This got me to check out the 🫛, nice vibes
It’s a lot of coins for something that doesn’t even cover your arms.
Otillo is over priced terrible directed races in the US. Austin was terrible. You got little landscape flags at random places to direct runs. There’s race organizers running around trying to get photo and video to market the race. Too worried about making it look great (the videos make it look amazing) and then you pay $250 to get lost on course and have athletes asking each other if we missed a turn about 10 times in a race.
Thank you for the info, doing my first swimrun next year, thinking of shoes, what was the verdict on the Adidas Terrex Agravic Speed Ultras? Did you end up trying them for swimruns?
@@paulstocker6242 we tested them in our Swimrun practices but ended up not racing in them because the events we had had some very technical sections that made us a little weary of the stack height of the ultras. That being said, they worked great in practice (drained well, grip level was optimal, etc.) and we would recommend them for flatter, less technical courses…or make sure you practice in them enough to feel confident wearing them on technical terrain.
Nice video! Do you know if I can use a swimskin to do Otillorace? Thank you
You will want some neoprene for floatation and warmth for swimrun. Where are you going to be racing? Check out the Ark Vigg suit for a lightweight swimrun suit.
If you go down The shops in slippers and pyjamas You'll know Hunter werlly boots aren't just for farmers A symbol of status that you can wear made like a bin bag full of pubic hair You don't dress like a dentist when you drive a boat But I wears it like it's a normal coat At the football when little Timmy's in goal other parents look at me like I'm as asshole Dryrobe, Dryrobe If you don't like the look you are a Dryrobophob Dryrobe, Dryrobe But it won't fit in my fucking wardrobe I was wearing my wetsuit in the local swimming pool Saw a Dryrobe so I threw away my cagoule Villages towns parks across the land Whose coats that jacket and what's the brand It's a Dryrobe And I wears it with pride on the school run not at the seaside I don't care As you stand and stare 'Cause I know you got yours at Mountain Wearhouse Dryrobe, Dryrobe If you don't like the look you are a Dryrobophob Dryrobe, Dryrobe But it won't fit in my fucking wardrobe Like Harry Potter's Invisibility cloak But you can still see me and I look fucking dope Like Batman with a Batman cape I'm walking my dog smoking my vape Naked underneath wore it straight out the shower And other dog walkers are scared of its power Made for beaches of after swimming in lakes I wears mine down Parsons when I'm inviting cakes I like getting noticed I'm living life large So I bought another Dryrobe in camouflage Almost did a jizz when I took it out the box And it looks even better with a fresh pair of Crocs Went down Jackson Bay just to watch the tide Saw you wearing d Dryrobe snide Was it Begatta or Two Bare Feet It looked pretty good but it will never beat my Dryrobe, Dryrobe If you don't like the look you are a Dryrobophob Dryrobe, Dryrobe But it won't fit in my fucking wardrobe
"Most excellent" episode 🙂
We have needed it
Really fun! Love the commentary!

excited for austin!
See ya there Randy! Be sure to say hi.
you guys are the best!
TYSM! We couldn’t do it without your support.
Thanks boys
Of course! See ya out there.
Lisa and I are looking forward to seeing you guys there.
See you there Fred!

Your knot selection needs work.😂
You are knot wrong! 😂 Knots aren’t our strength.
Great episode.
Thanks Andrew. Did you get a pair of SurfEars yet?
Thanks for the great channel, and helpful info! I am curious is you all use Garmin watches and Strava, and how you record a swim/run. Thanks!
Cheers! Yeah we both use the Garmin Fenix series of watches and upload our Swimruns to Strava. While Garmin does have a native workout setting for Swimrun, we find that the autolap function doesn't work well and manually hitting the lap button to switch from swim to run and back is a huge PTA. As such, we usually record an entire Swimruns as either a run or an open water swim. This is also better for Strava so you don't end up posting 10-15 separate events since Strava can't seem to group everything together like Garmin Connect does.
@@lowtideboyz Yes, that is exactly what I was running into. Looks like I will be doing some "runs" across the lake! Thanks!
Cant wait for Austin! hope the good vibes carry over the pond for the year end crescendo.
See you in Austin! The vibes will be high 😃
still loving this after 3 years, the voice of Oscar will be ringing in our ears at the pig swim "take a f....g gel" ;-)
Was my team's first Swimrun. I appreciate ya'll's info on the swimruns. The TBF swimrun is now a must for my team. I'm a triathlete but now will participate in. Swimrun & triathlon. It's tough cuz there's not much out there. I am also interested in doing Orcas Island in the near future so I would like to get your take on that too. Ya'll did a great job and even though you beat us down, we like having y'all there. thanx guys
Glad you had a great time at the Folsom Swimrun! Orcas is an amazing swimrun that wouldn’t disappoint. See ya in Folsom next year.
Thanks for the video. Colorado just hosted a swim run event and although I did not enter, it has got me thinking about giving swim run a try.
Give it a shot! We are here to help.
Perhaps this has been asked/answered, but I can’t find it. Suggestions for someone that wears glasses? I have prescription goggles, but cannot run without my regular glasses. Thanks!!
We have gotten this question a few times. If you can use contacts that would be the best thing to do. If that isn’t an option we have heard of folks who put their glasses in a case and stuff into their wetsuit before heading on the swim. Then after the swim putting their glasses back on.
@@lowtideboyz That works, thanks! Time to practice!
question: super strong swimmer. competitive swimmer my whole life. i have a very strong pull. as soon as i put shoes on my shoulders feel it. I use a normal small pool buoy. will one of the swimrun specific ark buoys help this? I plan to change up my pull/paddle training in the pool to also target this... but just curious how much the ark buoy helps this. is this common? thanks Boyz!
@@randystarns4811 Yes! A bigger pull buoy should definitely help. A lot of competitive swimmers (former D1 college swimmers and the like) that do Swimrun all use bigger pull buoys to counteract the drag that swimming in shoes creates.
@@lowtideboyz thanks! relief to hear. with the Ark options, obviously the keel S is significantly bigger than a normal buoy. In your opinion, would this be a good place to start or shooting straight for the keel a better idea?
@@randystarns4811 I depends on your height/weight but at least go with a regular Keel or Keel+ if your average height and weight. I am 5’11”/165lbs and use a keel+.
@@lowtideboyz good to know. im 5'8 170. guess ill start the search for a keel. Thanks again!
Freaking great experience
Hi. Tried this and wondering how you avoid having the cord pull through the buoy? Followed your instructions but seems my cord is going to eventually pull all the way out. I have a picture but not able to upload it here but hopefully you know what I mean. Thank you.
Do you mean you feel the cord will cut through the buoy? This can be common and you might want to reinforce the area with some high strength tape. We like the Gorilla Tape. Wrap that around once or twice and repoke the hole. Hope that helps.
Thanks guys ! Definitely need to try the VJ at some point. Thanks also for the good Instagram plan for the Terrex I bought a new pair ;-). I love my french made 🙂 Millet Intense trail running shoes and will certainly try them for NC.
Good stuff fellas
Thanks for the many tips! I thought nutrition wouldn't be an issue for me because of the short distances I can manage. But especially on hot days in a wetsuit I sweat a lot more than I thought, so I got cramps and felt sick. So these tips have come at just the right time!
Sounds like practicing with some more fueling even in the shorter races could be helpful! Thanks for the comment and see you out there!
My quads are still destroyed from the last run lol Great race review guys and great to meet you!!
That last run was a doozie!
are there any wide toe box swim run shoe recommendations?
The best place to start would be with the trail shoes that work for you. Altras have wider toe box and you might check out wide versions of shoes.
Any specific altras that are good in the water while that drain well when coming out?
@@shanadagnysiap Most of the Altras seem to be pretty safe from a swimrun pov.
Not sure why my first thought was to grab my power drill 🤣
The drill is too much power! 😂 screwdriver will work just fine.
Plus on Uto or Orno you can hope the local residents are still there with their hoses 😂
I have listened to your podcast for over a year and love it. My whole family enjoys Otillo racing, and last year in June my wife, two kids and I raced Uto. I never knew what you both looked like until today when I viewed the UA-cam version. It is great to finally match a face to a voice. It is funny how you develop a concept of what someone looks like and then reality is different. Not a bad thing - just not what I expected. Keep up the great podcast!
😂 we have heard that before. Thanks for being a longtime listener and glad you have the bug as well! Hope to see you out there sometime soon.
Hi! I'm new to swimrun and from what I heard in this podcast I wondered if I could use a trisuit for a simrun race in warm waters. It's definitely very comfortable for running and the fabrics are also hydrophobic. Maybe more water is going to come in into the suit but, it's also true that in the races a "bib shirt" has to be worn over the wetsuit, which I guess isn't very hydrodynamic... Just to know what you think about it. Thank you!
Great question! A tri suit/swim skin is a good place to start especially if you don’t want to drop any extra money. We would recommend that you do get a pull buoy to help with the flotation and better body position in the water.
What’s water temp look like the last 2 years? Seems mixed on info. Odysseys says 60… online databases says average is 67 in November (with minimum at 64). I’ll be racing this year!
It is a great race and you will have a blast! We would guess water temps would be low to mid 60s. With the warmer air temps the swims will be very refreshing.
@@lowtideboyz love it. Pretty well tolerant to low 60s so the Vigg it is! Will y’all be there this year?
Fika-side chat
Great suggestion!
Another thought here. Wool socks also work great. I for one use Farm 2 Feet ones. Also I recommend a bucket big enough to actually stand in with shoes and socks and then go running. Or find a creek along the way
Good tips on both accounts! Stand in a creek then take off running and see how it feels. Perfect swimrun simulation.
Solid seo play.🎉
See you guys in Bellingham, great show as usual!
Thanks Dan! See you in Bellingham and be sure to say hi.
We are in our second day of Swimrun in Sardinia Italy. Discovering and enjoying, albeit with cold weather, these beautiful beaches. We are definitely not ready for an Otillo. Maybe next year!
Keep enjoying it and hope to see you out there soon!
We have this model. Super satisfied with it so far. Love how flexible it is at the legs and shoulders and that you can easily unzip it. Also the pockets as you say. You can easily put your gear away while you run.
Totally agree!
Not many people outside of Austin Texas know about this psychedelic band 😅😂
I am an ultra runner so running is a lock for me. I am comfortable in the water and have spent hundreds of hours free diving, but I am not a competitive swimmer. I am basically a beginner when it comes to freestyle/crawl swimming for distance. I've got over eight months until my race, how would you counsel someone in my position? Do you have videos you like for runners learning to swim for SwimRun?
Hi Chris! That's a great question. Our take on it so to just start swimming and be consistent over the eight months that you have before your race and get more specific in terms of race pace/distances/etc. as you get closer. If you feel like you need swim instruction, seek a local masters swim program or tri club that can help with technique. I wouldn't worry too much about using paddles and pull buoys until you've been swimming consistently for a few months. Better to build up slowly and work on your form/technique before doing anything Swimrun-specific. See you out there!
We got this last year, and for the Mediterranean, it's just perfect. In fact, it might even be too hot for the runs, after June and before September. Like the review says, it's a very capable Swimrun Gear.
Glad you had a good experience with the suit as well. A solid all arounder for sure.
GREAT episode! Thanks LTBz, Lars and Dominic❤ Lisa and Paul Martin
I wish all participants a great race! 🏃♀️🏊
Hey guys, I'll be taking part in my first Swim Run on the GC, Australia later this year. Will a standard pull buoy do the trick as there aren't really any larger buoys/swim run specific pull buoys available here yet? Cheers.
Great question. If you can’t find a mondo pull buoy you can glue two standard ones together. That is how it used to be done before the big ones existed. Let us know how it goes!
you guys should make more swimrun videos than audio podcasts...I`d watch em...especially after my daily morning swimrun routine.
Thanks! Do as much video as we can. What videos do you want to see next?
Loved this episode 🙌🏻
