Ryan's Daughter A Bit of a Fillum, ( Part 1 )
Loved this movie i was 19 yrs old
Eu era uma adolescente sonhadora em 1970. E quando assisti o filme naquele ano, eu fiquei literalmente apaixonada por Christopher Jones. Eu sonhava com ele quase todos os dias. Coisas de adolescente.
I'm a German citizen, but even my English knowledge is quite good I've problems with some special terms. What means "Fillum" exactly? "Movie theatre" as suggested in reverso isn't suitable. Paul Benedict Rowan used it also in his book "Making of Ryan's Daughter". In the mentioned book he uses the expression "Brock's Benefit (fireworks display)" a term that describes an orgasm with other words to my understanding. Thank you for your assistance!
A fillum is the way some Irish people pronounce film
Fillum is film

Man! So glad you did this awesome video...thank you
Christopher Jones the best.
Chris Jones didn't have to speak. His presence said it all. Great actor.
I saw it 13 times!
How can to see the Full movie for "Ryan's daughter" Not only for Part 1,or2、please!
Went to see it with my friend john mills was beyond excellent as were all the cast although the scenery wasnt too bad lol❤🎉
I knew a Priest very like the Trevor Howard in this film!
Robert Mitchum was a magnificent man, and many don't know he was as gifted a writer as he was actor. Google his poetry - it's wonderful! I love Sarah Miles, she's such a fantastic raconteur when recalling peers like Mitchum and Robert Shaw, now sadly gone. She brings them back to life with her vivid recollections - and she always describes them with fondness, as well as truth. I think it would be quite something to know Sarah Miles. A lovely woman and a superb actress.
A fascinating insight into a fabulous film.
Es una gran película, como otras de David Lean . La he visto muchas veces y se la mostré a mi hija en su momento...y ahora a mi nieta
Much enjoyed! Thank you for posting.
Best film every made.. The music, story line, acting and chosen actors - still touch my heart today. So sad to think just the school house remains. I've never seen a film which has this effect on me. Hate to say I have one choreography error. In the woods ( first love scene) something has been left in the background that should not be there.. Believe me it takes some finding.
Loved this beautiful picture ! Thank you Sir David Lean, A Brilliant Film Director !
They've let the school deteriorate. There will soon be nothing left
I see all the timber and stone callings to the garden walls have gone now - just the masonry shell survives. I guess no one is interested in looking after film props… bit sad given the scale and magnificence of Lean’s achievement there.
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
real shame that the local land owners were not able to agree about the village, and in the end it gets flattened by bulldozers, an opportunity to create a tourist attraction which would have boosted the area, the beginning of this documentary states that there was not much going on in the area and people had very little money, but a film company hands the locals an opportunity on a plate and they fail to grasp it because they are too busy arguing about who should benefit most......that is quite frustrating.
The ejits.
What makes me sad is that no one even mentions Trevor Howard, who steals the movie and gives by far the most powerful performance.
It's all the more impressive when you know that Howard's legendary boozing made Robert Mitchum look like a teetotaller!
One of the most beautiful films ever made!
Could be an episode of 27 Up!
The best ever director, David Lean. And this is his dearest film for me. Watched it over ten times... Love from Greece.
This was a brilliant film. The scenery showing the wild seas and the harsh weather was excellently filmed. The human side of the story was rather understandably predictable, where marriage is shown as the imperfect institution humans have ever made. One has to accept that the instincts and emotions, once they raise their heads, no conditional teachings and culture can control them. Every character in the film seems to win some compassion towards the particular physical and mental state depicted. The accompanying music is so effective.
Thank you so much for this - my father played Ryan in Ryan's Daughter and I lived in Dingle for 6 months as a child and watched the filming nearly every day. Amazing memories!
Thank YOU so much for taking the time to comment Abigail, yes one of the great movies directed by the acclaimed David Lean with a great cast, including your Father the legendary Leo McKern..
Your father was a wonderful actor: I will always remember him as Number Two in "The Prisoner". 🙂😊
@@trevormoses5061 Thank you Trevor - yes, there is still a Prisoner Appreciation Society that meet in "The Village" in Wales every year (well, before Covid anyway)
Loved him in "Help." He must have had some good stories! Love, a 70-year old Beatlemaniac!
And his line in "Help." "It's a very real problem. I say that all the time!
I loved this documentary. I know Dingle well & the people of West Kerry are wonderful warm hospitable folk.
The storm scene was done on loop head in Co Clare, it's not documented much though
Loved that
Dunquin is a magnificent place. I’ve been lucky enough to to spend a good bit of time there. My host and friends and I go into Dingle town to the pubs, Dick Mack’s is a favorite, but sure there isn’t one of the 52 pubs I wouldn’t be fond of, each with its own personality, it’s own rhythm and flavor, all with its perfect pint. Out on the the other side of Dunquin is Ballyferriter and Tig Bhric, one of the most beautiful pubs I’ve ever spent time in - for its people and music. I must tell you, Ryan’s Daughter is a fillum I’ve never seen but I’m obsessed with it. I’ve heard many stories from the local people about the carry on and the film’s impact on the lives and livelihoods personally and as a community. I could probably write a book about it but I’d rather encourage anyone to visit the place themselves and get the story first hand. Don’t ask them about it and they’ll tell you.
David lean is so great.the movie is great.
Me gustaría verla completa!!!!Hace mas de 40 años la ví!!!!
Same here. Just saw it on St. Patrick's Day on the big screen. SO worth it! And worth living in Boston.
@@leighcochran7303 Ryan's Daughter is one of my favorite films. David Lean was such a magnificent director. The cinematography was just incredible. The opening with the red sky and the time it took to catch the perfect scenes of the storm surge and the clouds and mist forming over the mountains, when Father Hugh says, " you'd think they were announcing the coming of Christ". The music stays with me all the time. And the performance of John Mills was brilliant. Michael was probably the most redeeming character in the movie. Sarah Miles should have gotten the Academy Award, I think, even though Glenda Jackson was brilliant as well in Women In Love. Probably the movie"s reception played a part in that. But all the leads were excellent. Even Christopher Jones had his moments. But his behavior towards Sarah Miles during the love scenes was unforgivable. Any normal man would have been dazzled to have those scenes with the lovely Sarah Miles. Just a beautiful movie, despite what some critics say. It was on TCM this past March 12, and I recorded it. I hadn't seen it for so long. I must have watched it 100 times since!
Oi, por favor, alguém saberia como consigo ver esse filme novamente na internet?
Would like to see part 2please we’ve been to that place wonderful we love Ireland it’s what we need in times like these thank you.Peace to you all.🦠🦠🦠🦠🦠🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈☘️☘️☘️☘️💚💚💚
very interesting! I*m a huge R. Mitchum fan so it is very exciting for me to watch the making of Ryan's D. Lots of thanks for uploading.
Beautiful♥️🥰
Seeing it again recently, I found the film enjoyable, the photography/scenery wonderful. A classic to be enjoyed in contrast to many films today.
best one ever , sad that it wasnt appreciated at the time ,you have to watch several times tho to really get the feel for it
Me gustaria verla, pero no esta completa.....
A fantastic film with a really great cast of actors, coupled with breath taking scenary and a fabulous music score.
I wish him well but I hope wherever he goes the fans expect no loyalty. He had a chance to build a decent team and, with hard work, become a Leeds Legend. He's made the choice not to and will likely go to the PL. Only fans are loyal to the team, no one else.
Johnny Giles 😍😍😍😍😍😍
nice
Thanks for sharing. I visit Dun Chaoin every chance I get. The local guys make this great.
