Thread Abuse! Creating a colorful inlay with sewing thread
Follow along as I create a container with a colorful sewing thread inlay to hold some of my tools.
There were a few mishaps along the way, not with the inlay, but with hollowing it all out. Nothing crazy, but it did take me longer than I planned on given all the ways I tried hollowing this thing out. It does give me some ideas for a drill press jig though, so be on the lookout for that coming up.

Product Review: Art and Craft Epoxy Resin from Ultra Clear Epoxy
Переглядів 108Місяць тому
I was contacted by Ultra Clear Epoxy to try their products and give an honest opinion. In a nutshell, I was quite pleased with the results. There were a few hiccups along the way, but that just seems to be standard for any project I do! The main issue I ran into was that the epoxy would separate from the vines while I was turning them. After closer inspection, this wasn't an issue with the epox...
ASMR - Wood Sanding on the Lathe

There's got to be at least one woodworker out there that not only enjoys sanding, but who finds the sound of sanding to be soothing. For those about to sand, I salute you!
Making a cake stand from pallet wood
Переглядів 1384 місяці тому
A challenge was recently issued by the Royal Order of Woodturners to make a cake stand. Given that I recently received several used wooden pallets, one of which was all oak, I thought I would see what I could make. I will admit, I wasn't expecting disassembling a pallet to be so challenging, but in hindsight I should have known better. In the end, all the blood, sweat, and tears that went into ...

Figured Maple Key/Change Bowl with BMW Emblem
Must be nice to be able to wheel that thing out side! Sweeping the shavings to the flower bed would be awesome! And seeing Sarge's thread abuse put to good application is awesome! How did the tailstock fail?
@tonyturnswood It is nice to be able to sweep the shavings to the flower beds! The e-clip on the tail stock quill popped off. It was the second time that day, and I just got fed up with repairing it. Although it didn't help that I misplaced the key for my jacob chuck and couldn't get it tight enough on the bit...
I do love that tool, and the idea to use shoe polish is brilliant!
It's definitely a great way to use up old product that would probably just end up in a landfill :)
Eric, it’s time for a tripod mounted camera. Your head mount camera makes me dizzy and feel like I’m drunk.
@lkp492 I can see how that view could do that. Especially when sped up. Unfortunately, none of the tripods I have go high enough for a stable version of that shot.
Youre a rockstar!
I got my game on!
Good stuff. Your so knotty
@@Ken.norwood2 You know it! I wooden have it any other way!
I'd feel weird to have gloves on and no shoes😂
@@kristopheragee5233 I always wear gloves when using a hand saw. Ever since I needed stitches from one project. I never even thought about shoes it was so hot!
great video.. love your cake stand brother!
Thanks! It was a lot of fun to make. So much fun I may have to make some more.
😂 ive had this problem soo many times
@WoodworkJarl I'd say to use a depth gage, but I used one here and you see where it got me!
super cool, love the colours!! just one question, its for my feeling a bit high, is it still stable?
@WoodworkJarl Believe it or not, it's actually very stable. The base is heavier than the post and top combined and wide enough to avoid all but the most extreme pressure.
It's still perfect. Just plug it with a different wood and say it was intentional
Can't wait to see this used
You and me both! :D
That's a great idea Brother! I was concerned about the exothermic reaction melting your coco... glad it worked out!
I was a little worried about it too, but figured then I'd just have melted chocolate blobs encased in resin, which might be just as interesting to look at! I do have to seal the large one though. Some of the chips were right on the edge, and so a few tiny spots aren't covered in resin. You really can't tell until you hold the piece and the chocolate starts to melt in your hand!
cool!! sometimes it looks like the wood isnt turning until you put the skew against it lol, thats prob because of the cam
I've always enjoyed those little optical illusions from rotational motion and camera frame rate. Perhaps I should experiment some more with rpms that are multiples of 60...
Stop!!!!! This is so dangerous 😅
Which part is dangerous? If it's that I went with the rotation of the bit, I recognize that. If it's because I'm using a trim router upside down, it's no more dangerous than a tabletop router. I respect my tools and am aware of the damage they could cause to my body and well-being.
Dude I love how you came back at the end of the video. That would have been me. I appreciate your video especially the end where you corrected yourself 👍👍👍👍
Thanks for that. I felt like I just kept making mistake after mistake on this one while I was videoing.
Doesnt matter if your hand is farther from the blade if youre routing in the wrong direction. The teeth would have grabbed the wood and dragged your hand into the blade. Note the direction the blade spins. You need to go against the direction it spins and not with it.
Looking back at the video, yes, I made some mistakes. The upside here (if there is one) is that I had the speed down and the handheld doesn't have the power that my larger Craftsman has. I've shot some pieces across the shop with that one when I wasn't paying attention.
💕 Promo`SM
Excellent idea!
Thanks! I get those from time to time... :D
Why??
Why, what? Why embed something? Why not? It was something I had not done before. Why BMW? It's what my father has. If it was something else, I would have chiseled the space for the emblem. I just lucked out that BMW is a circle. Why figured maple? It's the blank I had that would best match my parent's home. Why leave the comment "Why??" with no further clarification as to what you are questioning?
@@knottypleasures ITS SO POINTLESS I PUT THAT BADGE ON MY CAR YES BUT NOT MAKE A BOWL AND PUT THE EMBLEM IN IT LIKE WTF NO SENSE
@qaching It's no different than wearing the BMW logo on a hat or even a key fob. But in the end, it made my father smile, and he proudly uses it to hold the keys to his M2. So what difference does it make if it "makes sense" or not?
@@knottypleasures I WANT TO SMASH IT INTO BITS
Life is amazing. After I contacted you, I found the Hartville site and (like you) I ordered two to have to spare. Thanks for the response. I don't often make comments on UA-cam.
I'm glad you were able to get the spare parts! Happy turning!
I have the same Sorby spiraling tool. The post bolt that holds the wheel is deformed and flattened on one side. Do you know how to get a replacement part. I tried contacting the Sorby website and have not gotten a reply.
Believe it or not, I lost my screw not long after I made this video. I guess I truly did have a screw loose... I was able to get a response by emailing them and found where I could get the replacement part in the US. They sell their spare parts to Hartville Hardware in Ohio. I bought two so I'd have a spare. The direct link is: www.hartvillehardware.com/product/sku-1219673/turning-tools-and-lathes
I CAN DIG IT!
Uh, dooood? THATS FRIGGING AWESOME!
Thanks man. I really need to make a few more of these!
Totally counts!
We did this in my engineering course in high school because we didn't have any other way to sand except this and sand paper
Didn't know you could do knurling in wood. Excellent
Wheeeeeee! Awesome!
Big like!Felicitări! Great video 👍👍👍

Nice work wood!!!1 Can buy? How for add esbestos??/? :^)
Thanks, I'm glad you like it! Unfortunately, this is already spoken for. I have some others still available on my website if you're interested. knottypleasures.com/shop/
Bugger... it is a good looking funnel though 🤪 I am surprised at how well it was going with only a skew though, never thought it would do that well. Keep on turning. Cheers, Bluey 👍
Thanks! I was a little surprised myself, especially given that it's and end piece of hackberry that was getting ready to rot. I've salvaged it by pairing it with a fence post to make a mushroom for our garden and will be finishing that this weekend.
