as someone working on their own game for going on 2 years now (that also started as an idea I couldn't stop thinking about), I'll pass on a piece of advice I found incredibly helpful that saved my butt. Make your save system as soon as you can. You'd be surprised how much links into it in a complex game (yours looks to be open world), and the last thing you want to do is have all your game systems white boxed out and then have to go through and link everything up to a save system. It also ends up making testing soooo much easier, since you can save in a certain situation, or open a save file and edit things manually

Good luck with your quest! Have you considered Godot? As a music producer with very little programming knowledge, I've found Godot to be super easy to use and the community is so rich with resources and support! Also it feels good using an open source software to create quality work comparable to any other engine

Japan is amazing, I was there in 2019! I hope to be able to go back someday. I highly recommend visiting the Book Off stores where there are a lot of video games and mangas. Also, Yokohama and Miyajima Island. Tokyo is the most incredible city that exists :D Enjoy it!

Go play Portal 1 and 2 if you haven't yet. In those games you can place portals on designated surfaces and jump between them.

Dont make a game solo. Its like level 9,000 difficulty.

Unreal is a great engine and i have no issue with using it, but i would be interested to see what your thoughts on godot would be, as its a very capable engine too and it would probably run on the old mac. also you could put linux on the old mac and see how that goes as a secondary laptop for testing. good luck :)

2:53 - That brings me some good old memories. Back in 2002, when I finally got my GameCube, on the first, I showed it to a neighbor and he just went: "let me see it!" in pressed the button to open the part where you put the discs. That button got stuck. I was able to fix it, but the button was never really well aligned again. I didn't even had a game at the time, my dad saved some money to buy the console, but didn't have money to buy any game (I had to wait two week until I a found a place to rent games in the neighbouring city).
