Amen, Dorothy. That is why John the Baptist was beheaded, because he was telling Herod it is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife. In other words, John the Baptist was calling Herod to repent by no longer being married to his brother's wife. Herod was living in adultery. Whoever marries her who is put away is committing adultery.

Dorothy, I no longer pastor this church but I wanted to reply. The main issue at hand is this - is the second marriage an actual marriage in God's sight? The answer seems to be yes. In Jesus' interaction with the Samaritan woman, he stated this: 17 The woman answered him, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You are right in saying, ‘I have no husband’; 18 for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true.” (John 4:17-18) Jesus said that this woman had had five husbands (not one husband and four illegitimate ones). I would also point you to pages 107-109 this wonderful book on the permanence of marriage (www.ccwtoday.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/DR-book.pdf). Again, our main disagreement is on the nature of the second marriage. I believe that the second marriage is an actual marriage in God's sight. I understand you may disagree with me but wanted to give you my reasoning.
