Great question. The naming convention for static noise (like pink noise or white noise) is based on the naming convention for visible light. To put it briefly, if you were to take pink noise and convert its power spectrum into visible light; the light would be pink! So, we call it pink noise.

Try counting sheep, just repeat in your head "one sheep", "two sheep" and so on. Once you reach 10,000 sheep you will definitely be asleep.
You may want to avoid caffeine and nicotine after 6 30pm. That'll have that effect. This works for me.
