Marine Engine Compression Test - Volvo Penta 7.4
Here is a quick tutorial on how to do a compression test on a marine (or any) engine. In this video I will be doing a compression check on each cylinder of my 1999 Volvo Penta 7.4 Gi marine engine. This applies to pretty much any engine with slight variations. This should be done annually to check the health of your engine.
Tools Required:
- Spark Plug Socket (mine is a 5/8")
- Ratchet with extension
- Compression tester (available at any auto parts store)

Project Boat Seat Rebuild and Fiberglass work - Part 2
Переглядів 7 тис.5 років тому
Today I finished rebuilding the rear seat for the 1999 Chris Craft 240 Bowrider Project boat. The seat has been completely rebuilt and covered. I also grind out and repair a large area of fiberglass damage on the port side.
Cheap Boss Marine Speakers - Are they any good??
Переглядів 74 тис.5 років тому
I picked up 2 pairs of these Boss MR6W 180 watt marine speakers off amazon for $42.68 CAD (each pair). Paired with a Boss MR632UAB bluetooth stereo. Installed in the 1999 Chris Craft 240 Project Boat! Overall I'd say they sound pretty awesome for the price. 1999 Chris Craft 240 Bowrider (Seat Rebuild Part 1)
Переглядів 2,8 тис.5 років тому
A first look at the new project boat. This 1999 Chris Craft 240 Bowrider is in need of some TLC. I start by rebuilding the rear seat with new plywood.
can you still hear the music pretty good when motor is running?
I actually got those for Christmas!!!
Are you able to remove the grill from those Boss speakers?
Best video I have found for compression testing. Thank you
do they work good I had some fussion ones eehh so so they worked ok
You better getting a speaker that has a passive tweeter the only water ingres that can happen is from the back
You can get it w/ 4 for $100
Hi . Not enough power for 180watts speakers. 4 of them . 720 watts. You need amplifier for 700 watts 4 channels, 4 omp. I'm worried that your radio won't burn out. Best regards
Whats the Ip waterproof rating? I don't think its very good on these speakers
it wouldnt have a ipx rating worth rating
It's obviously hard to evaluate speakers through your existing speakers (and the recorder's mic), so we just have to kind of go on what the reviewer SAYS about the sound quality. This has helped. Thanks.
Putting on my John boat boat looks nice brother
Did it come with speakers wire
No
Has no tweeters. I read they were 2 way, but its only has a tweeter decoy in the center. The speakers this guy removed may be spent, but they were better.
Nice 👍
You mentioned full throttle but I didn't see you crank down the throttle before testing the first one. Did I miss that or do I have this wrong?
Fill your low spots first. Cut small pieces and dry fit them in. Gradually cut them bigger so they fill the hole from inside out and to the edges.
Good video but you pronounce “Boss” speakers as “B-O-S”
No.
You have to remove all spark plugs, not one at the time.
Why would you have to remove all the spark plugs?
Wish you hadn't picked the one sing on Earth that has zero bass.
Did you put the little enclosure on them?
Amazon £30 or £50 don't know bcs I leave in UK
Thanks ! Mine just arrived....can't wait to install !
How are they?
Hot or cold makes no difference. I’ve done both on the same motor. Made no difference. Throttle position also made little difference but did change some. Thanks for the video
What is the hole cut out
they look like cup holders?
would probably sound better if you played normal music,,,,lol
Bro, are you in a boat?
It is a marine speaker review so... yeah
Serious question. I just did my compression test and I took out all spark plugs first, before I started testing each cylinder. Which way is correct?
Fairly certain that all spark plugs come out first.
I can't see how removing all the spark plugs would make a difference with a compression test. I could see less stress on components like the starter. Maybe someone can comment on what the difference would be?
People also say to open the throttle all the way. In my experience, both steps give a slightly higher reading. Warm engine raises the value also, oil on cylinders help reduce blow by.
Good video man, thank you!
Helpful Video - I am getting a boat with the exact same motor. Do you have a link to that service manual? Thanks
Sorry for the really late reply. I'm not sure if there is a free version of the manual but there are lots of paid ones out there. I'm sure if you look hard you'll find a free one somewhere.
How much did you pay for this ?
Great review
Thanks, I’ll be getting a set for my atv. I’ll definitely have to put silicone around it cause I’m always handle bar deep
How did it turn out
dont buy boss marine speakers. they are completely not water resistant. I have bought one for my zodiac rib. In less then one year the magnets inside the speakers got loose.. So conclusion boss uses non water resistant glue in their product they claim to be produced for marine and add up a "marine" price.. a wast of consumers money.
ya if you put $40 speakers in a zodiac I wouldn't expect them to last... For a boat like that you really need a good quality sealed speaker. I will provide an update after a year or so to see how these hold up. Overall I don't think you can do much better in that price range but if you know of something better please share. Maybe I can try them out!
DIY Boating in The Netherlands they charge 115€ for this speaker. That is about 125$ so the you expect quality especially when they claim its marine grade and water and weather resistant. Never any boss products for me😬crap stuff not marine worth.
I have bought some quality glue to repair the boss speakers. Will post a video on that. I believe they used wrong glue for the magnets
@@wiedjai I guess they are a lot cheaper in North America. Only $42 CAD for a set and even less in the US.
DIY Boating hi mate, I’ve got a zodiac and I’m looking for speakers - what are waterproof?
