Only the best and rarest Broadway videos... (until a late star's far too protective spouse gets angry again...) If you only knew what I HAVEN'T posted yet... Let me know what you're looking for (especially from the true camcorder days - early 80s through late 90s) and, who knows, I might have it in one form or another...
The Music Man - Broadway Revival 2000 - Act 2
Here's act 2 of the Stroman The Music Man - starring that (truly!) "by-God spellbinder," Craig Bierko, and the great Rebecca Luker. That's Max Casella as Marcellus and Paul Benedict as Mayor Shinn.

The Music Man - Broadway Revival 2000 - Act 1
Переглядів 12 тис.3 роки тому
With a new Broadway revival hitting Broadway soon - here is act 1 of the Susan Stroman directed/choreographed 2000 revival starring the WAY underappreciated Craig Bierko and the late, great Rebecca Luker. Bierko, to me, was near perfect in the role when I saw it (whether mimicking Preston, as some have claimed, or not) - totally engaging and winning on stage. With recognizable character actors ...

What a find, huh? Chuck Wagner in the role he understudied on Broadway, with Douglas Sills taking over the Wagner Broadway role for the tour... 1988-89... Fun to see! (Oh - Ray Gill and the terrific Mary Gordon Murray are the Baker/Baker's Wife in their brief scene...)

WHY oh why are americans obsessed with SINGING everything?? UGH! Nul! Take a French movie and destroy it putting nonsense annoying songs galore. UGH!
I like the transposition, and the increased tempo is rivetting, even if I prefer my Epiphany on the slower side. The orchestra sounds terrific and aggressive, and Denis fluctuates between psychotic and soaring with ease and unpredictability. This might not be my favorite version, but I quite like it nonetheless. I would actually quite like to have heard a studio recording of this
way too much vibrato. it's almost sheepish
Joanna from Sweeney Todd as The Witch? The perfect depiction of a storybook witch I've seen.
Just memorizing these incredible lyrics is a feat in itself, let alone performing the song at this level. Really wonderful.
I have no one to talk to about this 💔
Peter Marshall, god bless him, sings "And odd what we forget" to "As we walked on the sand" in one breath.
Hey, great video! Just wanted to ask if I could use this in my doc on someone who performed in this production.
Elaine Paige was SPECTACULAR in this role. Brava.
One of the most haunting and gorgeous voices in all of Broadway history. It’s unfair that AIDS had to silence that beautiful voice and that of many others. Who knows what else he could have achieved had he not died so young?
I thought that was Marcia Mitzman. She is always sensational.
I actually went to this try-out at the National Theater in 1996 in DC. Davis Gaines was awesome also as The Man. We waited at the stage door after and got Davis's autograph. It was a good show, but didn't even transfer up to Broadway. Bummer.
His voice is totally wrong for a leading man role. Wow. He needs to be playing character parts. His voice just cannot carry a song like this.
John is such a talent.
RIP Mr Marshall! It was a huge move back then for someone like him to take on this role - so thankful that this is out there for us to still enjoy!
Betsy Joslyn’s voice and characterization have such clarity.
Annie's voice is magic!
Bad film
R.I.P. angelic and darling, deeply missed Rebecca Luker. Craig Bierko is quite good !
George reprised this role in London at the Palladium Theatre. He was as lovely as he was talented. Humble, kind to everyone. There was so much love and laughter amongst cast and crew which filtered down from George and Denis Quilley who played Georges. They were a great team. RIP Denis ❤️
This was the first time anyone used drums in the opening - completely wrong and stupid - the entire point is that the salesmen and the writing make the train rhythm. Classic example of a director who doesn't trust the material to work as it always has. It didn't need Ms. Stroman's help. And sadly, every production since has used drums. Horrible.
Totally agree. A classic case of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Don't they trust audiences to appreciate the drum-free, original version as the composers intended it to be heard?
So this was the original choreography for all that jazz. Interesting. It’s really fantastic. I can see similarities with Cabaret both Choreography and aesthetically.
I traveled down to CD and saw this great production twice! I'd so love a full video or even a full audio version!
Absolutely adore Douglas Sills as the Dentist in the LSH 00s revival. Interesting to see him as Rapunzel's Prince.
Wow I loved this!
Thank you for posting! Do you happen to have any of Virginia Pulos as Anne on this tour? 🙏🏻
Craig Bierko did indeed sound like Robert Preston, and Max Casella sounded so much like Buddy Hackett that during intermission the night I saw it, people kept saying "They must have studied the movie." As you can see, it was a great production.
I heard that Lara Jill Miller played Amaryllis here. She and Christian Slater who played Winthrop made great chemistry. And now, SHE has the lisp, because, Y’know, Lisa…
A big sky distance toward heaven compared to recent mundane revival.

I’d have loved to have seen this live ❤️❤️
This is so much funnier when you realize Jodi Foster is a lesbian
I never saw this production but I remember friends who had. Thank you for posting this.
In a life full of beautiful, thrilling Broadway memories seeing this cast in this revival three times is one of my most cherished - ill never forget the sheer love on that stage - the ecstatic dance numbers - the exquisite Rebecca Luker piercing my heart with her glorious voice And that finale Never to be equaled All three times I saw it the sheer joy in the audience simply levitated the entire theatre and sent it soaring into the sky There are some things only possible in a Broadway theatre at the peak of its form and this production is a perfect example of the magic created by talent, artistry and the unique love shared between performers and audience.
Rip glynis johns ❤
7:50 was a funny joke 😂😂😂
love these bootlegs. Thank you so much! I saw this cast when I was 17 and Luker's performance is one of my top five ever performances on Broadway. MUSIC MAN is a really interesting show! So traditional on the surface but so inventive in so many ways. So much play on instrumentation, song puzzles, really utilizing men's voices, Americana, orchestration that originates from the story; it is thought provoking. Also, this revival was superior to the other. Such a perfect Stroman show.
Rita Rudner?!?!?! Had no idea she did musical theatre
I want to see Meg Bussert and Lara Jill Miller do Goodnight My Someone!
30:17 Make way for Eualie’s entrance lol 30:37 If the girls were outta tune it would be funnier. 33:13 KABOOM
This explains Betsy's comment about Gemignani REALLY quickening the tempo of the rap as the run went along. He's destroying her here, but she keeps up. I love her
The person who walked in front of the camera, I will find u
I love Chuck's rich voice as Cinderella's voice in contrast. i have to see Hello little girl
Who’s the women who plays Marian?
That's Miss Rebecca Luker.. may she rest in peace
I saw Mr. Curtis when he was on the tour in 85 or 86. Sixteen shows in a row he brought the house down every show, even with our conservative audiences.

His voice is sooo lovely 😍
Sure sounds like that gorgeous voice. Style and tempi different than the revival in 2011, which had input from Sondheim and Ron was much better.
