Stories, Dreams, and Tuskegee with Robert Constant
Robert Constant works in higher education fundraising by day, but his side passion is writing children’s books. He is the published author of two children’s books, "Hey, Tuskegee!" and "Hello, Grandma!, "both of which have spent time on Amazon’s bestsellers lists for their category. Robert talks with me about how your creative dream may change your life-and it may change someone else’s, too; that you don’t have enough energy because you’re not doing your creativity, not the other way around; and the fact that it has never been easier for most people to follow their creative dreams than it is right now.
Join us for Make Bad Art starting on January 20 and get 2025 off to a fresh creative start! Details at MakeBadArtCourse.com.

Creative Pep Talk #96: Follow Your Energy
Переглядів 1414 годин тому
When there are a lot of things you could work on, which one do you choose? My answer is always the same, and very simple, though it's not always obvious or easy to follow thanks to the way a lot of us are taught: follow your energy! I explain why and why ignoring the call of that energy can undermine us over time in this short episode. If you'd like to stay up to date on things like my courses ...
Stop Holding Yourself Back: Embrace Your Imperfection

I recently sat down with my dear friend, author Cindy Lynn Speer, to talk about perfectionism and how it seeps into us through the culture in insidious ways we don't even recognize and how it affects us in similarly sneaky ways. We also talked about how making bad art can help us undo those lessons and free us from the voices of the inner critics that have been installed in our heads so we can ...

You Cannot Mess This Up with Amy Weinland Daughters

Freelance writer Amy Weinland Daughters mostly wrote about college football until she decided to try her hand at, in her words, “a hilarious time travel novel.” That novel, You Cannot Mess This Up: A True Story That Never Happened, turned out to be a catharsis, giving her a whole new look at her childhood and her family. It’s gone on to win the Silver Winner for Humor in the 2019 Foreword INDIE...

We've also been told that art is drawing or painting. It's hard to find art or creative inspiration and self-help stuff that focus only on those kinds of arts.

@@fycuriosityAs an accountant for 30 years I was constantly creating cleaner, more efficient ways to move data around. It was an extremely rewarding, creative part of my work that I miss very much now that I'm retired. I make glass beads now and try to sell them, either singly or as jewelry. I am always creating creatively, it's just my art is never drawing or painting so people don't use the word art to describe what I do. It's hard to find art self-help texts that aren't just about pencil and paper or paint and canvas. Know what I mean?

@@threecatsdancing I know exactly what you mean. There's a reason why I asked my cousin the forensic accountant to come on the show--I knew there had to be a creative side (and not the stuff people joke about!). We don't talk enough about everyday creativity that's not limited to the arts, when in fact, that kind of creativity is EVERYWHERE. This is also why too many people believe they're not creative, which is just criminal.

Blink is by far one of the most frightening episodes ever made. You hear tales of little kids in England hiding behind their sofas to watch Doctor Who because of how scary they found it; the Weeping Angels are so awful they make adults want to hide behind the couch! 🫣

You're not wrong--I wanted to hide behind the couch after I watched it, and flinched when I saw some angel-type statues shortly after! It's an amazing episode.

Very wise words, Nancy, and it's so true - as with so much in life getting the right balance is key. I love your analogy of chaos and control being two horses and that we have to let each 'have its head' sometimes but also rein them in. Thank you for such a helpful talk.

That made me cackle when he said he said he couldn’t remember the Much Ado about Nothing. At Pensacon during the Doctor Who movie panel, a lady from the audience asked him if he had been part of a singing group called The McGanns and he’s like Absolutely not 😂😂. He’s on the cd cover and you can hear him singing on it so that’s pretty hilarious. That’s what that made me think of haha!

    • @fycuriosity
      @fycuriosity Рік тому

He’s so funny. But I also misremembered that as an actual show when I am pretty sure it was more of a concept album, so possibly more easily forgotten. A couple of the tracks are on YT, though, if you want to hear them!

@@fycuriosity He’s got a few conventions lined up! I told him he should come to Kentucky for our con that’s about 2 hours away from me haha!!! He’s scheduled again for the Long Island Who that you guys mentioned in the interview but it’s the one in August!! I sure hope you get that one year later follow up! I got to visit with him all 3 days of the con in Pensacola but it wasn’t nearly long enough at all haha!!! May or may not have forgot everything I wanted to talk to him about lol.

I didn’t realize he was going to Pensacon until after it was over-I have to say, Eccleston made that one mighty tempting (though I also didn’t realize just how big that con is until I was looking at the list last week!). LIWho great, but much smaller-which has its advantages since you really can go talk to the guests without waiting in huge lines. If you decide to come, let me know!

@@fycuriosity Girl, I am dying to come to that one!! Where we have already taken our big family trip by going to Pensacon this year, I’m not sure if we will be able to just yet. Yeah, Pensacon is awesome but I know I felt like I needed to rush my visits with everybody cause I hate people having to wait in line behind me for anything lol. It is a huge convention but it was an absolute blast!! I got to see all the Doctor who guests and visit with them every day but Eccleston was only there that Saturday so I knew he would be crazy busy!!! They were all such a joy to talk to.
