Ayres Sensory Integration Research, Then and Now
Welcome to the 2024 CLASI webinar series: ASI Research Wednesdays, led by Dr. Susanne Smith Roley and Dr. Zoe Mailloux, and supported by CLASI and Southpaw Enterprises. This year's theme, "Research Then and Now," examines the evolution and application of sensory integration research, inspired by Dr. Ayres.
In this session, Dr. Rosanne Schaaf and Dr. Kelly Auld-Wright share their expertise, discussing how clinical practice can inform research. Key topics include steps for conducting research, such as formulating questions, designing studies, and analyzing data. The session also introduces a new scholarship by the American Occupational Therapy Foundation to support emerging scientists in sensory integration, honoring Dr. Ayres' legacy. This webinar offers valuable insights for clinicians and researchers alike.

If only there was a big pot of money to do a PhD.... Thank you for these great resources. I keep ruminating on that quote 'what is the child thinking now, what is the child feeling, now'. Happy birthday Dr Ayres!

This is great!! Oh my gosh! This is so inspiring bc I too struggle w obstacles related to undiagnosed failure to thrive when I was born. I remained under the growth chart for the first 2 yrs of life which is a recent discovery. It explained the shame that seemed to define me, and the scales of self doubt that has always incarcerated me. Tho I carefully communicate to others that it’s not an excuse for consequences behaviors (premature and disproportionate responses to subtle triggers/often self imposed) It is still a very hard road, but I’m accomplishing much more bc less “self talk” to distract and disable me. Clinical and business development tasks are so much more objective. But everything still takes me so much time. Written communication takes so long but now there are apps to lead me to others to do what I’m very slow at. I’m setting up only the 2nd CORF in LA w a completely revolutionary approach(outpatient in every natural setting ppl w CC/D’s funxtion in to find every obstacle.. analysis of all 8 sensory systems and search for hidden NEG. Coping Habits. Figure out what sensory experiences reach a threshold intense enough to counter triggers that led to persistent CC/D’s. This is same for all ages. Newborns (and parents) to aging. I bleed Innovation. I see the invisible primal dynamics- probs d/t stress and consequences, and SI related solutions. It is only ever SI at the core. but anyway I severely lack the rote exec.functioning (and ocular/head mvmt coordination and verbal/written sequencing). It just helps to learn that Dr Ayers also had limitations. Holy cow. Thanks for sharing your fun reflecting conversation. Ps.... Do you all know where Lorna Jean King is? 27 yrs ago I was accepted to her SI program tho I wasn’t able to go. She was in Arizona.

See... I don’t have extra time to edit my post. Thankfully I can employ ppl to edit my writings. I’m grateful to the dynamic of SI. And it’s methodical approach to tackle “unexplained obstacles” and points toward prescriptive solutions. Super cool. Sorry for long disjointed posts.

Similar here my friend. Didnt ever crawl and only walked just before 3. likely Hypoxic aschemic encepathology (Asphyxia during home birth.) Unwanted and severely neglected by basically self interested clueless parents who actually tried to discourage me when i tried to walk ! Its a high gravity wobbly world for us invisibly disabled... labelled as lazy but trying so much harder. Fatigued and confused, and yes, bleed innovation like you. Cheers, I hear you @@fiddlin4u1
