Make your own lifts
Приєднався 21 жов 2016
Retired electrical engineer Bob Gray's simple lifts help him function at home despite his progressing ALS. These videos show how these clever and affordable devices function.

Impressive
let me clap my hands for your clever idea .... ❤
Thank you for sharing your plans and or even just the inspiration. I was already going to build my own so its nice to see yours working. Your design may be my hot tub transport method (darn stairs!) lol hope you are still with us. I was put in hospice the first time 7 years ago and project keep my brain from turning to mush
Wow your amazing. Thank you so much for sharing this. My best friend and son are in wheelchairs.❤❤❤❤
This is incredible, I found this for building something for dogs who are difficult to work with and possibly dangerous for certain reasons. I hope to help them safely be able to get the treatments they need without injury to themselves or the humans. Thank you so much!
Hey bob it’s currently 2:40 am my father has ALS. My mother is his care taker. He had an accident and she required my help to get him up so she can clean him. As I was helping I kept thinking there has to be a way where I can have a pulley of some sort to help with a task such as this. So I came to UA-cam. Thank you so much for this video and for helping ppl in this situations. This video is a few years old yet I see in the comments some 6years ago,2years, few months, and now me commenting in 2024. You’re helping so many ppl still. Bless you.

Great that it works...but the main concern i'll say is the safety aspect i.e. how sturdy is the hanging mechanism & pulling wire cable ? If something snaps what fail safe mechanism are there ? Have to agree those commercially available systems are ridiculously expensive, it certainly appears those people selling those 'officially endorsed' systems like to make a great killing by asking wildly inflated prices as if to 'not lose out' by capitalising on the mis-fortunes of others who really need such aids ?!
When you get up you force others awake with all the racket. Genius!! Then as long as they are up they can make breakfast 😂.
Wow amazing
Thank you so much for your videos I've been watching them for a while.😊 My son at 8 was struck with ALDwhich is basically ALS that hits little boys. He had a bone marrow transplant and he's in remission but a late diagnosis left him complete Care in as you say no muscle strength at all although he can move when he stretches. I have used your videos to modify so many things Even in our camper van.
Awesome Bob, I was going through lots of videos and saw yours. Hope you're doing well. I had Polio and am getting older. Nothing available seems to address staying independent. What you can find is outrageously priced as you seem to address in your video. Thanks for sharing, it will help so many with your and other afflictions that the medical handicap industry does not concern itself with. They primarily focus on just the mass market to rake in the $$$$ instead of helping us outliers. Great inspiring video! PS, it's an old video, 6yrs, I truly hope you are still doing well. God Bless and keep on pushing forward.
My man! Never give up! Never surrender!
Thank you
Very clever ideas. Where did you purchase the tubular steel stair harness that appears to be good for toileting as well?
Its' good. Ok.
Thanks very much for sharing
Where can you buy the independent body lifter that you sit on?
I love it when people come up with alternatives! This may not be the ultimate... but it's inspiring! Impressive work!
Incredible beautiful
Bless u
can u give equipment use for this
Great work man ! May i have a question for you, Did you have to adapt the controller (BT SYSTEM) ? Cos i own the same type of motors (winch) but the controller has a wire and it's not comfortable to me.
That is genius
Amazing!
That winch looks very unstable.
I laughed with you when you got to the upstairs chair. Great innovation. Looks like it does the job, but it looks like the support cable has, already, worn through the insulation on the wire. Hope you were able to remedy.
Brilliant!!!!!!
He’s literally rappelling upwards…. Like Batman. Thank goodness for the engineer
Thank you 😊😊😊 🌅🌅🌅
Brilliant!
Instead of wasting several thousand dollars on a lift that requires an aide (human) to use, I just purchased 2 pulleys and a winch. Turns out they make winches with remote controls. Thank you for this video. What you created is brilliant!
This is the first lift I have looked at that does not require an aide. I am thinking to adapt your idea to my circumstances.
you game me lot of ideas for my child, thank you.
Very clever.
Scary unsafe
You are fabulous, man! Wonderful videos.
Doesnt look very comfy ..but hey if it works.
So unsafe
Are you qualified to make that call?
Pls show me more about your outdoor lift
Nice diy projects
why he didnt lift with the chair ????

فكرة جميلة جدا جدا.......ههههههه احد السودانين مر من هنا
Perfect for coming home late at night after leaving the pub to wake everyone up
I'm a night owl, first thing I thought of.... :)
😝😝😝
Wow this is genius
BUY A MOBILITY ELEVATOR YOU CAN USE WITH YOUR CHAIR. that thing is just not safe.
you would have to have the upper body strength to hang on...
Hello, you remind me a lot of me. There is a bunch of stuff I have built over my life. I also use a strap to transfer. Mine attaches to a spreader bar. I find it is destroying my shoulders. Maybe a should try one without a spreader bar like yours. This way there would be more friction against my body and potentially hurt less. Engineers are great, arn't we? ;)
