Those gates boards were real beauties. I have one in need of restoration. When working as new you can hear the superior tube/valve sound. In the 2022 era people are craving the silly jokes and levity on AM Radio. We live in a bitter time where AM Radio is needed and as luck would have it we now have wide bandwidth radios such as the Tecsun H-501x to truly show the superior nature of AM sound. AM Radio should be experiencing a rebirth.
Fast forward to 2022 and Radio Caroline has been given a former BBC frequency, thankyou BBC. This is great recognition that in so many ways the offshore stations brought the BBC into the 20th Century. As a Canadian I have followed the life of the offshore stations with interest. We have our own classic broadcasters from the same era the most famous being "The Big 8 CKLW" in Winsor Ontario which was listened to deep into the American Heartland. It is heartening to know that Radio Caroline, and the other offshore stations are so well remembered by the boomer generation.
Think that was the power steering pump chattering, changed it for a used one and all was quiet again. Use a long screwdriver as a stethoscope to narrow the rattling down. It was 4 years and 3 cars ago though!
found this www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=272381 "just in case anyone stumbles on this thread in the future, I'll put an update as it annoys me when people don't! The rattle got to the stage where it was embarrassing to drive the car, but it was still only rattling when the engine was cold, although taking longer (several miles) to quieten down. I've finally changed the power steering pump and can't believe how quiet the engine is now on idle, just a slight chirp from 'something' on the aux belt run. It was a used item from minty on the forum. I've got an alternator pulley tool on it's way, so hopefully that will shut it up - it's the last thing I was waiting for to replace the aux belt and tensioners etc. Although everything feels smooth, there is no evidence of this being done when the timing belt was changed, before I bought the car. Started to pull the old pump apart to be nosey and see if I can see what was wrong, suspect it is the bearing as there is no witness marks inside the pump. __________________ 2009 Volvo V70 D5 (205bhp) r-design 170,000 miles"
I from Peter in Sheffield Radio Caroline is very loud and clear in Sheffield in the daytime on 648KH even in the city centre on a little pocket radio and I can hear it on the Sheffield sopper tram and in lower wincobank and at the medowhall shopping centre next to the M1 motorway and at the bottom of the more in the new market very clear but not very good at night but it comes in like a local station in the daytime very good fantastic music great De jays and fantastic Jingles and fantastic programming too there is no better station than Caroline 648
Bring it back on AM from the boat. That"s what real Caroline fans want. The Ross Revenge is ready. It has been restored. It has a new antenna. WE ARE WAITING.
Please read the top comment. It seems the British Government & BBC have listened to you. Great when people power works and I send my greetings from Canada to you.
Radio Caroline is not just remembered for its long quequered history but all the presenters who have made it live on and become the legend it has and always will be
STILL prefer to take the trouble to log on to the internet and listen to Caroline than bother with anything on AM and FM ... far better range of music on Caroline than on any of the BBC and ILR stations!!
