What to do when you experience loss of power and see ECE code 157.01, 1569.31 & ICC code 2818.31 on you John Deere 5 Series Utility Tractor. These are fuel related codes and usually point to a colgged fuel filter. There is also a screen in the fuel tank that can cause similar issues. My 5075E is older than yours and it’s on the other side but I filled the new filter with diesel before screwing it on. Cranked tractor and pulled throttle lever up high. I did not have to reprime anything
Each wheel has a grease point at the brake. Just got done greasing mine and found that at the end. Couldn't get my grease tip on them, unfortunately. I don't want to take the wheel off to grease it, so I'm going to go get 90° fittings from the store tomorrow and replace them on each wheel. Thanks for the video!
Could just buy a 90 degree head for your grease gun.
Have to install a shut off value. Fuel flowing is a pain and a waste. Valve is easy to install in fuel line.
My John Deere 5045e only holds 2 gallons of oil, but the book said 3 gallons, why?
Straight to the point! Doing this on our 2019 5055e this weekend. Just for the record, John Deere recommends the first oil change at 100 hours, not 250! 100 hours is when you are supposed to change from the break in plus oil to the regular Plus 50 II oil.

Thanks, last oil place I went to charged me $100 after moving to a new town and I'm pretty sure they didn't actaully chnage it. Finally made me decide to learn how to do it myself. This was very helpful!
How many miles since your last oil change? I ask because I'm wondering how long it takes to look the color of the old oil although I understand color is not the best way to judge.
That was a 5000 mile oil change.

Thanks for the info I have a 2022 5055e and the fuel gelled up on me I am having a heck of a time getting the separator to seal back to new filter put new rubber washers with a dab of oil rubbed around them.
There should be two rubber seal rings. One goes between the filter and the separator bowl. The other goes between the bowl and the black art with the drain. I’ve changed mine several times and haven’t had trouble getting it to seal.
Bro.. u didn't show the process, did u have to unplug the wire to unscrew the plastic piece on the bottom? Today I got the little red lock on the plug to unlock, but had to leave b4 I could figure out the next step. Couldn't get it to unplug. Thot u was fixin to show me the way.

What is your filter # I have the same type I want to order my tractor one online since I’m a hour and a half away from my dealer and they won’t give me the part # my original is covered in green paint can’t see a #

I have the same type filter you have. What is the part number. The only one I can find doesn't have the glass bowl and slips up inside the mount and uses a retainer ring to hold it on.

Check the screen in your Fuel Tank, it might need changing also
That is another weak spot with this model.
Does the clear bowl fill up on it own?
It should fill up. If it is slow to do so or doesn’t at all you have a blockage of some sort. Most likely culprit is there is a screen type filter inside the fuel tank that will easily develop algae that prohibits flow. John Deere recommends removing and adding an inline filter between the tank and the filter in the video.
One thing you can do. Is punch a hole in the bottom of the oil filter and let it drain in your pan. Then there's no mess threading it out ;)

I suppose 5w30 semi synthetic or conventional oil works just fine. I got the 2018 sr now at 90k miles. It just keeps running like new, I reckon it will last 250k miles at least before it breaks apart.
Gee. That makes me feel better as so many people on UA-cam are telling me the transmission won't last. I have a 2023 Kicks, one year old. My manual says it takes synthetical not conventional oil.
@@Jan96106 Change the transmission oil at 60k miles . You should also replace the spark plugs at 100k miles. I already passed on my 2018 kicks SR to my youngest daughter and she loves it. It runs like new still. It's at 130k miles now.
A small thing a notice changing mine, the washer, a small metal, looks more like a copper kind of washer, at the drain bolt, I made a research and ask a few mechanics about, if you feel the need to replace it..Do it but there's no big deal if you don't. I always do the "fiil the filter 1st." And dab a little around the rubber ring. 👍🏾 good job
It is a copper crush washer, and the manual says to change it every time, so it doesn't break.
