Alguien puede traducir a español ?
I saw this in around '76 at the age of 8 - Thanks to the chanting of "Ubu Ubu Ubu" 45:05 I was able to remember what it was called and I have seen many productions of the play since. Every production is different and strange and glorious. Seeing where it started for me is fantastic... I love the "effortless sponteneity" and the "haphazard staging" that only come from talent, expertise, funding and hard work.
This is peak pleasense. You can’t get more Donald Pleasense than this.
It's been a while since I last watched this. Surprised at just how widespread blackface is / was in these traditions. Has it all been cancelled now ? And so much fire - so central to midwinter rituals. Has it all been doused by health and safety now ?
thank you, what a treat to see/hear this. Do any know when it was made?
I would like clarity on who 'the Celts' were. Isn't that term a catch-all for various disparate settling tribes from different cultures, rather than one definable, homogenous group?
Very good to see our true selves
BuThanks for PuPosting this!
What - Alfred Jarry has only 7700 youtube hits in four years? Apparently he's still ahead of his time...
England don’t have a national dress like other countries
Black face paint really
The guy with the Irish shirt is he on this planet
Love the unthanks but Lewes is ibrox in disguise
Merdre aux Anglois !
How good is this
Love The Unthanks, but horrified by their unquestioning acceptance of arguments supporting the use of 'blackface'.
Have you actually asked any black people if they are 'horrified'? Or have you taken it upon yourself to be outraged on their behalf?
Some of those Lewes costumes were doomed to be cancelled soon afterwards.
I remember seeing the Unthanks play at the Chequer Mead Art Centre in East Grinstead, in December 2009. It was the last night of their tour; they were a bit late onto stage...it was the last date of their tour, and they had gotton a bit sh*tfaced during the day! Ha...! Good for them; it was still an awesome and very moving show! It's great that there are still people out there, like these girls, keeping old traditions alive and in our consciousness. Our past matters as much as our present and future. 👍
Is that Frank Findlay as Captain Manure?
So interesting. I do hope these customs continue and survive.
I enjoyed this, and I came because I love the Unthanks. There was a time when people were closer to awareness of other dimensions. I hate tradition though, it's like being bear hugged, by the crowd.
Most excellent. Donald looked like he was channeling Milligan, Hancock and perhaps most surprisingly Saville. Now I know where Cardiacs got the aesthetic.
Which dipshit bothered to come all the way here to search out an old BBC production of an antic literary masterpiece, watched it through, and then took the trouble to give it a thumbs down?? Cretin. Your children hate you.
Donald and Melania
Donald and Melania aren't nearly so considerate or so charming.
No, more like Biden and Jill :-)
Were there any other records apart from this one ?
I hope so, but I'm not sure either? There was a kids show called 'Get Fresh', which one episode had Stephen Kendall-Lane on as a guest. But I have yet to see it myself.
I've been looking for a copy of this for decades.
By my green candle, it's Matthew from Desmond's.

Sorry to comment again, but I do keep coming back to this. I emailed my father about it (as it was his cassette tape). He replied:- I'm glad you found the old ghost hunter tape - you used to want it played all the time - even in the car!
Thank you so much for uploading this rare classic. It takes me back to a moment in time when I was a kid, as my parents had it on cassette tape back then. It was Christmas sometime in the '80s, and as I came downstairs from playing with my new toys, I found my family and some relations, all listening to it with drinks in hand. They all made ghostly howling sounds every time I entered the room, to try and scare me.👻
I have had this on cassette since 1985. I was a security guard at the time, working in a Victorian period factory in Lewisham. And I used to look forward to working the night shift as I used to listen to this on my walk man as I did my rounds. I have tried to contact Mr kendall lane to ask him about this program. But so far I've been unsuccessful. I did make a delivery once to eyhorne manor in hollingborne.
@@markwallace4625 Fantastic! I would find it pretty scary to do that. Don't suppose you had a Proton Pack at the ready? 1985, is that the year this came out as I never heard it on the radio? As this seems so rare, if my father didn't own it on cassette, I don't think I would have ever known of it. I don't know anything about Stephen Kendall-Lane, apart from this. It's a shame he didn't continue this Ghost Hunt series.
There's a very brief clip from another extract of Stephen's Ghost Hunt radio series (dated 25.12.1980), at 1 minute 14 seconds of this video:- ua-cam.com/video/0_JFxehnXZI/v-deo.html
Holy Merdre, Donald Pleasance
Like finding buried treasure.
He's great when he's not phoning it in in some dodgy B-movie.
@@natakamura1 You don't need to tell me, as far as I'm concerned he was The Man.

Do you know what that phrase means? I've searched. I love this version! Too bad the introduction by José Ferrer was cut...gives some background.
I hope this is the first thing aliens find of our society
I remember seeing this when I was too young to know what it was. I thought it was hilarious! Thanks so much for posting this.
