Everglades National Park // Backcountry Boat Tour // Cross Country Cruisin' Day 17
Thanks for joining me on my Cross Country Cruisin' adventure! It's the final day of my trip before heading onto the Norwegian Pearl for SS Neverender (see video from that cruise here: bit.ly/OAUcruises). On Day 17, I headed to Everglades National Park with Rusty at the very bottom of Florida. Spoiler: there were a lot of mosquitos and I would not go back.

wait till you get to the sierra's and see a real dream
Did you hear about any spooky story?
Omg i want to go there. Man I would dance with the characters when they dance to day o. I love that song
It's so fun!! And the characters are amazing. They really did a fantastic job with it.
Wow where s that?😀😃😃😃
Ovation Hollywood. Where the Sweet candy store used to be!
Are you Excited? Are you Excited? Let me ask you one more time, are you excited?!
Lol. At the time, we were very excited. Unfortunately, we've seen some safety issues with the Caravel, so we're looking to possibly trade this in and upgrade to a model with 4 tires (instead of the 2 on the smaller trailers).
Did you get to the bar on your rail bike? Was the ride back dark and hard to see? Thanks
Yes, we took the rail bikes 😊 It was dark on the way back, but they provide a light on the bike. That and they try to keep the entire group together, so it's not hard to see at all. It was actually more light than I would have preferred.
@@pinkhathiker thank u!
👋💖
💗
That is a great campsite. Just look at that view. You are going to finds stuff out about your camper as you travel in it. Either way, have fun with it and use it often. Best of luck, and thank you for sharing.
Yes, the campground is amazing! We've been back one since this trip :) Definitely recommend!!
Don’t forget to repack your bearings every 3,000 miles!
Someone just mentioned this to me and I had no idea about it! Thank you for the heads up :) It's appreciated.
@@pinkhathiker - The “entry level” less expensive Airstreams don’t have never-lube hubs. If you’re lucky yours will have a Zerk, that’s a fitting that looks like a nipple you connect a grease gun to add grease to the bearings. If not, you’ll need to repack them which is WORK. Remove the wheel, then the bearing housing, grease them, reassemble and remount the tire, repeat for each wheel.
Manual in Sport 22 calls for bearing repack every 10,000 miles or every 12 Months. It's not that big a deal. I won't be doing mine every year. I think every 10K or three years, whichever comes first will be more realistic for this only occasional camper.
We had Airstream Los Angeles do this for us. And after the service was completed, one of the wheels came off; snapped the lugs clean (that's how my husband described it)!!
@@pinkhathiker - Yikes! Hope there wasn’t serious damage!
Are the stars visible during the ride? It seems cool at first but then ride back could be a waste since you don't see anything.
Yeah, you can definitely see stars out!
Star Trek
Nice! Everyone I know likes one or the other. It's either Star Wars or Star Trek!
The t-shirt in your thumbnail pulled me in. Lol. It's been a long time since I heard their music! Love the Airstream, and your daughter's reaction is priceless! Lots of fun ahead for sure.
Yeah, they're awesome! I had to get the shirt because I thought it was funny that I was surrounded by a bunch of "elder emos" watching them play who listened to them in high school. Even though The Silence in Black and White came out long after I graduated HS. Lol.
Hi! I have the Caravel 20fb. Your Dometic AC unit has a heat pump setting. Press the MODE button on your control panel until you see HP. That’s the heat pump and it runs off electricity (not propane) through your ducted ceiling. Just set your desired temp (just as you would with the AC), it works flawlessly and you wont need your space heater. The furnace uses propane and in my opinion gets way too hot for our 20’ trailers. I never use it.
Thanks for the tip! We've actually used it. But when it's 20 degrees outside, it doesn't do much to heat up the interior unless you have another heat source. We camped in the snow up in Lone Pine for Christmas last year and were so happy to have that little space heater!
You make a beautiful Bride how is the airstream going
Thank you so much! Airstream has been sitting unused the last few months because campsites are all sold out. We are hoping to take it out again in September!
Found them - thanks!!!❤
Where are your links to Amazon for some of the products you purchased? Love this video - just bought one and picking it up today - same size as yours - yippee!!!
CONGRATULATIONS!!! I hope you make lots of great memories in yours too 😊 And glad you found the links.
Great videos. Can't wait to go back to Yellowstone. Being from the East coast it takes some planning. I just Subscribed and I guess I made subscriber # 200! ☺
Thanks for the sub! 😊
Vvhy they manufacturized low quality one for americans ?? And vvhy the heck they let foreigners such as p0rche ( *-gernn-an g3n3va netvvorx* ) infiltrated their line of marketing & origin🇺🇸lity
WOW what a really nice place, and clean too!!!!
Yeah, it was! We were really impressed with the entire space. And the food is so good!! Hoping to go back again this week and try another spot.
My bf and I are doing our first backpacking trip! Tahroe rim loop here we come! I'm so nervous but so excited. Thanks for posting this. Helps me build confidence ❤
Have the best time out there!!
Awesome RV
Thanks! I love it.
Excellent review. I've been thinking of upgrading to an airstream. You are the first person in a review to talk about the temperature of the windows and walls. I live in Florida and have wondered about those windows when it gets extremely hot as well as the walls. I know that in my current trailer which does not have many windows it can be a blessing because of the extreme heat. It's a shame that in many of the reviews of the trailer people complain about the rivets and some people know how to put them back in. I don't understand why this is such an issue with the product. Thanks again and have a wonderful day!
I know when you first take a trailer out, the rivets can come out just from the road shake. But I'm hopeful after those few that popped out, the rest will stay put. Airstream does put them back in for you, no problem though. And yeah, the temperature of the walls is definitely something I'm surprised more Airstream owners don't talk about. The trailer itself stays pretty comfortable in the varying temperatures....until you touch the side lol.
Hi! Great video! I’ve been asking but not getting any answers. The National Parks are requiring filming permits from people in order to post their videos on UA-cam or they will fine you. I want to film my vacation this year and post it. Can you tell me how hard it was to get yours? How much it costs? What the process is, how to do it? Do you have to present it to UA-cam before posting your video? Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks.
😂🤣😂🤣Also I KNEW I remembered you! I watched your honeymoon videos on Yellowstone as well! Congratulations and glad you got to go back! I enjoyed those videos too! I like your narration. It adds to what the viewer sees and informs. Very nice and please keep returning and filming! 😁
Hey there! So from what I know, filming permits are only required for commercial shoots. If you're just filming your family vacation for UA-cam, I think you should be ok. My channel isn't monetized, so it's not commercial and no permit was needed. Hope that helps! And thanks for watching. I look forward to seeing your videos once they're up 😊
@@pinkhathiker yeah it’s a real mess. I’m sure they don’t need the extra work load approving a bunch of permits for simple vacationers posting videos on UA-cam. I hear it’s already going back through the courts and expected that they won’t be required for UA-camrs in 2024 but unfortunately, it looks like I may be caught in between for 2023. Thanks for the tip and congrats again on the marriage and your guys return trip to Yellowstone & the Tetons. It’s my favorite place on earth and I do enjoy your videos! 😉 Moose Anderson
Looks like a great time with your kids! We didn't get a chance to camp at Joshua Tree last time, but definitely adding it to our list. Thanks for sharing your experience! New subscriber from Hawaii :)
Hi! Yes, definitely add it to your list. There is nothing like the Joshua Tree backcountry. Bonus, you don't have to fight anyone for a camping spot hehe. Just subscribed back! Happy trails.
The 20 foot Caravel has much more counter space.
Yes, it does. But it also has a smaller bed. We figured we'd be doing less cooking, and more sleeping in the space, so we opted for the larger bed with that rational. Now that I'm actually in it, I'm second guessing that decision.
Truly a grand place, all of Yellowstone, a treasure for all!!!
It really is. I cannot wait until I can go back again!
Yeah!amazing !Pink,
:)
I can think of better beach state parks than Carpinteria....sardine camping.
Yeah, I'm sure there are. But we made the reservations VERY last minute (so it was all that was available along the entire SoCal coast) and made the best of it. Had a great time!!
Fantastic. The look on her face took me back almost exactly 50 years ago when my dad bought the family a new ‘73 Airstream. Lots of fun ahead for your family.
Oh, I love that!! Thank you for sharing that memory with us. We are so looking forward to all the memories we're going to create as well.
Tell Rusty Patrick from waterpolo says hi!
Patrick! Rusty says hi as well. :)
Awesome video!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. :) Love your channel. Just subscribed!
Once you have the windows open.. maybe run sone silicon dressing on the rubber seals. That would probably prevent them from sticking and treat them at same time
I'll talk to Airstream about that. Wouldn't want to do anything that could potentially void the warranty. I've already had one window seal replaced since I got it.
Pro tip: galley.. not a kitchen
Noted!
Creepy accents. Disturbing
It's not for everyone lol. But we like it! We're emo kids at heart. :)
Given enough time, enough screws will come off so whatever was being held in place by them will fall off.. then you’ll know where the screws came from lol. . Check the door hinges… that probably where the screws came off from. It’s happend to other airstream owners. Rivers will continue to come out. Dont know why the heck they dont do the rivets right. But yeah.. that’s all a sign your camper is coming apart.
I'm not too worried about it. Airstreams are made pretty well. And things come out on the maiden voyage. I've talked to enough other Airstream owners who had the same issue that I'm not too alarmed about it atm. If it persists, then yeah, I'll be worried.
LA TRAFFIC ? YOU ARE LITERALLY ALMOST A HUNDRED MILES AWAY FROM LA. 🤣 SAN BERNARDINO IS NO WHERE NEAR LA TRAFFIC
I was literally driving FROM the San Fernando Valley TO Idylwild. And, having grown up in the Inland Empire, I can tell you there is still plenty of traffic in San Bernardino ;)
San Bernardino is only 60 miles from LA. There is a ton of traffic on both the 10 and 60 freeways.
Try reducing your tire pressure to absorb more road bounce. If you are inflating the tires to their max cold psi your trailer will bounce a lot and cause the stove grates to pop off.
Ooo, that is actually really great advice!! I appreciate it. Thanks for sharing :)
@@pinkhathiker you’re welcome. Try running them at 60 psi.
Best window trick is to use a plastic straw (we use a tough Sonic straw 😂) with our Airstream to slide under edges to easily break the seal that forms in heat. It’s very easy and doesn’t risk a scratch or chipping credit card. Straw will bend.
Love that! Thanks for the tip. The whole credit card thing made me nervous when the Airstream folks told us to try that.
Love the inside the sink door paper towel holder . It’s nice that you don’t have to drill any holes for it .
That's my favorite thing about it too :)
Thanks for the review . I am trying to figure out which caravel will work best for just my husband and I . My thoughts on your food prep area are as follows . 1. Can you prep out on picnic table or small table outside weather permitting? 2. Maybe just have daughters bed be a bed at night after last meal has been prepared ? Just my humble offerings as a mother of 6 and grandmother to 17.
We will definitely plan to use a picnic table (if available) once it warms up. It's been so cold where we've been camping that it's not feasible to do any prep or cooking outside. But I am very much looking forward to warmer weather when I can :) For the bed, that's the plan in the future. Ours actually had a defect that is being repaired now in the telescoping feature. Now that it's being fixed, it should make it a lot easier to transition from bed to table! If you have an Airstream dealer near you, I definitely recommend going and seeing the different floorplans first. They feel so different in person than they do just looking online. We had been looking at a few models (including the Bambi), and seeing the 22fb Caravel really sealed the deal for me. Which is surprising because going in I wasn't even interested in the Caravel because I didn't think the upgrades were worth the price until I saw it. Good luck with your search, and an early welcome to the Airstream family!
This is lovely my friend, shots are breathtaking here! 👌👌
Thanks :) It's really hard to get any bad shots while in Sedona. The whole area is just breathtaking.
Bankette? Trying so hard to figure out what you said but I have no idea.
Hi Jason! Yes, a banquette (I'm assuming it's French, but that's really just a guess haha). Google's definition is: a seat or bench which is specially designed to fit into a space, typically running along a wall. :)
Love your review! I have the same Caravel and had my Dad make a wood cover/counter to put over my stovetop when I’m not using it, so I can use it for extra counter space when not cooking and also it keeps the stovetop from collecting dust so much. :) I learned the hard way leaving the grates on it too while traveling. I also don’t leave anything in the microwave when traveling because I’ve scratched it. Have never had shower leaking issues with mine so hopefully they can resolve that for you! I also highly recommend a protective breathable mat/layer under your mattress to prevent condensation and mold. Amazon sells great options. Condensation is a beast if you don’t keep it under control esp in cold temps. Happy travels! Airstreams are great though. :)
Omg, these are all wonderful recommendations Hannah! Thank you so much. I really appreciate the feedback, especially on the mattress. I'm not only an Airstream noob, but I'm also new to RVs in general, and will happily take all the advice. :) My Caravel is with Airstream right now for it's initial maintenance visit. While there they discovered that the shower door was not properly installed. So that should hopefully be fixed when I get it back. Fingers crossed.
@@pinkhathiker You’re so welcome! I’m a noob too and learning as I go. ;) You will find that there are many little things you can learn to fix on your own as you go. I’ve learned a lot from other UA-cam AS owners as well as on the AS forum. Glad your shower is fixed! :)
Welcome to the Airstream Club!
Thanks! Looks like you got yours around the same time we picked up ours. Congrats!! Just gave you a follow. Looking forward to seeing your Airstream adventures.
Take that stupid mask off your child .
Have fun, just an fyi, keep the brake wire attached to trailer. It is really light weight and can disapper. We wrap ours around frame until née to attach to touch again.
Thanks for the heads up on that! I will definitely start wrapping it around the frame.
thank you for the review!!!
My pleasure. Thanks for watching 😊
Thank you for sharing my favorite things. 😀
You're welcome kiddo!!
Great tent! Well done. New follower here. Crow✌️
Thanks Crow! I've given a follow back. :)
How much you bought it
The price depends on a lot of things, including location. But you can find the base prices for each model on the Airstream dealer's websites. :)
