Miniature painting, mostly warhammer 40K models. I like to make my own models in Blender and 3D print them. I'm trying to share what little knowledge i have on these subjects.

Yeah, so you have no money to buy fancy paints maybe? Well I do, yet i'm still going to paint this space-marine with these crappy paints because I can use brush control and understand the qualities of these s t a paints.

Merci pour ton commentaire.
wtf that looks so good, like really good
Not to be obtuse but do look at at how you’ve spelled “angels”
Yes, thank you for astutely noticing my poor attempt at humour.
cooool
I managed to get the hands and aword to all line up but then couldn't get the cape in past the shoulder pauldrons Tried removing pieces to reassemble in a different order and snapped half of it. And then trying to muscle thru it, it tuened out the cape wouldnt stay on. The sword sheath behind him was becoming severely bent and would push back on the cape, popping it and the backpack off befoee it could set Whole thing got launched in the bin
Keep it. Don't throw it in the bin. A little CA glue and resin putty will get it fixed. FW models are not easy. You need to dry fit your pieces before glueing to make sure they fit properly. It's an expensive model to throw away..
Maybe a good idea would be if you show how to model a Miniature! i see you enjoy painting them, and i am sure there are many people interested in seeing how this works, since your tutorial is really good i hope to see something in the future! thanks for your work !
Honestly, just been starting Blender and there is so many tutorials but yours is really really good! I hope you grow fast! good luck buddy
Thanks a lot for the comment. It's been just real difficult lately to find time to make more videos. But i'm definitely planning to make more.
Thanks a lot for these tutorials! I just installed blender and feel like I have a lot to play around with after going through your 3 tutorials. Really looking forward to see a fourth part if you find the time to make another one. For us miniature enthusiasts without any knowledge of sculpting this is a great start!
I did G Z 2, but it went up by 2 m instead of 0.002 m Edit: nevermind I fixed it, my units were all wrong
Good you fixed it :) In the tools sidebar -> Collection properties -> Units, set to Metric. Unit scale: 0.001. Also Set length to millimeters.
Wow You are really good in explaining things. I love your videos. Are you maybe giving some private lessons, I would love to but some :)?
Thanks bro.
Happy if I could help! Thank you for watching the vid.
I still don't know why blender doesn't let you save the Units to MM so it's default when you start the app? If there's a way I can't find it? This would help greatly one less thing to remember each time you want to start a project.
There is a way. Once you have changed it go to File/Defaults/Startup File and it should be saved.
I did notice you didn't have CUDA or OpenCL activated if your system supports it you will get a lot more performance out of blender since the GPU will do a lot of the work I have a GTX 1080ti hybrid GPU and a new I7 CPU that works really well with blender now I just need to remember how to use blender LOL 😂😆 it's like learning a new language
I don't even have or need a graphics card. Just a hybrid CPU. Trying to keep things minimal without having to rely on expensive gear. It's just triangles after all. I figure If my computer has a hard time rendering the mesh, there must be a problem with my design.
Your having just as much fun trying to remember how to use blender as I am trying to learn it! I wish someone would create software that's focus is on 3D printing only to eliminate all the extras that we will never need! Using/learning Blender is like dumping a million marbles in a pool and trying to find a few dozen specifically. I find myself going back to various YT videos just to remember how to change something because certain settings can't be saved like the scale I can't find a way to keep it in Millimeters it always defaults to Meters? Why they didn't give a option to set this permanently along with other things I want a certain way when I open blender. Makes me want to send my new resin printer back "just kidding" I would pay for a "Blender for 3D printing" that has all the unessasary stuff stripped away and tools just for the hobby. BTW great videos thanks for the help I'm sure to watch your videos dozens of times, other YT videos they ramble on and I get antsy just wanting to learn.
Hi, Thanks for the comments. Blender can be used in hundreds of different workflows, from rigging, lighting and texturing, not just modeling. You'll end up using just a few desktop shortcuts after using Blender for a while and you will get used to the interface. Blender is known for having a very steep learning curve. You can use try Z-brush which is specifically for modeling, but it doesn't offer that fun little perk of being free as in beer. You can save your preferences (Millimeters, etc) using File>Defaults>Save Startup File and in Preferences>[Hamburger Menu, lower left]>Save preferences. Just remember to back those up from your Applications preferences folder, they will be crushed when you update the software.
i ordered my lion 5 months ago it arrived today... fuck ups ANYWAY one of my pieces looked weard and the assembly card rly is a LITTLE bad. since this stream helped me get his dumbass coat piece and his arm right i throw you a like. i am not even rly finished as i have no more glue left. his backpack was hard to get in as it would have been a bette idea to do the cape n pack before arms. the hands / swortd where disgusting aswell and that belt strap made me mad aswell. alpharius was rly kinda easy compared to this. the only thing left is his cinematic stand with the night lord, it aint much but its still another hour and a bit of glue. he is so bloody tall, i have him next to alpharius and jesus he is massiv.
Chuckled a few times. It actually inspired me to build something in blendr much more than any other tutorial I watched because you made it look so easy.
That's great to hear. Don't hesitate to ask if you hit any hurdles. The learning curve can seem steep, but getting the keyboard shortcuts early on really helps. Also, planning ahead with rough sketches can help conceptualize your project before jumping in Blender.
Wonder if it's worth putting the cape, fur and backpack in place before the shoulder pads
Nope, next time doing this model will be sub-assembly for sure. The inside of the cape is a pain to get painted once assembled so are the sides of the chest and thighs.
It's been a while since i assembled this, but if I remember correctly, there is a little tab on the cape that is inserted between the shoulder pad and neck that can be pressed quite easily. It may be better to stick the shoulder pads last. This will also allow you more space for painting the side of the ribcage.
@@ministudio7746 Mate, this is my 2nd Lion model.... I messed up the first by following FW instructions, but will put in the shoulderpads last this time
honestly i have just finished the main model and dear christ i had to cut a bit around the cape to make it fit with the pads i would say best is paint then do the cape before shoulders and then finish up. otherwise shit gets stuck or wont go in. <.< the instructions suck ass... honestly. i did alpharius last a few months ago and he was actually quite easy, even though i fucked the cinematic stadn up as it is fucked... my bad but the model is fine. and alphariuses instructions where non existent, yet it was better then what the lion got. i got lost in this mess alot plus as i said i think the way they want you to do it is kinda wrong.
@@gadrielvanorion9872 Yup, I fully agree the instructions were unhelpful. Though they (FW) probably would never suggest to paint in sub-assembly, which is definitely necessary for this model.
that is one awesome looking Lieutenant
Thanks a bunch!! I've added a Greenstuff tabard since filming this and i'll be painting him for the coming weeks.
@@ministudio7746 cool
I really like this painted version. I might do this myself. Great job.
Thanks ! It means a lot to me. Thank you for watching the video, it makes me immensely happy.
dude this is fantastic
Thanks so much !!
While scaling my cylinder it was rendered invisible, the center point is still there and I can manipulate it’s location but I just can’t see it. Did I miss something or is the answer right in front of me and I’m just not seeing it?
Depending on the mouse cursor position when you begin your transform, maybe the scale operation went too far, so your cylinder may be immense of very small and out of your view. Ideally, your mouse cursor should be closest to the objects' center point when you begin the operation. What are it's dimensions ? Did you by mischance touch another key while scaling your cylinder ? Tell me if you managed to get it working, otherwise we'll figure it out.
Looks great bud! Where in Canada are you based?
Thanks ! I'm lucky enough to be starting a second of one of these soon, this time 40k style. Waking The Lion ;) I'm in Montréal, Qc.

@@AuspexGaming Yes, I've checked out a few Dark angels BatReps on your channel a few months back when 9th was coming out. It's great ! Can't wait to get back to gaming....
Wow, this is looking really nice! Are you using GW paints/any chance of a colour pallet list? particularly for the armour
Thanks, it means a lot to me. Yes, I use only Citadel paints. I will update the description with a list of the paints used on this model. For the armour, it was mostly Abaddon Black to which i mixed a touch of Incubi darkness. Then I added Corax black with a touch of Vulcan green , then mixed dawnstone and administratum grey, blending to the highlights. I hope that clears things up. I am trying to be more vocal when i paint and describe what i do, but it's difficult to do three/four things at once ! Thanks again.
Video jumps a lot sadly buddy
Thanks for the heads up. I’ll try and figure out why. YT tells me connection is excellent. Will check camera settings again.
MiniStudi077-E amazing job all the same!
I regret not doing sub-assembly for this model. The cape should have been primed and painted separately and glued afterwards.
I just canned this model. Worked on it for two days, couldn't get the arms to line up, then one of them snapped when I tried to remove it for the 3rd time to reposition.
Yes, i also had problems with lining up the arms. I had to cut and file the wrists on the sword and chainsword portions. I was going to magnetize anyways, so I knew some work had to be done to get it to fit. I've put almost five hours just on the main body, so i'm not at all close to being done. The base is going to take forever. Have you gotten the arms to line up properly ? I would like to see your finished model !
MiniStudi077-E unfortunately when I tried to get the arms to line up the left forearms snapped off, popping the pauldron loose as well. When I tried to remove the arm to repair it, the upper arm where the pinhole is that attaches the pauldron to the shoulder cracked and crumbled. The model is unusable at this point, unfortunately.
@@BOLANAREDE321 Maybe try to contact Forge World with pictures ? Maybe you can get just that arm piece replaced ? Or in the worst case, try pinning what pieces you have remaining with wire and patch/remodel the gaps with green stuff/Milliput ? This is sad for such a great model. I'm sure you can find a creative solution.
as somebody who just finished base model holy fuck, the hands / sword, the belt strap, the FKING CAPE made me mad the hands have no clear picture to see how exactly you should line it up im a nooby yet im rly proud he looks borderline perfect. the belt strap was such an insane pain as it is small, its hard to keep on and its easily fuckable. the instruction make you walk into disaster with the cape i used an xacto to cut away at the piece that fits in to make it actually fit. and the backpack is a nightmare to get in as i had to do like 6 seperate attempt to make it work. infact after no lesss then 5 hours i was done ( multiple short pauses for the nerves and to get glue off my tools included) i ran out of glue after this, i JUST perfectly was able to make it to the end with my glue model didnt break and in total i think im good, the cinematic stand it next, though only once i got some more glue
