Frolicking Canadian Geese on the Frozen Bowne Park Pond
Interesting to see a large population of Canadian Geese on a January day. Perhaps, Bowne Park provides a favorable habit, given its plentiful access to water, food, and shelter and the mild winters so far. The geese stood on the ice just fine, while others slip & slide a bit. Some like to take a swim on water.

Bowne Park is located in the gorgeous neighborhood of Broadway-Flushing or North Flushing. The park consists of a kettle pond, bocce court, basketball court & playground. The park was renovated in recent years with the playground in 2017 and the remaining attractions in 2023. This is a great area to drive and park your car or take a walk. You can also travel via buses with the Q16 being the closest route. Either Q16 bus route via Utopia Pkwy or Francis Lewis Blvd passes by Bowne Park on 29 Av.

nice vid, but, well, check your figures about height, width, etc.
We have mostly lived in Westchester most of our lives. I grew up in Hartsdale and area around White Plains too Later my wife and I also lived in Croton On Hudson and now mostly in Cortland Manor and Peekskill. It is like the area very scenic, close to the Hudson River, and NYC, too. 😊
There is a very good story on the original building of the dam. There was a village built with all the immigrants that were used to build the dam, very harsh living for the immigrants that worked on the dam.
Yeah. After 9/11, both Kensico and Croton Dams were forbidden to road traffic for security reasons. I used to traverse Kensico Dam regularly in the early 1980s.
Very informative video, and it is nice to see what the neighborhood looks like in the bayside area. It is also good to see that you’re active doing something!
Looks so pretty makes me want to move there.
It took you this long to upload ?
This was extra footage I had stored for a while. I didn't have plans to upload older trips until recently.
I was there in April 2022. I took the ferry ⛴ from New London Ct. to Orient Point NY. The Montauk Lighthouse is my favorite part of Montauk.
Cool! Unfortunately, I wasn't able to go on this trip. Maybe in a few years, I will go back there for a visit.
I discovered the Croton Dam exists just a few years ago when someone posted pix on Instagram.
I saw many pictures or videos about it. But going there in-person is whole different experience.
Native Americans consider a place where 2 rivers meet to be Sacred Ground! Those 3 rivers are amazing! IMHO! 💛🖤💛🖤💛Pittsburgh was built by many immigrants and STRONG UNIONS! United Steel Workers Union, United Mine Workers Union and American Federation of Teachers Union AFL-CIO! 🤗🥰🤗
Wow! Great to know!
@DennisPharmD Check out the Oakland part of Pgh! Lots of great colleges, I Universities and hospitals ! The Salk Vacine and the very first Liver transplants in the world were done at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center!
Marylander here! MD born , Pittsburgh suburb raised in the 1960/70's! Pittsburgh is definitely "Some Place SPECIAL! " 🤗🥰🤗💛🖤💛🖤🖤GO STEELERS ,PENGUINS and PIRATES! 🏈🏒⚾️
beautiful place
Thank you for your time.
My pleasure!
I went there as a kid in the Late 60s They had an ice skating Rink and you think this is beautiful just imagine the 60s people dressed really nice like "The Mad Men" era and snow and skating It stuck in my head since then I recently went up there to visit again with my wife she was really impressed. But, They Croton could do so much more in the flat ground right in front of the Damn
I’ve gotten multiple comments of people saying that the 60s was more beautiful. I wish I was there to see it. I’m guessing maybe things like the ice rink were removed due to factors like maintenance costs. I honestly think the open green space is nice to have picnics or barbecues, plus it looks more natural.
I grew up near here but don't remember ever visiting it. What a great video. What great engineers Westchester County had back then. Beauty was part of their design.
Thanks! I agree!
Wow!!! The last time I was here was about 1996, it was so nice then when I first visited and still is, thank you!
My pleasure!
After the first reservoir was constructed (Old Croton Reservoir) the next one to built was Boyd's Corners in Putnam County which is north of Westchester County.
NYC DEP will never allow hydropower because it could impact the quality of the water needed to generate enough power to make it feasible. NYC and Syracuse are the only municipal water systems with a waiver to not to filter their system.
The Black Water District is the agency that controls the infiltration of salt water up the Hudson. They control Sacandaga Reservoir and release water to keep salt from getting into Westchester water supply and Newburgh and Kingston One year we actually had to drain the reservoir because of a drought. It was the lowest Sacandaga Reservoir had been since it was built. Fun fact, the Pike in Sacandaga Reservoir are as big as sharks and bite people's legs Seriously, look it up on the Times Union Largest Pike known live in Sacandaga Reservoir Over 12 feet long
We did a documentary on the NYC watershed It is MASSIVE They suck the entire Schoharie Creek and Adirondack watershed and send it through a tunnel under the Catskills and into the Ashokan Reservoir. The pipes are massive from the Ashokan and sends it under the Hudson River and into this area and down under the Sawmill. There are 3 tunnels that bring water to NYC They are bigger than subway tunnels. Many of the remains of the NYC reservoirs still exist in Manhattan Central Park. There are no pumps Everything is gravity fed. True engineering
I got to visit there someday
I think you meant the Catskills, not the Adirondacks. The original Dam was built in the 1800's and is submerged since the present Dam is higher.
@@spuds6423 The tunnel from the Ashokan Reservoir goes underground to the Schoharie Creek. The creek is fed be the Adirondacks.
@@ocsrc Schoharie Creek is in the Catskills and runs North to the Mohawk Valley...The Heidelberg area is at best close to the foothills of the Adirondacks which are north of the Mohawk Valley.
Always interesting to see that these old public works were not just designed for their specific function, but with aesthetic quality also.
I agree
Massive amount of cut stone granite I presume. Brave are the people who would conceived and execute such a grand project so long ago. It would be hard pressed to duplicate in todays world. @6:49 I believe those are not called windows but instead called gates, flood gates. @11:30 that is the spillway. In time of low water levels they could direct water out only the gates so inspection or repairs of the spillway could be preformed. Really good video thanks for making it.
You're correct on both of them! Thanks for the info!
its man made so not as cool as nature, but pretty cool
Have you been to Montauk before? What’s your favorite attraction or activity in the area?
Visiting Camp Hero!!
Have you visited Nintendo New York? Have you purchased anything from here? Which Nintendo consoles do you own? What is/are your favorite(s) Nintendo series?
Have you visited Croton Gorge Park?
@@DennisPharmD yes twice once in the late summer and once in the Winter.
Have you visited Pittsburgh? What is your favorite attraction?
@DennisPharmD Enjoy your trip to Pittsburgh ! It really is a wonderful city! 🤗🥰🤗
That's New York for you, ten bucks to park, maybe tey balancing your budget you greedy bastards, that's the PRNY, PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF NEW YORK.
Thanks for sharing this video. I went there yesterday. And I am wondering about when "Godzilla" will come cracking down...
My pleasure! Lol!
Nice video. The building just beyond the Throgs Neck bridge is the condominum, Cryder House.
Thanks! That's a nice looking luxurious building. I bet it has a wonderful view of the waterfront.
Great video 👍🏻😎
Thanks!
Cool video. Here’s hoping Metroid gets more merch in Nintendo NYC. Especially with Prime 4 Beyond with a lot of Metroid characters like Sylux. It’s a great series, but frustratingly inconsistent because of low sales.
Thanks! Hopefully, the anticipated hype would be rewarded with an amazing game! Nintendo needs to bring back old IPs like F-Zero.
Thanks for posting this video. My father took me fishing on the piers at Robert Moses State Park on weekends way back to the early 1960s, during the late spring through the early fall. Before the causeway connecting Robert Moses to Long Island was completed, the only way to get to Robert Moses was ferry service from Captree or if you were a boat owner. The fishing was very good with flounders, blowfish, and blackfish caught in good numbers. The fishing back then was much better than it is now. Captree hasn't changed much since those days. The Captree fishing boats fished close to our location on Robert Moses, underneath or close to the causeway.
That's amazing! Thanks for providing the history, I wish I was able to see it!
Chinese tourists are EVERYWHERE...jeez...I was just in Germany and they were all over like white on rice.
So?
Ficou ótimo!
i would waste too much money there!
Does anyone else get why they put Nintendo world champions above the trash and recycling bins? If you guessed, "because Nintendo world champions IS recycled trash"... you win!
Nice video >:D
i’m going crabbing on saturday, thanks for sharing this! usually i don’t get as much as i used to, but it’s a fun thing to do! i also throw my leftover bait to the seagulls 😊
You're welcome! I hope have fun and you are successful in your catch!
@@DennisPharmD thank you ☺️
Gorgeous. I don't know why and how, but New York wins, hands down, with the state's steel and masonry bridges.
Did you just state that NYC gets 580 gallons of water?! That's an aquarium dude. I think you misstated your stats.
My mistake, 580 billion gallons.
@Dennis8795 my kids use 580 gallons in every shower that they take
Thank you for posting. Nice video
Thanks!
We went there last year what a beautiful place & the history is amazing
I saw this place in videos and pictures which does not compare when going in real life. I love NYC drinking water, so it makes it even better!
Quite a engineering project! I had never heard of this . Thanks for the tour!
My pleasure! One of the great hidden gems of the New York City Metropolitan Area
Beautiful park and water reservoir system
The pictures from this site does not compare to visiting in real life
Nice you were able to see it in person? Really cool
Nice production, Dennis
