As you can see this channel is not monetized, I make these videos for free and if it helps even 1 person I'm happy. My amazon Affiliate links are sometimes added to videos if I remember, so far it's generated almost 10 cents in 2024.
My videos include Repairs, Builds and other sometimes ridiculous DIY projects; some meticulously detailed others just presented for your information or entertainment!
I started filming DIY repair videos in 2011 doing camera repairs because there just weren't enough videos giving EXPLICIT instructions on how to do complicated things. There were ALWAYS steps left out or done off camera and it bothered me thinking about the people who tried DIY projects never knowing that the hard part wasn't shown...
Well turns out making a fully comprehensive repair video is VERY difficult and time consuming and there's no way to get paid for all that extra time and effort, so I've begun making simpler DIY videos along with the complicated ones.

Emergency MANUAL REMOVAL of a Mini DV Tape From a Dead Camcorder HV30
If you want to be fancy, this is my Amazon affiliate link to a cool battery holder: amzn.to/3Xy5y8R
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
This video shows how to manually remove a Mini-DV tape from a dead camcorder. This is best performed as a LAST RESORT, I would speculate that it could cause damage to the main circuits if too much power was applied for too long. This one is for the Canon Vixia HV30, which will be similar for the HV20, and HV40.
Tools required are a small Phillips head screwdriver (size 0 or 00), a pry tool, a pair of AA or AAA batteries (C or D would be fine too) some tape and a few inches of wire.

These can be tricky to install since there are No instructions! The drawer rails are easy once you see how they go. I used glue on my cabinet because it's the end unit but it isn't really necessary. Typically those plastic angle brackets go on the top, I put a set on the bottom so the cabinets can slide around on the floor with damaging the finish. OK this might work for when the inlaws are coming over, but doing it right is a bit more involved. How much more depends on your definition of "right" as well as what finish you want to have. I will live with this flaw... Putting all back together will not guarantee the camera will be alive
yea if this was my camera I would have super glued it or something instead of doing ALL that work.
Really helped! Appreciate it
They used to have the screws accessible from the top on other models. How frustrating for such a simple fix to be this complicated.
Update 8/1/2024 The dispute with UA-cam's copywrite tool worked out fine. The label just let it go 30 days and it cleared up.
My g4 pro has stopped being detected online. Only the backlight diodes are lit. It does not respond to the reset button. Tell me what can be done?
SAME. EXACT. PROBLEM. I have a dead g4pro camera. My PoE switch also died the same time, maybe coincidence. I tried opening the G4Pro but there was nothing to fix. I have thrown it all in the trash. I was already pretty upset that you can't download footage in bulk so I was done. I suppose you can call them and complain but I have never returned anything in my life and I wasn't gonna start. Good Luck!
Just paid 20$ for a subscription 😁 Great tool for software devs 😅
I forgot about that! I made a website a few weeks ago with it and I know very little about Javascript but it filled in all the blanks for me. It helped me make a terrible but functional android app too, first time ever attempting that with barely any knowledge.

Now do it in Haiku. Connie and Hugh spoke, Ten by ten confirmed in full, Work done as agreed. Grass and bees remain, No changes to what was set, Bound by contract terms. Push this matter more, Legal steps we will pursue, Firm in our resolve.
Yes, nice! I can see one of those on a nice hand written note mailed to them... with their summons.

Soon AI will be speaking and choosing for you and you will be clueless. Until it is too late.
How much? Like how much per month will that version be. Can it also get my groceries because I feel a little silly picking these great meals to make and then also having to grocery shop; looking up and going to buy each ingredient every week. I've got other stuff to do is all I'm saying.
Omg I get it now!😂😂
I would give it a like but mandatory dislike because you decided to be a pussy and disable the dislike.
That's not a thing Hugh, but thanks for watching.
Loving the names of your annoying clients! 😂😂😂
Need this in my life. "Dear entitled moron who lacks the basic ability to read a simple tape..." translated to "Dear customer".
Damn, everything should be in poem form.
LMAO.... excellent
I may have forgotten to mention something important. NEVER use AI generated anything verbatim. I can spot an ai written message a mile away because it uses the same weird adjectives and odd phrasing over and over. It's only meant to get you started down the right path. You get google docs on your phone for free then copy paste the parts you like, the structure and fill in the rest to sound the way you want. Ai is your assistant not your replacement. Tip: You can tell ai to stop using certain words that you would never use.
Hah nice one. 👍
This is what secretaries used to do.
Your secretary uses chatgpt?
@@LennyMiller739 :) slow clap
What a great idea, definitely kept you out of legal hot water. Although I must say, doing work for a customer that is concerned about the amount of grass for the bees, may have been a red flag.😊
I love your response.
ChatGPT is great for this, probably much like yourself my immediate reaction would be a short "F*** Off idiot, I gave you exactly what you asked for".
The poem lmao
Nice video!
What's that link I mention? amzn.to/4bvIdso As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases made on Amazon, so buy lots of stuff!
good info but problem is; majority of repairs are done w/line attached/still in service in an awkward location... this is why you spend the $12 for a proper band cutter 🤠
Heh yeah when I had no money working on trailers of people with no money it's funny now how a 12 buck tool seemed like an insane amount of money to spend or couldn't imagine what it'd be like to not save a lil plastic piece and just buy a new one instead. Nowadays I'm with you, I can buy the tool I need to make things go better or go faster because time is just far more precious than money now... ain't like that for everyone, and even I need help remembering that sometimes.
That works, but they make ear clamp crimpers that can be quickly converted to removers. Much easier to just pinch the sides of the crimp and it will open right up.
Get my discount on royalty free music for your UA-cam Videos! Sign up for Audiio here: ref.audiio.com/md5t8eqg UPDATE 7/5/24: I haven't encountered any issues using sound effects in my monetized videos so far. However, the song I used was flagged on UA-cam, which was expected. I disputed the claim with the license number, but the artist or label hasn't released the claim yet. I'll have to wait until the 30-day period expires for them to officially reject my claim and resolve the issue. This seems to be the standard procedure for busy labels. The claim is automatic, and it's my responsibility to dispute it. If the label acknowledges my license, they don't need to take any action; it will resolve itself after 30 days. They would only need to intervene if there were a legitimate copyright issue.
Thank you very much! With patience and your your video tutorial, I was able to fix the loose hotshoe. 🎉
Wow, congrats on the repair, that is not easy and it's pretty scary opening up the entire camera to fix that.
I use a big set of linesman pliers. With a twist.
nice, does the little piece fire off like a projectile still?
@@Live-DIY no.

This works if you can lay your work on a table.
Oh yeah, I do all of my plumbing on the table. I find it a lot easier than doing it under those pesky sinks etc. LOL
Thanks!
My SB 600 only has a 24 MM setting Thanks but where do you get a replacement bulb?
Hey, I have my PC and Ubiquity equipment hooked up through the same ethernet going through the same router on the same Wi-Fi network as my my ubiquity switch, cloud key gen 2+, and my two G4 pro cameras. When I go through and do everything you did in the video it works great, but when I put my PC on a different Wi-Fi network, it does not show the ubiquity feed in OBS studio. I have closed and refreshed all of the ubiquity website tabs, deleted the link in OBS Studios and repasted a new link, I have been working on this for days. Is there some kind of setting I need to change to allow Ubiquiti to send the signal to a device on a different network? I need my ubiquity cameras and other ubiquity equipment offsite in a different location and I need the PC to stay at my house that’s why they need to be on different networks.
Ok let me reduce this to its parts to see if I understand correctly: Your camera and ubiq equip is all at Location A. It's filming and recording there and is connected to Location A's wifi which is connected to the internet. Your computer is at Location B connected to Location B's wifi which is also connected to the internet. You want to take the video from Location A and stream it to the internet using OBS studio. OBS studio needs to run on a computer, which is only available at Location B. Ok there's a big missing yet redundant piece here which is sending the video via the internet from location A to location B to then stream it to the internet.... Using the instructions from this video, yes your experiments are correct this will ONLY work if everything is on the same network / wifi, you aren't doing anything wrong in the settings. The problem is trying to stream from your PC on a different network/ wifi than the camera equipment. I had the exact same situation actually and I had to invest in a small computer (laptop) running OBS studio to leave onsite and using Remote Desktop, I connect from my location B computer (miles away) to control that Location A laptop to manage all that and make sure everything is running smoothly. There may some other workaround so if anyone want to chime in please do, I'm assuming you don't want to spend hundreds on dedicated streaming computer right now?
@@Live-DIY yes this is what im trying to do and I really don't have the money to just get another computer, I guess I'll have to figure out a different option. But definitely tag me here in the comments please if someone finds a solution.
Awesome! to the point and just what I needed to see!
It's simpler and cheaper just cut the mess out and repipe
Oh if only I wasn’t in a rush and paid closer attention OR watched your video first. Was putting a cage on mine (Neewer brand, very similar) and thought “ hey, I bet the tiny screws will go into the camera body where the strap lugs are, the lugs just need to be unscrewed”. WRONGO! Snap. Fortunately the cage still holds securely with the bottom and right side attachment points, but terribly annoying still to have screwed up like this.
I definitely cranked on that lug too the first time, but the video camera was rolling and for fear of embarrassment I knew I had to slow down and not break anything.... that's only reason I'm not in the same position you are.
Thanks for the video, I've been using completion clamps on a design because i didn't know how to remove these. Amateur "pro tip" if you heate the PEX pipe it can be pulled off with your fingers. (it's hot so don't clamp too hard or you'll burn you figures.)
Thanks, I did try the heating technique finally ua-cam.com/video/V-MJGzW5R_A/v-deo.html it works SO well!
Perfect! Thanks!
Love it! You are taking DIY to the next level. I draw the line at getting out my drill😊
Thanks for this. I don't have a warning light yet, but I have a pair of these full of 4 TB drives and haven't had a failure in 7 years. Which is starting to make me nervous. Feeling like I should proactively swap them.
Congrats on 7 yearsvof troublefree usage!! I would consider the environment you have (mine is humid and dusty) and also consider buying a couple backup drives but not replacing anything until it's time. I had a hard time finding the same drives I originally bought... I kinda think of it like light bulbs, have some extra but you probably don't need to be proactively replacing them. The hot swap worked perfectly with the Raid preserving all data, so nothing lost. I've now moved on to a 192 TB raid device but made sure to get a couple extra drives for down the road, since I'll probably forget where I got them!
This is impressive, Blake!
One day, one day it shall resemble a kitchen!
