This UA-cam channel is home to my music tutorials that I do with programs like Finale, Logic, Sibelius, Muse Score and other such programs. There is a lot of free content on this channel but I will be providing referrals to paid products that I create as well. If you want to learn how to write music digitally, this is the channel for you!
How To Use Text Symbols in Finale
In this tutorial, I briefly explain how I use the text symbols to dress up my score. I explain how to find "symbols" in the text inserts and then go down the list. I am using Finale v26. Now, I know that Finale is quitting further development, but for those of us who still use it, maybe this video could be of some use.
I hope this helps.

Identifying Notes in Each of the Moveable C Clefs
This doesn't solve the problem of Sibelius deleting your title and other data when you remove the first bar. There is an option to add a pickup bar in the time signature dialogue box. That does solve the problem.
thanks!
Terrible app that’s beta. Useless and not reliable. I uninstalled it. Complete garbage.

Okay step on how do I even add extra bar lines and staff. (When I open MuseScore it only has ONE treble clef and no options to change sound or instruments)
Hi. I just posted a new video about this on this channel. If you need more help, I'll do more on it.
very good it easy to read when note show alpha....c D E F G A B......
WAYYYYYYY too much talk about NOTHING and not enough explanation on how to e.g. put fingering on CHORDS in the left hand that are stacked.
Thank you!
bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla.....why do nearly ALL youtubers talk so much, especially americans? Man, that sucks! You can tell what you want in this video in ABOUT 10 seconds! Again wasted 6minutes of my time...
*PromoSM* 🙂
Hey! I am the first person to view this video! (I have never been the first before!) I learned how to do Composite Time signatures - which is good. Keep them coming!
Thank you. Is it possible to automatically add accidentals to the individual notes for a given key?
Hello , can you please show how to write 16 notes or more on one quarter? I know how to do it till 9 on one quarter but don’t know how to organise bigger number of notes on one quarter…. Thank you beforehand
Please watch the latest video that I just published. It will show you how to do this.

Is there a way to make a tremolo on a single half note, like you'd see in a string part?
Good question. Let me look into it. I’ll get back to you.
This is very confusing...
I’m so sorry. I may re-do or re-explain this.
Can this be done in Finale 2010? If so, how??
Try going to TGTools and go down to where it says “easy tremolos.” Then, there is a way once inside the tremolo to tell it how to play the tremolos back.
Thank you so much
You're most welcome
That is the long way of doing things. there is another way but I don't remember how to do it. i was hoping that you know it.
This is a good introduction; however, start by adding the first fingering, on the first note and then simply hit the spacebar to move to the right and add fingerings as you go. If you are writing for piano, harp, anything with more than one part, do this for each line of music. As for adding TAB, I am more familiar with Sibelius than MuseScore but I do believe it is the same and you can copy the notation and paste it into the tab. It should transpose it correctly into tablature.
How do you unhide hidden staves?
It's automatic? I mean the software change the right fingering? it is also possible to insert the fingering of an imported score?
【p】【r】【o】【m】【o】【s】【m】
Awesome. Thank you 😊
Thank you

thanks dude but you didn't say that you have to select the speedy entry to do it
Thanks a bunch, you saved me!
Thanks for this comment. I couldn’t figure it out!
It cracks me up how people think that FREE = BEGINNER. FREE does not mean beginner. Personally anyone who spends $200 to $600 dollars for Finale is throwing away their money. Musescore can do EVERYTHING that Finale can do. Musescore 4 even has VST plugin capability. I have used Finale in the past and there is not a single thing Finale can do that Musescore cannot. So stop saying musescore = beginners. I am a professional musician and teacher and I use musescore, and will never waste money on Finale. Finale is not worth the price.
If I may clarify, this was intended as a tutorial for new users. So, I'm not saying MuseScore =Beginner. I'm simply providing new users information. I did spend $200 for Finale in 2007 as a new college freshman. At the time, I personally didn't know about MuseScore. You're right! MuseScore is phenomenal! I'm still learning new features of the software. I just share when I've found something out to others in hopes to help them. Is MuseScore 4 out yet? If it is, I'll go download it.
@@CodyWeinmannComposer Musescore is out as an alpha beta. It is awesome. Stable, but not officially released. I downloaded it and it works great in the alpha beta stage, as long as you download the current version that says, "Master" . I stay away from the versions that just say updated. I only download the alpha beta versions that say, "Master". It has VST in support.
it is also possible to insert the fingering of an imported score, download from internet for example? Is possible make it a automatic way, the software choose the right fingering for me?
@@giuseppebonelli , yes you can insert fingerings.
@@tgrimes175 can I import a PDF score downloaded from internet on the software music score?
jeeez, so much water and useless information... argh
Thank you!! 😁
It doesn’t show when I drag it over to the notes
Do you mean that the green plus sign doesn't show on the note you're dragged to.
That’s shows but after that nothing happens@@CodyWeinmannComposer
@@cowplantsimmer8432 Hey, what beat (eighth note, sixteenth) are you dragging it over to? I may do a followup video on this soon. I realized in some cases, one has to use the mid-beam button and drag that over to the second note in a pair of notes in order to beam them together and use the no beam tool and drag it over each note to break the beams.
thank you so much ! this was so helpfull!
Glad it was helpful!
Great video! Is there any exclusivity on the recording of the arrangement for SMP press or is the sheet music the only part they label as exclusive?
Thank you so much
You're very welcome!
Hello, thank you so much. Helped me a lot. Your tip was excellent. I'm a "classical" composer, I'm learning to write with Finale. I'm another subscriber to your channel. I'll be watching your videos from now on. Congratulations! Hugs from Sao Paulo!
Do you have videos out on starting a score say in this case 3/4 time and along the way changing quarter notes to eight notes and maybe slurring them together and so fourth?
Hi, I actually don't yet, but it is a fabulous idea. I will definitely consider putting some out soon.
This is interesting in that you are using a keyboard for note entry. That's what I want to be able to do. I have been warned, however, that I will need to be able to play robotically, so that Finale groups notes, etc correctly, to avoid me having to edit like crazy later. However, I remember the music shop guy telling me there is an audible metronome facility which will help here. For now, I'm using the free version of Finale and have already ordered a MIDI cable to link my Technics SX-PR603 digital piano to my PC where of course Finale will be listening. Presumably, the metronome sound will come from Finale, not my piano? I'm using a Windows 8.1 PC and doing manual note entry which is time-consuming. I've watched several tutorials on UA-cam so far which are helpful, so I hope my new cable that I've paid £50 for, will do the job, so that I can just sit and play the piano, both hands, listening intently to the metronome so that Finale will hopefully do the rest for me, with minimal editing.
do you know how to get rid of the line through the note, behind the letter on the alpha note? I started doing this for some students, but sometimes the line is going through a note, like D. And with the line, it kind of looks like a B.
Let me look into it. I'll do a video once I figure it out.
Highlight the passage you want to edit. Then go to Plugins> note, beam and rest editing> Ledger lines (hide). That should do it.
Thanks that helped! But is there a quicker way - to set the whole document to default to a certain beaming? Say if I have a 6/8 piece, it should be divided 3+3 which finale does not do for some reason. I couldn't get the hang of it through time signature tool either, though it's probably there that we should find the settings for that....
Yes, you would go to the time signature tool to set this. I may do a video on this tomorrow. In order to do this, there is an area in the time signature dialog box where you set the dotted quarter note as your unit of measure. Then, click through the top number until you get to 6/8 which would equate to 2 dotted quarter notes. If you use 9/8, you'd have 3 dotted quarters in the signature, the dotted quarter note being the bottom number of the time signature. That should automatically beam the eighth notes in groups of 3. It may better for me to make a video explaining and showing it so you can see.
@@CodyWeinmannComposer so 6/8 worked well as you've instructed. But I have sth more complex - it's a 13/8 divided 3+3+3+2+2. So it's composite, and I need three dotted quarters and two quarters in each measure. And in composite dialog box I can't seem to create it. Help?
@@eransolomontorah Let me look into it and try it out for myself using the time signature you're using and I'll get back to you.
@@CodyWeinmannComposer thanks I appreciate it!

thanks a lot ...
You should learn before you teach. You're doing all the wrong way. Very bad video
yes, but....is there a shortcut command to "hide empty staves'. I use this command constantly....and I need a quick key solution....HELP!!!!!
There is no direct key command for hiding empty staves, although, you can select the staff tool and hit shift and a number or letter key to create a meta tool that can force hide the staves. I just did a video of that a few minutes ago. I'll be putting that up later. Also, check this link out: usermanuals.finalemusic.com/Finale2014Mac/Content/Finale/Keyboard_Shortcuts_and_Special_Mouse_Clicks.htm
Hi ı need a program which add fingernumber auto because ı am beginner
Hey. In a program called Muse Score you can enter fingering numbers. I did a video on this: ua-cam.com/video/AwwLqT-pkHI/v-deo.html. In Finale, I believe you can go to plug-ins menu and i believe auto fingering is there.
@@cjwmusictutorials8282 I've been using Finale since 98. Finale STILL can not get guitar right. I have spoken in person with the developers at the NAMM show multiple times throughout the years and they continuously drop the ball. 23 years later they still can't get basic guitar notation working. I want to like the program but as a guitarist, I just can't.
