In my experience with measuring behind they didn’t change my due date and left everything based off my LMP. I did go back two weeks after my first appointment to have another ultrasound done to check on the growth of the baby and at that ultrasound I went from being 7 days behind to 3 days behind. I also will say my baby has measured behind by 3-5 days in every ultrasound I’ve ever had. I asked my high risk doctor about if I should be concerned about it and he said no. Babies grow at different rates and it’s normal for them to measure behind or ahead within a week of your estimated due date. If it starts becoming like 2-3 weeks off that’s when they have cause for concern. Something you’re also at high risk for when you have blood pressure issues is something called fetal growth restriction and if a doctor suspects you might have that or be developing it they’ll bring you in for ultrasounds every 1-2 weeks. If you have had a Pap smear in the last calendar year they typically don’t do another right when you get pregnant. For me the did because I had this appointment in August and I was due for a papsmear in September so they went ahead and done one at the first appointment. I also know from my sisters pregnancy experience that if you go to a group of OBGYN’s at some point during your pregnancy they make you see all the doctors within that practice just so they are familiar with you and so you are familiar with them. They do that be because any of them could be the one to deliver your baby it just depends on who is on call when you go into labor. You may not get the OBGYN that you picked to deliver your baby. I’ve seen one other doctor at the OBGYN office that I go to aside from my normal doctor but that didn’t happen until I was in the second trimester. I also started taking baby aspirin at 12 weeks to help prevent pre-eclampsia that was something is recommended by my high risk doctor. I totally understand not knowing what questions to ask too. Most everything I’ve learned has been from the internet and that’s a big reason why I decided to share my journey of being pregnant in the first place. I keep a list on my phone of questions I think of in between appointments and I try to ask a couple every time I go in for an appointment but I’ve honestly found that incredibly difficult especially the further along I get. In the beginning I feel like my OB cared and took time to answer questions and listen to my concerns but I’ve been struggling for months now with blood sugar and blood pressure issues and just feeling horrible in general and now most recently I’ve had a heart issue going on and I feel like she just disregards everything I say. As long as things look good to her on a piece of paper she just moves on and doesn’t actually help me with anything going on or even acknowledge how I feel. I decided to switch OBGYN’s because of all of it. However I will say it is incredibly difficult to change OBGYN’s especially the further along you get into pregnancy. Most OBGYN’s have cut off dates and they won’t take you as a new patient once you reach a certain amount of weeks along in pregnancy. Some practices it’s as soon as 18 weeks, or 20 weeks or 25 weeks, and etc. I did find another doctor but she’s in the the same office that my last OBGYN is in and I have my first appointment with her on January 4th. So we’ll see how that goes. I would highly recommend if you have blood pressure stuff going on that you make sure your normal OBGYN refers you to a Fetal and Maternal Medicine doctor which is a high risk OBGYN. (If they haven’t done so already.) The high risk dr will monitor your blood pressure closely and make any medication changes you need and they will also monitor the growth of the baby really closely as well. I love my high risk Dr and he’s been great at answering all my questions and explaining things that are going on. I wish he could deliver my baby and that he was the only OBGYN that I had to see. My other piece of advice is if you’re not 100% satisfied with your OBGYN and you don’t feel like they explain things or take the time to answer your questions then look into another OBGYN before you get to far along in pregnancy. You’re paying them to care for you and your baby and if they don’t make you feel 100% comfortable and they don’t make it easy to communicate and ask questions to then switch and go somewhere else. @breevickery469 Thank you, yea my doctor only scheduled me every 3 weeks to see me and does a quick ultrasound doesn't tell me anything at all there was only 1 who was really nice who answer and asked me questions but the other 3 I seen didn't ask me or answer my questions like I would've liked. This information actually was not shared when I enrolled into the teachers college at WGU. It was shared after I had already changed majors and started my first semester in the teachers college. I'm sure if you enroll in a teaching degree from the very beginning of your wgu journey that they disclose some of this, but you don't find out about all the little things until you've already signed up for it.
