Fish Talk-O's
United States
Приєднався 1 січ 2024
Welcome to Fish Talk-O's where the fish tell you what they want to eat but if they don't, I'll find out for you.
This channel is my fishing vlog documenting how I find and catch fish (currently in Southern Utah). I thoroughly enjoyed fishing my entire life and these videos will remind me of the fish I caught. Likewise, I will use the videos in the coming years to repeat what I did each month at different locations or improve on it. Hopefully my channel also helps you enjoy the sport of fishing while providing some entertainment.

Roostertail Saves The Day Using The Wrong Fishing Rod at Razor Ridge
I went to Razor Ridge hoping to find clear water and a chance to sight cast to some fish but instead found dingy water. On top of that, I brought my rod with 6 lb line instead of my 2 lb ultralight rod. Most of the tackle I bring is lightweight lures and sinkers.
Fortunately, I always bring a 1/6 oz Roostertail which caught my only fish this morning.
Fish don't eat trash so pick up any you find especially yours. Thanks.

Are Gulp Alive Floating Salmon Eggs Better Than Powerbait Trout Bait? | First Time Usage
Переглядів 67414 днів тому
I bought a jar of Gulp Alive Floating Salmon Eggs to see how it compares to fishing with the popular Powerbait Trout Bait (dough). Overall, I like this bait more than Powerbait as it quickly attracts the fish to bite and catching fish is a key reason people go fishing. I caught 2 fish in my first 2 casts at Sullivan Park followed by 2 more bites on the next 2 casts. Fish just wanted to eat it. ...
Adapting to Trout Fishing Conditions at Skyline Pond
Переглядів 26421 день тому
Fishing Skyline Pond today as I haven't been here in a month. A lot of people were at the pond today and the road noise was louder than usual. Both probably due to being around lunchtime. This didn't stop me from getting a lot of bites but I was only able to land a few trout. I didn't see anyone catching while I was there but it looks like they were bait soaking. The water was extremely dingy m...
Can the Slider Grub Catch Trout at Razor Ridge Park
Переглядів 28328 днів тому
Today, I wanted to see if the 1 inch Charlie Brewer Slider Grub was just as effective on stocked rainbow trout as it was with the bass and sunfish in our community ponds. In doing so, I also learned the pro's and con's of this bait compared to the typical trout baits like the Trout Magnet and spinnerbaits. I ordered the Slider Grub this past summer and have yet to find another brand that sells ...
Catching Trout While Still Learning to Fly Cast at Sullivan Park
Переглядів 117Місяць тому
Lately, I'm fishing at Sullivan Park and the Tawa Ponds a bit more because they have the open space I need to learn fly casting. I spent most of this day trying to figure out why the line won't shoot out of the guides when fly casting but that didn't prevent me from catching fish and having some fun. Just goes to show catching fish is more about understanding what triggers fish to bite than how...
My First Trout on a Traditional Fly Rod at Upper & Lower Tawa Ponds
Переглядів 318Місяць тому
Today, I caught my first fish using a traditional fly rod. It's not a spectacular trout but it's memorable to me as I accomplish another fishing achievement. As luck would have it, the trout were not in the middle of the ponds this day so they were well within the range of my very poor fly casting. This is also the first day I've caught trout using 3 different fishing rod types: Traditional Fly...
Sunrise Trout Fishing and Sick Bird at Sullivan Park
Переглядів 208Місяць тому
It was great watching the beautiful sunrise over Sullivan Park. Further, quickly catching some fish made getting up early and fishing in the cold worthwhile (39 degrees F). My plan was to try to catch trout on a balanced leech fly using each of my rod types (ultralight, traditional fly rod, Tenkara fly rod); however, the trout were telling me that worms taste better for breakfast. Unfortunately...
Jumping Trout Caught on Tenkara Rod at Sullivan Park
Переглядів 189Місяць тому
Today, I decided to fish the clear waters of Sullivan Park to see if the trout were close enough to sight cast to. I caught 4 trout in 40 minutes using my Tenkara rod. Since you don't reel in or strip line, I can target multiple fish in less time than with other rods plus it's so light and nimble (fragile) that even small trout are fun to catch with it. Fish don't eat trash so pick up any you f...
Caught a Nice Stock Trout at Grandpa's Pond in 20 minutes
Переглядів 277Місяць тому
If you've ever fished Grandpa's Pond, you would know that it's a challenging one to catch a fish. The pond was stocked with 510 trout a month ago so it's time for me to try my luck. This isn't a lot of fish considering Sullivan Park is .4 acres (not even 1 acre) but received 624 trout total while Grandpa's Pond is 15 acres or 37 times bigger! Anyhow, it has fish and I want to catch them. 😁 Fish...
Wheelchair and Child Friendly Fishing from Skyline Pond's Pier
Переглядів 1872 місяці тому
Nobody was at the pier as I was leaving from my earlier video so I made this short video to show "Joel's Rig" can catch trout from the pier where people in wheelchairs or young children can fish safely. My only concern is the table on the pier gets moved around by others so sometimes wheelchairs may not be able to reach the end of the pier. Hopefully some kind person there would move the table ...
"Joel's Rig" Catches Big Trout at Skyline Community Pond
Переглядів 2792 місяці тому
I was very excited to try my new rig to catch stocked trout at Skyline Park. My goal was to simplify using jigging soft plastics like Trout Magnet, Gulp Honey Worm, etc. especially when fish are inactive or picky. I caught more trout and got more strike on my rig than I did with the Roostertail or when I used Powerbait Trout Bait last time I was here. This may be my new go-to rig for picky trou...
Slow Trout Bite at Upper Tawa With a Bonus Small Bass
Переглядів 1022 місяці тому
I have now caught a late season bass at both Upper and Lower Tawa Pond. I wonder why these two ponds. At least this bass was bigger than the little 3" ones caught back in spring. While I was fishing Upper Tawa today, one person caught 2 trout on flies and another caught one bait soaking. There's fish to catch but be patient if you come here. Fish don't eat trash so pick up any you find especial...
Active Trout Bite at Sullivan Park's Aerated Pond
Переглядів 1912 місяці тому
It was a fun day catching trout with lures. One day I'll catch one on a traditional fly rod, but for now, I really just wanted to get out and catch some fish. Trout need a lot of oxygen in the water compared to bass to be active due to their high metabolism. With the two aerators going, the pond at Sullivan Park provides what trout need resulting in a better lure bite than all of our other pond...
Finicky Trout at Razor Ridge Park But Still Caught a Couple
Переглядів 762 місяці тому
The trout bite was slow today but I still caught a couple of rainbows by switching locations and baits. I want to downsize how much gear I bring but with limited time to fish, I never know what they want to eat and I have to change baits to adjust to the condition at the pond. Today was definitely one of those days. Fish don't eat trash so pick up any you find especially yours. Thanks. Please L...
Early Season Trout and Late Season Bass at Lower Tawa Pond
Переглядів 1192 місяці тому
Caught a couple of trout and probably my last bass until spring time at Lower Tawa Pond. The water was dingy with poor visibility. As the water gets colder, the sediment should fall making the water more clear. I don't think the trout bite is very aggressive yet. Sullivan Park, Grandpa's Pond and Razor Ridge are now stocked. Grandpa's Pond will be hard to catch any trout as the water is stained...

Turtles 🐢 hibernate when the water gets cold 🥶. They can breath through their skin when hibernating. Where is this place? I'm from Michigan.
Didn’t know that. That’s cool. I’m in St George, UT. Thanks for watching.
Another great day fishing for trout! The weather looks beautiful and comfortable! I went out yesterday and had a great time limiting, it was cold but worth it! I will post my video tomorrow! Fish on and tight lines y friend!
I’ll check it out. I’m a bit behind on watching videos. Hate it when I can’t just focus on fishing. lol
I've never thought of using that method when fishing powerbait, but will try it this year for sure. Thanks for the great video!
Thanks for watching.
Saved by the rooster tail
Those look great for use with a bobber
Agreed. I think young kids fishing our stocked community ponds would like them because of how fast the fish hit them and watching that bobber drop is always fun.
Presentation is the key. really doesn't matter what you use, if it's appealing to the trout they will take it!!!!
Yep. I’ve caught fish on bare jig heads before. Sometimes just the movement triggers them.
Catching up on your videos! Another fun video sir!!!
Glad you found my channel.
These parks you are fishing from are beautiful! Not many parks but we have many lakes where i live! Another fun video good sir!
Seems like lakes are more challenging than bank fishing. Can't wait to be able to haul my kayak elsewhere but at least there's 7 community ponds in St George. Thanks for watching my video.
@@FishTalk-Os I use to bank fish all the time, but what was killing it for me was how crowded it was getting and then seeing the boats and kayakers coming in with big healthy trout. I asked where did they get those?! All the kayakers said get yourself a kayak and hit the back, they places that are hard to get to from shore! Game changer! I still bank fish here and there especially when the wifey or the kids are with me!
I used to kayak fish the bay around Galveston, TX and loved being able to get into the shallows where the boats couldn't go. Like you said, it frees you from the crowds.
Checking out another video of yours since I found your channel earlier! Fish on!
Thanks for watching!
@@FishTalk-Os Of course man! I feel the best support are other youtubers! I have met some awesome people with channels and fish with some of them that are local to me. Soon I will be going on my first trip to Missouri to fish with another youtuber! But I love this community! You get your bad apple here and there but there are more cool people than bad.
That's awesome. Looking forward to seeing your video from Missouri.
I use the "bottom float" method for trout, and its absolute MONEY! I have 2 videos about that.
Cool. I’ve used a floating jig head on a Carolina rig in one of my videos and it worked well where other things didn’t. I’ll have to check out your videos.
I caught 12 yesterday at upper tawa
Nice. Were you using flies or spinning gear? I see a lot of fly folks doing well there.
@ i was using a carolina rig with a mice tail.
That's also a good rig for when the big brooders are released.
@ yeah i caught some pretty big ones but i released them i wish i could have fished yesterday because i remember you said they stock on the 6th
I always wondered if the fish are extra hungry on the day that they are stocked or if they are spooked and just hide.
Hi, I really enjoyed watching this video. Very good, I also love fishing and experiencing like you.❤❤❤❤
Glad you liked the video! I've enjoyed catching many different fish for as long as I remember.
@ya,I really love it and hope keep in touch bro
Use barbless hooks, will be less painful for you and the fish
Fully agree with you. I usually smash down the barbs; however, it's still dangerous for fish to be hooked deep in the gut. What I'm showing greatly minimizes the chance of this happening. I've seen several kids (and adults) hook trout where they can't even see the hook. Thanks for watching.
Happy new year The realistic feeling of fishing was conveyed. There are fishing spots like this in Japan, where I live, but I have never fished there. I enjoy fishing in rivers and irrigation canals. あけましておめでとうございます。釣りのリアルな臨場感が伝わりました。私の住む日本にもこのような釣り場がありますが、私はそこでは釣りをしたことがありません。川や用水路で釣りを楽しんでいます。
Happy New Year! There is 3 more hours before the new year where I am. The rivers close to me do not hold many fish so I fish lakes and ponds. Thanks for sharing a comment!
Skyline pond, Which State?
St George, Utah. Almost went there today but decided to go to Razor Ridge instead.
A Happy and Prosperous New Year Kuya Joel and to your family! Great vlog. More power to your YT Channel!
I'm just having fun doing my favorite thing. Hope you and your family have a Happy and Prosperous New Year too!
Nice catches man im gunna take a trip up there soon good to know the bite is alive.
Not as many people there early morning but did get a bit thicker around noon. Good luck on catching some nice trout.
@ good to know. Do you know the stocking schedule?
I wish I did because I always thought it would be cool to be there when they drop off the fish. Last stocking for the Tawa Ponds was Dec 23rd and they are now stocking every 2 weeks so I would guess around Jan 6th.
Merry Christmas Kuya Joel and to your family! Great vlog!
Merry Christmas Mavi!
@@FishTalk-OsThank you Kuya.
I'm glad u caught a trout I caught a big bass there 3 days ago and cooked him 😋
Cool to catch a fall time bass! Since Utah never stocks bass in these community ponds, I never keep any because I like fish to catch during the summer when the trout are dead and gone. I checked Utah's stocking reports which only shows 2002 to 2024 and Sullivan park was never stocked during this time. I'm not saying it's wrong to keep any to eat. I just like catching fish more than eating them. :)
Never seen anyone drop shot powerbait, it would work though. Thanks for posting. Shout out from Canada!
I kept calling it powerbait but it was Powerbait Honey Worms LOL. Normally I used Gulp Honey Worms which are biodegradable and catch more fish (IMO) but Berkley no longer sells them in the US, only in Europe. Good to see someone from the Great White North. Brr...
If you use the power eggs, always use 3 eggs up the shaft of the hook. One egg on/past the eye of the hook. You WILL gut hook your trout, but only larger trout will take it. I have never caught anything below 12 inches with 3 power eggs. Small fish can't swallow larger baits. (I keep what I catch)
Good to know since smaller than 12 inch isn't worth the time to clean and cook in the first place. What size hook are you using? I assume a simple straight shank hook.
@@FishTalk-Os Snelled hook size 2. Growing up, the fisherman I learned from were just other fisherman giving their own interpretation on what "Good advice" was. Some were valid, others were just superstitious nonsense. However, through trial and error, I slowly began to mold an understanding to what was effective. A saltwater trick I learned as well is that the Texas rig works great for flounder fishing, and not only for Bass.
Agree with you on the Texas rig for flounder as I've used it. There's a lot of advice there but you just have to test out what works best for you and your style of fishing and where you're fishing. Lots of lures and rigging can be used for multi-species. I've caught everything including offshore snapper on dead shrimp and lots of types of fish including a catfish using the Bomber Long A14. Thanks for sharing!
Back in the day before they build a park it was awesome fishing there not much people
I read that it was drained back in 2015 which probably didn't help the fishing. I think it would be a better pond for self-sustaining bass than stocked trout if they managed it right. Not sure if it grows here but back in Texas, they used to plant trees in the water (I think cedar or cypress) close to the bank so that bass had structure to spawn and ambush from. The park is mostly disc golf and walking trail now.
@@FishTalk-Os yeah because people threw in there pet koi and other things even a alligator
Seriously? That's insane. LOL
I’m amazed how big that pond is
Biggest body of water down here outside of Quail Creek & Sand Hollow but it's even harder to bank fish those.
Love that line spool holder
It's not completely my idea. The original one I found long ago at either Bass Pro Shops or Academy was sold specifically for fishing line but they stopped selling it. My wife was into beading at one time and that's how I found the Beadalon brand in Amazon. Unfortunately, you can't just buy one but that's okay since I have several spools of line for fishing different fish.
Fast action. Too bad about the dead fish
Wouldn't be so bad if we had turtles or something to eat it. During spring time a bald eagle at Upper Tawa would swoop down and eat dead or dying fish there. Great herons do the same at Sullivan but not during fall/winter.
Fun day. Hopefully Sullivan Park will produce
Just published that video last night. Thanks for watching.
Always like watching your videos, looks like a beautiful calm day.
Thank you. It was a nice day to be out. Other than the road noise, Skyline Pond's rugged terrain makes you forget you are still inside the city.
Some beautiful trout and a bonus bass. Nicely done. 👍🏻 Subbed! 😎
Thanks. Wish St George had bigger stocked trout but it's all fun for me.
Nic to see some trout. Interesting method. I use a size 16 treble and a hook disgorger so I don’t have any mortality except for the frying pan. If your Powerbait dries out just add a few drops of water and let it sit for a day and it will be like brand new
I've seen your videos where you use the disgorger but thought it worked because of the bigger fish you have up north. Some people told me not to use treble hooks for catch and release but I'll try it out since you've been using them. Thanks for the tip and the one for Powerbait!
Even better yet, buy a bottle of the Powerbait trout scent and put a couple drops of that.
Good to see the water clear up
Should have trout in the ponds soon. It's finally much cooler down here.
new sub good stuff
Thanks! Just watched your latest video. Looks like you enjoy trash as much as I do. LOL
What's a good time to go fishing at that pond every time I go i can't catch anything ???
If you go fishing right now for bass, the sweet spot is around 10am to 12pm unless a lot of people are already there and scare/caught the fish. Many people target the deep middle of the pond for bass and do catch fish but I like to focus next to the rocks or off the underwater ledge around 10 to 15 feet from the rocks as bass like to stay close to structure. I've seen them literally 3 to 5 feet from the rocks staring into the rocks waiting for a sunfish to come up only to be tricked by my lure instead. Using amber polarized sunglasses will also help you see the roaming bass. Fall trout season starting November will be different than summer time bass fishing as trout go all over the place and the pond will be well stocked. Hope this helps and thanks for the question!
@@FishTalk-Os thank you so much it helped a lot I went around 5-6 once the heat calmed down and I caught a nice 1 pound bass can't wait for trout season. whats a good bait to use for that pond once they stock trout?
Trout remember what caught them last times so you'll want a few lures. Most people use Powerbait dough or Gulp Magnum Eggs and gut hook the fish half the time (ok for catch and keep for your 2 fish limit at the pond). I like to rig a #8 to #4 hook on a drop shot rig when using dough baits to reduce the gut hooking a lot so long as I'm holding the rod. Here's my top 3 baits for spinning rods: 1/8 oz chartreuse Roostertail. Buy the Walmart 6 pack as it's the the cheapest per spinnerbait and the other colors work better sometimes. Slow jig a white (or pink) Trout Magnet with their 1/64 oz jig head on 4 to 6 lb line (2 lb for greater distance). If they don't bite, add a 1.5" weighted bobber 3 to 4 feet above the jig, cast far and slowly retrieve it back. Lastly, replace the Trout Magnet body with Gulp Earthworm (natural color in a jar) hooked twice through the middle to form a "U" and again under the weighted bobber but an even slower retrieve. Other alternatives to the earthworm: Powerbait Mice Tails chartreuse head/ orange body hooked only through the head but a bit pricey for what you get. The 1" white Gulp Grub used to be my go-to but they don't sell it anymore and the white Gulp Maggots aren't 1" like they claim it is but does catch trout unfortunately the sunfish love it too. The yellow Powerbait Honey Worms might work but I've only used the Gulp version which they no longer make. Sorry for the long reply again. Maybe I'll see you out there this season.
I’ve never seen a bass caught on a tenkara rod
Big bass eat bigger baits but smaller pond bass will occasionally go after a big juicy bug or anything that looks like it will fill their bellies. :)
Bro this pond is in my neiborhood, I have fished it for about 4 years now.
Cool. Nice having a pond close by to fish!
Can’t believe how you pull fish out of that mess
It’s fun tricking the bass to come up through the muck and hit a lure but usually it’s more misses than bites.
Nice ending Kuya, catching a big largemouth bass.
Thanks. I'll be glad to take you fishing if you are ever in town. Or maybe someday I'll be able to come over to see you and fish some of your waters. Take care!
Video is short and visually concise and not excessively long, excellent quality and calming
Thanks for the constructive feedback and support. Some of my videos are quite long because I’m torn between having a vlog of my fishing trips or editing them down for viewers. I don’t preplan what the video will be about but instead I just record what I do to catch fish given the current conditions.
I had no idea there were largemouth in there. Nice to see an endangered species too
I was really expecting to catch only green sunfish. Watching the released fish dart around in the crystal clear shallow water was really cool too.
I honestly wish we had more warm water fish in there I guess we try to protect those little endangered fish
I don't completely understand how the fisheries work here yet. DNR stocks trout during the fall/winter yet the community ponds aren't managed for bass in the spring/summer. Skyline pond was drained a couple of years ago and still has received no new bass. I would also like to see more warm water fish (even sunfish) in the rivers as it would be cool to wade the river more. The Santa Clara river is too shallow unless you go further north past Gunlock.
@@FishTalk-Os yeah just stocked rainbows in those pond they all die by summer time they don't really manage bass, the rivers have little endangered species they spend too much money and time in them might as well turn it into a sport fishery for large small and small mouth and trout in winter
Seems like they could section off the river upstream where the endangered species are reintroduced and stock rainbows downstream. Stock rainbows are sterile so no eggs or hatchlings will invade the endangered species section. At a DNR seminar, they said Sand Hollow has too many bass so their growth is stunted which is why they raised the limit. Why not relocate some 2 pounders into the community ponds especially Grandpa's Pond which is huge but short on fish. At least for now there's places to fish. It could be worse.
The hogs are there!
Shhh.... Nobody needs to know. :)
Great job catching one. That looked more like a cowpie than a pond
Thanks. I agree. I was intimidated when I first walked up as I hadn't used that lure before. Just watching that worm working the top of the grass was cool to see. Looks like you're north of me. Sub'd your site so I know what to expect whenever I fish on your side of the state.
That has to be one of the nicest parKs I have ever seen. The water.... is a little too stagnant though. Nice catches btw!
I like that park too. Nice open space for anyone fly fishing, lots of open grass areas to just chill and plenty of seats (and trash cans) around the pond. I wish they would run a couple of aerators/fountains in there like they have in Razor Ridge Park and Skyline Pond. Thanks for the comment!
Love the videos keep it up
Thanks. I have a new video for Sullivan Park coming soon.

Thanks for the comment. It’s sad to not see the trout now but they’ll be back in the fall. Going to check the other community ponds to see if any still have trout. Of course, I’ll share what I find.
