The Grief Channel
United Kingdom
Приєднався 23 сер 2022
Welcome to The Grief Channel, dedicated to normalizing conversations around grief, death and dying. Grief can be incredibly tough, but is a natural part of life and can be transformative, instead of being something to be feared and locked away. Our mission is to share knowledge, research and stories that people can relate to, and to provide solace and support. Content comes from Good Grief Festival, which, since its launch in October 2020, has reached over 25,000 people in the UK around the world. Speakers and participants have come from all walks of life, united in sharing their knowledge and experiences of grief. Good Grief is run by a team at the University of Bristol, working with a wide network of collaborators and supporters, with funding from the National Lottery Community Fund.
Breathtaking - Dr Rachel Clarke Discusses Her New TV Series
This event originally aired in March 2024.
We were delighted to welcome author and palliative care doctor Dr Rachel Clarke back to Good Grief, in conversation with Dr Lucy Selman about 'Breathtaking,' Rachel’s 2021 book, which launched in 2024 as a three-part series on ITV.
In this session, featuring clips from the series, Rachel and Lucy discuss the creation of the TV adaptation, and its reception and impact, and invite questions from the audience.
Breathtaking is an unflinching insider’s account of medicine in the time of coronavirus. Amid the tensions, fatigue and rising death toll of the early days of the coronavirus, Rachel witnessed the courage of patients and NHS staff alike in conditions of unprecedented adversity. For all the bleakness and fear, she found that moments that could stop you in your tracks abounded. People who rose to their best, upon facing the worst, as a microbe laid waste to the population.
The new TV series is set in a city hospital, and combines news footage from the early months of 2020 following frontline medical staff trying to save the lives of coronavirus patients as the virus begins to overwhelm the NHS.

'It's normal to drop out': Katherine May on the power of 'Wintering' in grief
I’m a poet and a writing for well-being practitioner and I agree with this, there is a lot of evidence that poetry and song supports mental wellbeing. I have experienced healing through writing poetry.
The olfactory senses are the most powerful. They have the ability to transport into the past, and our sense of place.
The McMillan nurses are wonderful.
Love you both so much ! Thanks for sharing !
I can totally relate with getting angry at little things. This woman just might save me.
What a healing medicine! Exactly what I need right now. Bless you two!
I saw Outpatient at the Reading Rep Theatre last night. Harriet Madeley is highly talented. The play was very clever, funny and made you think deeply on life. Superb play.
A wonderful interview. Nice one Mel. Keep up the good work Danny (Rate My Takeaway) 😊😎
I walked in to find my mother ( my life partner who was everything to me and really kept me going ) dead and you've never heard anyone scream so hard for so long. I thought I was going to die my heart was racing so much. I couldn't sleep for a while yet was so so tired with grief. I was now an orphan, without a child or a partner. Six months later there are still regular tears but I am already feeling better. I hate the fact I will always feel the sadness, but I just want to say to anyone going through this in the early stages, just give it time. Persevere. Persevere. One minute at a time.

My hubby and three of our six adult children were diagnosed with a multisystemic neurological wasting disease. The first diagnosis came when the youngest was 23 yrs old, just over a decade ago. All of them have steadily declining health. Mostly, I am OK taking it a day at a time, but every now and then, there is a crisis, I cope, but when things settle down, it hits me very hard. It is a rare illness so many Drs have never seen it and want to give treatment that is contraindicated, so I've had to learn as much as I can about to be able to respectfully point the Drs to the right information and research. Being their advocate as well as a loved one is a big responsibility. There is also a level of cognitive decline and the well people don't get it.
Thank you so much! Where can I find methods to induce sensory experiences of my loved one?
Iv just lost my husband & I’m finding it hard to cope without him . I also have anxiety which is getting worse. I’m 💔 . Please pray for me . Thank you. 🙏
This is so good! What an amazingly generous and knowledgeable person David is; I just love the compassion and wisdom he brings to his practice. I’m so sad he knows how I’m feeling, but I see the meaning in his life - that he brings his personal experience of grief and as a result is more able to reach his fellow grievers. Thank you for sharing this 🥰
I just found out a former close friend died unexpectedly, and I am angry with myself for not reaching out to try to resolve the long ago issue we had. No closure, no chance for resolution, all gone completely. And I am angry, at myself. And of course greatly shocked and saddened by the loss. I hate never knowing what good or bad, would have emerged from a hey after all these years. At least I would have known the final outcome, and this sudden death was not it.
My partner died suddenly and traumatically before my eyes and the quote Dr. Selman read of Dr. Koster's resonates deeply with me. Is the talk from October 2023 available anywhere? Thank you for sharing <3
It is so very much true!
This was extremely helpful for me. This resonated more than my grief share group because it solely focuses on losing a spouse. I lost my husband 3 months ago. I feel so much despair, sadness, loneliness, and anger. I miss him terribly. I am overwhelmed with all that I need to do in handling the finances, maintaining the house, and medical bills. A lot of this my husband did, unfortunately.

Very helpful, thx.
Julia Samuel is incredible. Sooo insightful. Her words are sooo healing for me.
I'm so impressed that Raynor & Moth had the gumption to undertake further challenging walks in Iceland and Scotland.

I have just lost my husband suddenly. It's just been 5days and my emotions are on a roller coaster. I feel like I'm falling down a hole.
you will do for a long time - go with it - every emotion and not a day at a time, a minute at a time
I lost my husband suddenly nine weeks ago. I’ve been crying every day. I think I am losing it.
This was very helpful, thank you for sharing :)
❤
Julia's description of what grief is and what it isn't rings so true.
This is very wise advise. Thank you.
In the fall of 2022, My lil lady felt ill, We did the hospital trips, Followed up, Followed doctors advice, Followed up. On the morning of December 13th, 2022, While I was getting dressed for work, I discovered My lil lady, Unalive in my bed. I’ve faced hard times before, However nothing like this.
I am so sorry for you loss.
Rubbish
Bless this man
I was living in Vermont and still am where my partner and I built our own house together. One day law officers came to my door and told me Joe was dead. I collapsed. They picked me up and brought me in to my house , our house. The shock was so severe I didn’t even feel alive more like floating. Joe had also been the main source of income so there was the extra blow of eventually how was I to survive on my own.
Thank you. I feel the same way.
Do you have a video about alienated parents and grandparents? It’s heartbreaking and we have that loss of control, connection, shame. There’s so little information. Thank you
My common law husband was murdered in front of me. His mother blames me and this funeral. Has definitely divided many.
"Trippled as a result of the VACCINE" not a fake flu...!!!
My oldest sister passed suddenly of cardiac arrest on January 2nd 2024. Just one week after her 4th booster. We fought like cats and dogs over this topic and begged her not to. I’m the only nurse in my family and the only one that never received it. I’m so devastated and angry and sad and I wish I was wrong about her cause of death.
Did he just say “we-ness” ?
Best book I read in YEARS! Thank you @Raynor Winn
Life is a flawed design. I’m not a fan. It’s just to painful. Pain, pain, pain.
It sure is. Most people believe life is what we all make it. And there is truth to it. But reality is tough and does not make sense despite living in a world where it is based on sensing. It is mind boggling how humans deal with life. 😮💨
Pleas help I have morning sickness every morning I have to vomit. I can't accept that my husband is gone
Wow Amazing. Thank you Julia Samuel. Today is 87th day of my mom's passing unexpectedly at the hospital. I am now more understanding of grief and memory. Words can not express my pain and guilt. Only thru your video I can move one step forward toward healing.
Julia is great. The host not so much and she would have had a better video if she hadn’t included herself into the presentation but let Julia be the focus.
What a lovely lady x
20:05. Whenever you're in your body your cortisol levels go down. As😂 opposed to jumping out of your skin or being beside yourself et cetera.
Thank you for this video. Your channel could use more content regarding grief as the result of losing a pet. Pets occupy unique places in our lives and they're often more highly integrated into our day to day lives than most of the people we know. Losing my best friend of the last 17 years has been one of the most devastating experiences I've had in my life. It's time for our culture as a whole to take this loss more seriously.
It would of been really helpful to hear this 32 years ago when my Dad died suddenly through elective death.
Thank you for sharing this.
This woman has lied about everything. A fraud, working for very dark forces.
