Painting a Dark Background in Watercolour - Pitcher Plants
My new tutorial details how I paint solid dark backgrounds, this method can also be applied to any solid coloured backgrounds as well.
The trick is to be well prepared before you start so that you can apply the thick layer swiftly, before areas start drying off. And also making sure that you have enough of your mixture ready so that you don't run out half way through.

@@kimcallan5795 I mixed-up French ultramarine blue, cadmium red deep and cadmium yellow pale (Winsor and Newton), and also a little water to make a creamy consistency that would cover the paper smoothly and evenly

I love your image of a fading peony; it's more engrossing than a "perfect" one.

Are you sure the first color you grabbed is quinacridone magenta? I tried my Daniel Smith quinacridone magenta as well as Windsor Newton and they’re not as bright pink as the one in your palate. The color you first applied looks more like opera pink.
Hi, yes it is Winsor and Newton quinacridone magenta. It possibly looks a little brighter on the video - but that is what it is 😊
