catch a Carp from Bathurst Basin, but mostly Bream 😊👍🎣
Another brilliant video. I love watching and listening to you. Is the feeder free to fish?
you're in my spot again :P
Thanks for the upload chap. Just one thing, i don’t like the kissing ? Never know what fish germs you could get.
It was something I picked up from Rex Hunt when I was a kid. 'Kissing em, throwing them back', a catch and release program. True, they could have something, but people are more than happy to kiss dogs and cats, and they lick their own bums 😅 😊👍🎣
Enjoyable watch and enjoy your enthusiasm by the Bankside. You are right you can’t beat a day fishing in Winter 👍
Love these fish. They are so interesting. To sit and watch them build a little house is so joyful.
Hi. I m new to fishing. Could u plz tell me the places where i can fish free. Coz paying on the lake every week is alot to me. Thanks
You can fish this bit for free for certain. Check out my playlist 'Free Fishing' for all thr venues I've fished that are free. (With a rod licence.of course) 😊👍🎣
Nice fish, shame they out the water for so long !
It may seem like that in the edit and I apologise for that. I will say that I am very mindful that when it comes to getting video content for things like this it can be a juggle with trying to film and fish care. I dont show it enough, I agree, but I always follow these rules behind the scenes: I always have a net under the camera, so if the fish jumps, it just pops back into the net. Which is always wet. For a larger fish, I keep it in the net in the water between shots. For smaller fish I have one of those collapsible bucket/bag things with a rope on. Often used for collecting water to put on unhooking mats, or a bait tub of venue water. Between shots the fish is put in that to keep wet. Or back in the net like a big fish. If a fish looks to be in ANY trouble, it just goes back unfilmed. Simple as that. I'll endeavour to make sure I show that in future videos more often. I think I'll even do a video one day showing what filming a video while fishing actually entails.and give a behind the scenes of all I try to do to get the balance right. Forget a lovely long day of fishing, thats for sure, half the day is spent filming. 😊👍🎣
You obviously don’t teally know Marsh Farm as there are actually 4 lakes, you missed off Johnsons
Truly a breath of fresh air
Just liked and subscribed. I’m keen LRF angler based in sunny Cornwall. On the rare occasions I find myself in Bristol, my first attempt to fish there cost me most of my LRF gear. However, I’ve braved it again today. I’m staying at Temple Meads; can you suggest the best spot for me to try for a few small species? I use micro lures and isome worms, so I’m guessing perch will be good, but silvers will also take isome. Would Bathurst Basin be my best bet, or should I have a wander along the canal? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Great watch well done. Were going AP with my kids on saturday. We will probably spend most of our time on this lake as my lads want to fish for their first carp. Can i ask what bait you were using as freebies and hookbait please. Many thanks
Just a few little micro pellets and maggots. They really weren't bothered what it was, just that there was plenty of it going in 😊👍🎣
I absolutely love catching Gudgeon
It is the Sargasso sea, it's part of the Indian ocean
Thank you! I know I'm not the only one suffering, but, when black dog visits that's how I feel. I'm now coming 62 & depression has followed me since the age of 12, I need the release that nature gives, whether out with my bins doing a bit of birding or sat on the bank anticipating the next fish, it's raining, its windy, it's boiling hot or freezing cold, anything is better than feeling that there's a heavy dark blanket draped over me. I am here for anyone who wishes to drop a comment & help each other defeat our hidden enemy. Go quietly amidst the noise & haste & remember what peace may be found in silence....🐟🪱🎣👍
Where is this locates mate?
Hi mate, where is the location please?
Cheers, defo gonna check this lake out!
I use to catch these as a kid 7yrs old I caught a load of them took them home & put them in a little tank my dad saw them & said to my mom look at what she’s got here bloody stickle Backs 😂they looked great all shouling then I put them in my pond a old white porcelain sink at the top I of the garden.. I was always at ponds canals anywhere there was water I’d be there.. my first fish at 3 from the fair that was it been keeping fish 55yrs I’m now 58 & have 5 dirted heaverly planted tanks the best way to keep fish no cleaning no water changes no diseases Cristal clear water & all having babies… Over stocked with no issues tge plants do everything Watch father fish planted tanks I do the same leaves from the river & ponds added plus wild pond plants if I like them
Is this part of the day ticket lakes? I'd like to come and fish for the golden tench kio and orfe but as far as I can tell from the website you need to stay on the main site? Great video tight lines
This is the main holiday site for holiday makers, but there are day ticket lakes with plenty of the Anglers Paradise famous ornamemtals in. Give AP a call and ask for more details, they are always happy to help put you on the fish you want 😊👍🎣
Great video 👍 I found your channel searching for bullhead fishing, I did a species hunt last year for the first time managing 39 fresh/sea fish and this year I'm up to 47 it's been fun but hard work so want to give it all this year to never do it again! 😅 I spoke to the owner of finch farm after watching this and will be doing 8hrs in the car to get a punkin fish and it'll be worth it if I do they look great and 🤞 for a gold fish too 👍 love the channel tight lines
Hi Steve, recently found your channel and really enjoying your videos.Enjoy your relaxed and humurous attitude towards fishing. It's not always about catching big nets of fish is it, it's about relaxing and enjoying nature too.Suffer with depression myself and anxiety and find fishing has that calming effect when surrounded by nature . Anyway i have subscribed and look forward to watching more of your vlogs.
Just booked our second trip to Anglers Paradise for next July. Can't wait! What an amazing experience, I'd recommend any angler to visit at least once. Koi lake is my favourite.
Steve, I love your vids. So peaceful and truly enjoyable, it’s not all about fishing, the wildlife is also important. Keep them coming. Regards Jim
You make me feel as though I absolutely need to schedule a trip to Anglers Paradise. The lakes look lovely and distinct, the tench and main lake have taken my eye! Is there anywhere in west wiltshire which you would recommend though? thats closer to where I am currently
I don't head into Wiltshire often, but I do plan to. If I find anywhere, I'll certainly put a video up 😊👍🎣
Thanks Steve. Its nice to see people older than me (71) catching and enjoying their fishing 🎉👏👍
Love your vlogs 👍 I'll be down at A.P middle of August for a week. Absolutely love it down there & Mystery lake is my favourite as well 😂
Nice video, i am from the Netherlands and i fish the same way you do and i am loving it. Keep up the good videos 👍
Was good to meet you and aaron at anglers paradise. I was the one with the other capital winner. Got to follow you on here after that world record gudgeon may get some good fishing tips 😂😂
Good vid, i would have gone onto the sweetcorn or pellets earlier like you said you were going to instead of maggots, i reckon you would have had a few more tench instead of the little Rudd n perch. I too suffer badly from depression so thanks for sharing your struggles, it helps when you realise your not alone.
Apart from a rod licence, what other permits or memberships do I need to fish on feeder cannal?
That's all.you need. It's the perfect free venue 😊🎣
I like your style
Your abit of an odd guy that's why I subscribed most of the videos on here and way to pro
Congrats on the twenty pound carp 👍
Well done .As anyone who fishes at AP knows the main carp lake can be a challenge so to catch a 20 is special 🎣🎣🎣🎣👍
Hi there, saw you in East street yesterday. I wanted to chat to you, but I was with my ex, and she had twisted her knee, so I had to support her. I would have liked to say how much I enjoy your videos.
Next time! 😊🎣👍
Not a carp man anymore, but well done, nice fish😊
No good asking me mate. I have no idea what I did yesterday. But I do remember the near catch of the big carp.
You sir are one incredible person! Thank you for gracing my UA-cam search for the lift fishing method... Not only the float you have most certainly lifted my mood... Thank you and don't ever stop what you do!!!!
I loved watching you talk about mental health issues more than watching you fish! What an inspiration. You have a new subscriber and I wish you all the best. What a gent
Steve, you are one of the nicest guys I have come across on the internet / videos / vlogs etc., and I am sure you are in the real world too. Keep safe, and be yourself. I wish you all the luck and happiness in the world, and a long and fruitful life. You really deserve true contentment and peace. The natural world is a wonderful starting place. Thank you. :0)
nice film aaron :D what species are in there?
Just watched your video at Bathurst basin and then the one on pumkinseeds. Just a note to say that I used to catch those in Bathurst basin, not fished there for twenty years but maybe there still in there somewhere.
Perhaps bring a poncho next time.
Good to see you back and looking well steve.
