How to Find the Equation of a Line: Examples and Easy Steps
Learn how to find the equation of a line in slope-intercept form, point-slope form, and standard form by exploring each method and solving example problems.
Slope-Intercept Form: y = mx + b
This form emphasizes the slope (m) and the y-intercept (b) of the line.
Point-Slope Form: y - y₁ = m(x - x₁)
This form is deal when you know a point on the line (x₁, y₁) and the slope (m), or when you know two points on the line.
Standard Form: Ax + By = C
Commonly used in algebra, this form offers a clear way to represent the equation of a line.

Honestly, whenever I had difficulty with an issue in math, I would often watch someone solving a similar math problem on UA-cam to try and memorize the methodology for solving the kinds of problems I was wrestling with. All of which takes time and practice. Growing up I would often say I was bad at math, but perhaps - to nuance it a bit - what would be more accurate is that it would often take me a longer time to memorize patterns than my peers. What are some unique memorization tools that one can use when trying to learn a new mathematical technique?
Thank you for sharing your experience! It’s so true that learning math often takes time and practice, and everyone has their unique pace. Here are some tools that may help: Visualization Tools: Use diagrams and visual aids to help see the problem differently. Tools like Geogebra or Desmos can be very helpful. Flashcards: Create flashcards for key formulas and concepts. Apps like Anki or Quizlet use spaced repetition to enhance memorization. Mnemonic Devices: Develop mnemonics or acronyms for complex concepts. For example, "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally" for the order of operations. Practice Problems: The more you practice, the better you get. Try solving a variety of problems to recognize patterns. Peer Study Groups: Discussing problems with peers can expose you to different problem-solving methods and reinforce your understanding. Teaching Others: Explaining concepts to someone else can reinforce your understanding and highlight any gaps in your knowledge. Everyone has the potential to succeed in math with the right tools and mindset. Keep exploring and practicing, and you'll find what works best for you!

Using sine and cosine functions is a great approach too! There are two ways to teach this concept - start with a unit circle approach (the one I choose) or start with a right triangle approach (the way you are thinking about it). On Monday, 4/15, at 3:00 pm EST I have a video coming out, "How to Evaluate Trigonometric Functions of a Real Number", that describes points on the unit circle using sine and cosine functions.
