This is a good test, but outdated. The original video was published by NCIX in 2009. Even though wired ethernet connection is still the most reliable and fastest, both wireless and powerline have gotten much better since this video was made. As such republishing it 5 years later is giving people outdated information. Please, consider adding a disclaimer about the age of this video.

This is a very fair assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of the various alternatives. There is little doubt that an actual ethernet cable system will always give the best results but the powerline comes close second. I live in an old sandstone house with my router on the ground floor and my laptop in the basement at the back of the house. The wifi signal in the basement was very unreliable. The costs and practicalities of fitting a cable connection through the house, including an internal stone wall, ruled this possibility out - so powerline has been an ideal solution. I am not technically minded in the least. but I had the adapters out of the box and connected in a matter of minutes. No software or complicated procedures required - it is literally plug and play. You can, if you wish, make the network secure by pressing the encryption buttons although I have not bothered to do so as no one else has access to my house wiring. For best results always plug the powerline adapter straight into a wall socket and not into a power strip as this may slow down your connection. I have found powerline to be a great boon.
