Not a Penny on the Rents (1968 London tenants rent strike)
Переглядів 1344 роки тому
How GLC (Greater London Council) tenants held a rent strike against rent raises Produced, Directed, Filmed and Edited by Cinema Action It is interesting that Housing Problems (d. Arthur Elton/Edgar Anstey, 1935) should be celebrated for its scenes of working-class tenants describing the slum conditions in which they live. Not a Penny on the Rents has fewer such scenes, yet contains powerful seq...

The Battle for Broadway Market - Intro
Переглядів 1,9 тис.17 років тому
At the end of November 2005 an occupation was started by local residents at 34 Broadway Market to prevent it being knocked down for luxury flats. Over the next few months support multiplied and the news travelled around the world. It's a story that brings in corrupt property developers, an incompetent council, rampant gentrification and the question of just what sort of community we want in 21s...

Sally Hawkins is AMAZING!!! I love this speech!!! Powerful.
This guy is seriously revolutionizing science. Where can I find the full version of this documentary? This is great. It's obviously part of a longer video. What is the source for this clip?

WHY NO LONGER AVAILABLE SOUNDS LIKE THIS NOW? SIMPLY BRILLIANT!!
is that the commodore 64 sign at the beginning?
fyii im 14... MANFRED MANN IS UNBELEIVEABLE!!!!!! =D
to HateIronMaiden thanks for your various remarks. I wasn't born until '59 and didn't discover Mighty Quin until the mid-late 70's and then didn't learn until the late 80's that it was the new "Manfred Mann's Earth Band" who sang Blinded by the light. I appreciate your knowledge. I love some of the older music like this!!!! Sorry about any typos, my computer is missing a couple of keys
Yes, they've got many great song. With Paul Jones as vocalist in the early '60's, Mike d'Abo in the late '60's, with Mike Hugg as Manfred Mann, Chapter Three in 1969-1971, and as Manfred Mann's Earth Band with Chris Thompson since 1972, they've always been great!
1. It's NOT PLAYBACK! 2. The dancing at that time WAS A COOL THING IN THE '60's! Much cooler than your fucking rap!
They don't lip-syncs, you shit! They're playing live her, unlike your favourite AC&DC, which plays playback at every concert!
No, Manfred Mann always leaded band, and he still leads Manfred Mann's Earthband. Paul Jones sang in the period 1962-1967, and Mike d'Abo took over his roll in '67, and sang untill the band broke up in '72, and then Manfred Mann formed the new Manfred Mann's Earth Band.
Oh yeah, of course..Bob Dylan. Possibly one of the worst singers of all time...
There were many great UK groups of the 60s, but Manfred Mann are right up there amongst the best of the best. This song was one of their best, out of many well-written & well-performed numbers spanning quite a few years. Thanks for this posting ! Great memories.
I was 17 when this song came out. I would say it brings back good memories. It was the Vietnam era plus there was the King and RFK assassinations,a rough year but ma great song!
This show was broadcast back in January 2008 as part of the BBC's mini Top of the Pops season. The entire edition is fantastic, with Brenton Wood, Status Quo, The Alan Price Set, The Move and this brilliant piece!!! Dave Cach and Jimmy Savile were the hosts.
Ha ha, I used to live on this street. Halarious how middle class people always sit around sipping coffee in the array of upmarket coffee shops complaining about gentrification. GET A CUPPA IN THE BRAODWAY CAFE (if it's still there?)
Fantastic! Thanks for posting!
sorry, the bloke at 15 seconds in - what the fuck darling! Do you think working class people do NOT also inhabit a world of consumerism? Also, don't you work in the sodding bookshop or something? Look at your hair, listen to your voice! Get a grip mate. Gentrification is about the prices of goods and housing rising astronomically because of opportunist businesses and landlords. Not boo-hooing cos some wine drinkers have made your area less edgy and cool. (A)
