Aau killed the competition in local gyms. The best players aren’t there, they’re waiting on aau practice or games that weekend , there are 100’s of camps. Back then way fewer teams. In the day the best hoopers were in the local gyms . Nowadays not so much, he may be there just working out . I agree with the negative talk on the game as far as complaints, those were always there. I also agree with how people digest the game & the many ways you can find out what happened during the games without actually watching . The game is everywhere thereby killing the exclusivity of regular season games.

God bless, I grew up playing basketball, but i switched to football cuz its more entertaining to me now. Nba basketball it does look like they not playing defense and also tooooo many foul calls. That harden stuff and ticky tack fouls is lame.

The reasons viewership is down are pretty straightforward, but they are the NBA's own doing so they won't get fixed soon. Negative Nancys as you spoke to- Inside the NBA and all the other pundits the NBA lets use game footage to bash the game. Higher and higher + more complicated pay walls (I cant figure out how to watch my home team). And the scourge of sports gambling. The fact that illegal streams are so huge even with the constant bashing, 3 point madness etc means people still want to watch. They just can't. Stream the broadcasts for free with ads and viewership will skyrocket

Dude just 6 years ago or so when Michael Porter Jr was at Mizzou before he blow up his lower back, he showed up at the rec center with unlaced shoes and he was just so athletic, fast and jumping out of the gym, head over the rim and everything and he maybe missed one or two shots out of 40-50 shots! He obviously lost a lot of his athleticism but even in his prime he was not as athletic as a lot of all stars that are known for their athleticism, the pace alone is too damn fast when you see it in person so I know what you mean where over consuming highlights reels on social media killed the excitement of the game and the insane athletic ability these players have!

I think it has to do with a number of things. Attention span - 2.5 hours in today’s world is a LONG time. I also think that a large number of people illegally stream sports now which don’t translate to viewership.

Ummm .... nah. I don't like watching 90+ threes in a 48 minute game, or the last 30 games of an 82 game season. I just don't care, and neither do the players. The All-Star game is worse than a joke not because we don't appreciate how good the players are but because the players don't appreciate the fans. 98% of the players are narcissistic, out of touch jerks who complain on literally almost ever play. Don't get me started on the sports media, it's even worse.
