What a fantastic video! I've learned riding in Dubai in the desert and have done it for around five years on and off. After a bigger crash last year i sold my bike as i didnt feel it anymore and anyway needed cash. One year later now I miss it. I got bored of the same desert rides every weekend though and love the idea of exploring on 2 wheels. Do you have any tips how one could transition? First I'd need to get a license of course but the bigger bikes seem quite intimidating to me due to the weight compared to the MX bikes.

@@Max-bn8jg thank you for the comment. You can absolutely transition from mx bikes to bigger bikes, I spent many years on mx bikes racing motorcross and then transitioned, the smaller bikes are key to learning the skills to handle the big bikes. Just take it easy , sand is hard work on the big machines , can be done but not all that fun in my experience: get your licence and get out there !

Amazing video, I would love to move back to the Middle East. My brother works in Abu Dhabi and recently (last Christmas), I managed to pop over to visit doing a 5 day tour of Oman, from Abu Dhabi, Al Ain through to Muscat and then on down to Salaleh and back. Both of us on R1250GSA (I hired one), sadly all tarmac. Having been born in Bahrain and lived in the Middle East until i was 18 (returned to U.K.), ive got to say im longing to head back. I only realised my mid life crisis a couple of years ago (turning 45), decided to do my bike test. Now got the bug to venture off road, I commute daily from Portsmouth to Heathrow on an R1250GSA, (only 2 years in the saddle), however, I am toying with adding to the arsenal and buying a "World Raid", the sound it makes (with an Akra) and its capabilities which you seem to take in your stride make it a phenomenal bike. Keep living the dream and enjoying the great open outdoors of the U.A.E. 🤜🤛 I look forward to seeing more of your tours 👍 Damo

@@DBOLT666 hey Damo thanks for the message, I am from Brighton so I know your neck of the woods very well, have spent many a day on the M25 and blasting around the UK countryside, it’s funny because I often miss it too. You tour to Oman sounded ace, lots of miles and you had the perfect bike to do it on, I’m curious , did you rent the bike on a tourist visa ? I would like to do something similar with my dad when he visits but I was unsure if he would be able to get a bike. If you want to get off road , get the world raid , or something smaller, it will be easier to handle if your new to off roading. And also, don’t wait to get off road, your GS although big, will do it all. Check out the UK TET, although it’s not as wild as here the lanes will give you a taste of the off-road , and freedom that you don’t experience on the tarmac. You can take the TET all around the UK and wales. I recomend wales very much. But also Europe!! Keep me updated on your adventures mate and if you come back to the UAE for a visit let me know, we can take a ride out , stay safe mate

@@ActionJonesT7 A very good morning mate, thank you for taking the time to read my comment and reply 🙏🏻 A very small world indeed, Brighton is only a short blip away and often drive past (never actually stopped to look around). Some invaluable information there regarding the World Raid, I have been humming and haring for ages as to getting a lighter bike, albeit my brother is persistently trying to convince me to go a lot smaller in size but I've loved the Tenere since the day it was released. My first bike was a 2021 MT09, however at the time I was undecided between the 09 or the soon to be released Tenere. Kind of regret my decision really but for the commute to work the 09 served it purpose well on the M25 "car park" albeit she was a thirsty girl and really wanted to get up onto the back wheel (not confident enough for that yet) 😁 Regarding the bike hire in the UAE. Ive done it on two occasions. First time, I hired a bike it was done through Touratech in Dubai. My brother did pretty much all the donkey work, sorting deposits and dates ect. I think all they needed at the time was a copy of his Emirates ID, a copy of my Passport and a copy of my U.K. driving license. On that occasion we stayed in the U.A.E. visiting places like Jebal Jais (Ras Al-Khaimah), Jebel Yabir (Ras Al-Khaimah) Jebal Hafeet (Al Ain), touring pretty much through each Emirate from Fujairah, Al Ain back through to Baniyas Island so didn't need the Orange Card (I think it's called) to be able to travel to Oman. The second time I visited we'd hired the R1250GS through another company, who the manager "Jorge" (he used to manage Touratech) migrated from called "Trails & Dust Motorcycle Tours, Rental and Training in Dubai" The process was very similar (Emirates ID from my brother, copy of my U.K. passport, Driving License etc) however as we were travelling to Oman we needed to have the Orange Card as well. No extra cost but it was needed to present to the UAE/Omani customs officials, there was another form which was dual written in English and Arabic stating that the bike was a rental hence not having an Emirates ID for the vehicle, if that makes sense. We both had to get extra motorcycle insurance (insurance company was called "Al Ain Ahlia") to cover our riding in Oman which just so happens to be a small booth in the border post (neutral/central area). Only thing I will say was that my brother did have to keep on top of things as they had a tendancy to forget dates and there was a worry that a bike would not be available upon arrival. As it happens I ended up having Jorge's own GS as he'd just shipped a load of bikes to Salaleh (Airport) for another Adventure groups arrival. And as we all know a lot the U.A.E. nationals and their "Wasta" took priority over everyone else (if you know, you know). Apart from that it was an amazing trip, some long days in the saddle, 9 hours plus in 38-42°C heat which having acclimatized to U.K. temps was a bit of a shock but loved every minute of it. Some of the random police and military checkpoints got a little uncomfortable in Oman, didn't like the chin mounted GoPros (got asked to show video footage on several occasions to prove nothing sensitive had been recorded) and I also had my DJI Mini 3 confiscated upon entry to Oman 😬 Thankfully I was allowed to get it back when we got back to the border post (after several hours of waiting and showing officials receipts), however it nearly got confiscated again by the U.A.E. customs upon returning so DONT take a drone with you would be my advice 🤣 It was amazing though and to be able to do it with your dad would make some treasured memories 👍🏼 If you venture over to Oman, I highly recommend Jebal Akhdar, Jebal Shams, Wadi Bani Khalid, Ibri, Nizwa and definitely the coastal road down to Salaleh (Duqm). So much to see and do, the locals were so friendly and humbling as well. The rental side of things in all honesty seemed pretty straight forward, so I hope that gives you a little bit of an inclination of what to expect 👍🏼 I am hoping to get back over to the U.A.E. at some point in 2025 providing things don't escalate too much with Iran/Israel and Syria, otherwise my brother and I might look at a trip to the Himalayas instead (bit of a baptism of fire) as I'll have to get a bit more gravel, off road savey before taking on that challenge 🙈😁 If I do make it out I shall send you a message 👍🏼 As they say grab the bull by the horns if you get the chance 😁 Once again, really appreciate you taking the time to reply and wish the very best in managing to get your dad over and on two wheels. I look forward to seeing more of your escapades. Keep it rubber side down. Kindest regards and stay safe 🙏🏼 Damo

@@KamikazeJoeNYC hey buddy, thanks for the message, it’s a off road playground that’s for sure, the temps this time of year are the downsides, that day was 42 I think, the end of summer is coming now so will start cooling down in the next couple of weeks and during winter it’s clear skies , 25 degrees in the day and cool at night, perfect for moto camping ✌️
