The only Pan Am branding today is on a railway that bought the name rights long ago. No relation to the airline. Also, re the description, the airline's name was Pan American Airways, not Airlines. Officially, Pan American World Airways.

I, recall when I worked in SRS in the mid 70's the private jet that crashed, Sam Pratt who was a fighter pilot in ww2. came from the ramp to the hangar and said that the fog was so bad that the birds are walking,

My father flew from Rome to Cairo with a stop in Athens on a TWA Connie. In 1950 a TWA Constellation crashed on take off from Cairo. There were many crashes at Shannon. Devils Island is not in Tasmania. It's in French Guinea; South America.

Two of the passengers were from my hometown, Bridgewater, Virginia. Mr & Mrs Galen Stinebaugh were members of my home church.

Pan Am never used Croydon airport which was totally inadequate for large 4-engine airliners like the Constellation. When Pan Am started service to London in January 1946, then using the Douglas DC-4, they initially used Hurn Airport, a former RAF base, at Bournemouth, about 100 miles southwest of London. Pan Am flights moved to what is now Heathrow Airport (then known as London Airport) a few months later when it opened in the spring of 1946. The former Hurn Airport is now known as Bournemouth Airport.

They also had a crash in 1954 in Shannon on a Connie. Many crashes in Shannon. Flew on a KLM Connie in 1960 from Milan to Amsterdam. Beautiful planes.

Flew on a KLM Constellation from Milan to Amsterdam in 1960 at night. It was empty. Beautiful plane. Had no idea they had so many crashes.

May I suggest that when a person is talking you do not add background music as it distracts fr0rm what they are saying and some people such as myself have difficulty in hearing them.

A very interesting film. I had begun working in the Regional Hospital laboratory some months before this crash. I remember taking blood from some of the survivors. I got to know slightly two of the Reiner girls - Martha and Hydessa (?) - as they were in ward 1B for several weeks. They gave me an Israeli newspaper - quite a rarity in the Ireland of 1960 - which I still have, an unusual souvenir of a very sad event.

13:44 there it is…. In black and white…… that’s why it “crashed” ….. as an aviation enthusiast for over 20yrs.. I KNOW planes don’t just crash, and boats don’t just “hit” icebergs…. When something like this happens .. i always say.. WHO or WHAT was on board ….. and it ALWAYS turns out to be someone very important or something very important… Great video btw 👏

The photo at 3:52 and 10:09 is of an early model standard Constellation, not the later Super Constellation involved in the accident which was about 17 feet longer, had rectangular windows replacing the round windows of the early models, and had a significantly more powerful version of the Wright 3350 engine.
