This book has always been one of my favorites. I first read it when I was 20, in 2005, and ever since I reread it at least once a year. It’s long since become my go-to when things in real life are terrible. No matter what’s gone on in my life; poverty, illness, death, severe depression, drug abuse… by god at least I haven’t gone through the stuff Jurgis, Ona, Marija and Elzbieta have gone through! I haven’t been eaten by rats like Stanislovas. I haven’t worked in a fertilizer plant. I haven’t had to work in a bawdy house. This book centers me. I have the unabridged version too, but I like the simplicity of this one.

WOW this chapter dropps the nword a lot!

I wish the reader could read with slightly slower cadence. He reads like he’s impatient. Just plodding through the story. He doesn’t have much sense of timing . Reads like a monotone robot.

Just asking, I'm a bit confused on this ending. Do you got any idea what it means, or is meant to be? I mean I know what all has happened, but I feel like there is symbolism I'm not understanding

Thank you! Similar to that other comment down here, I'm a slow reader. This helps a ton, and also helps me kind of process what I'm reading. Not the best at reading quickly and really comprehending so this is amazing. Been reading this now, before we had to read "A Doll's House" and then before that, The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne.

Had a concussion and couldn't read at all which made me fall behind a lot, your audiobook saved me from LOADS of stress and anxiety, so thank you so much for making these! Was able to finish everything in one day and it's a huge relief.
