Satisfactory Tutorial Episode 1: Humble Beginnings
In response to feedback from my Main Bus Tutorial, I've decided to start a new save and make a series of tutorials about the various stages of the game that I think people may be struggling with. This video focuses on the early game, but since for the most part people don't struggle much with this stage, it's pretty much just a list of tips and tricks that some of you will hopefully find useful.

Satisfactory Main Bus Tutorial
Переглядів 151 тис.3 роки тому
I've been trying different ways to get a main bus working in Satisfactory since I started playing it last year with no luck. I've finally come up with something that works for me and wanted to share it with the community in the hopes that it helps others who may also be struggling. Calculators briefly shown in video: u4.satisfactorytools.com/production satisfactory-calculator.com/en/production-...
Dropped a great video and then just dropped off the community. Too bad, this was great.
Phew, great video. Awesome designs. Are you still designing in Satisfactory today, 3 years later? I came back for 1.0 and having fun.
I’ve been playing other games since I made the video. As much fun as I had making the two videos I made, I learned that I would still rather play a game than put the work in to make a decent video about a game. I refuse to release a long unedited mess of a video that only has about 30 useful seconds, but hopefully soon I’ll fire up 1.0 and get a handle on all the new changes and make some more videos.
I find it simpler to have a screw line and insert more screws into the bus wherever the flow rate is dipping.
is it a bad idea to have oil in main bus?
You can do it if it makes sense to you. I personally think oil is a specialized enough factory to be separate from the main one. Another reason is refineries are so big they would take up a ton of bus space.
i know its been a few years since you posted this but I just came across it, and it's helpful!
Glad to hear it!
💯
Really glad this video popped up. I e played over +2000 hours of Satisfactory and I'd just started my first main bus factory (previously I'd always done micro-factories). It's interesting that I'd been gravitating towards a "logical" answer but also clear that some choices I made felt limited and this video proves that. I'm now going to rip out the current belt system completely and design it. It feels slightly painful to do but this IS what the game is about, experimentation. (Unless you want to feel immense pain trying to reach the now new Tier 9!(
3 years later, the return belt is genius addition as if your prepared to make a massive auto-sorter at the end for those returned items, they can be dumped in a Dimensional Depot before *finally* be overflowed to an Awesome sink
how did you build that main bus?
I used the Smart! mod that apparently isn’t available anymore. It came out before the devs added the zoop feature, but it was way better and did more with less work. One of the things it could do was build a long line of six high stackable conveyor poles and belt them together. I remade a bus a few months ago without Smart! and it probably took an hour to do what it took me less than five minutes to do in Smart!
We’re ready for an update now that 1.0 is here
I don't think I fully understand what you're showing at 10:00 So this is the end of the bus and those 4 lanes go into storage and the smart belt loops back to the start/storage/Sink? Do the other lanes simply just come to a stop at the end of the belts?
This is the first starting end of the bus, where all the storage and awesome sink is. All bus belts start at this end and run to the other end. All but the smart belt dead end at the other end. These four items (copper sheets, concrete, plastic and rubber) were made at other factories and brought in on a train. They need to feed the factory as well as end up in storage so it can use them to build things later. The smart belt is the easiest way to do this, but these items are all too high-volume to dump on the smart belt. Instead, I put splitters on those belts and gave each of them a dedicated run to a storage box.
@@StudleyKansas Ohh so those 4 lanes have their own dedicated belt that goes to storage, while the rest go to storage via a Smart Belt? Got it, thanks! Thanks for the response. Great video and I love your bus design!
@@ThysiosX Yep you got it! Glad you got some use out of this thing even if it is a bit out of date!
I could listen to him talk about pipes smart splitters and killing hogs all day. Studley I wish you made more content.
Super cool build! the fast forward was a bit too fast to enjoy watching you build, but I think I get the idea.
Good info, but maybe it's just because I'm somewhat new, I felt like you flew through all of this. Maybe that wasn't the aim of the video, and this one is years old, so forgive me if either you made something that replaced this, or I wasn't the target audience. Thanks regardless, because it gave me ideas for my base. Have a wonderful day.
Am I dumb? It feels like you leave out so much in this video I'm at a complete loss trying to implement this. In the beginning you say to connect the bottom belt to the top belt. What am I supposed to do with the rest of the belts to get them on the smart belt? I dunno, I just feel like this video would have been far more helpful if you didn't just jump past huge parts of the explanation with a sped up portion of video. Some parts of the video you're on a build with pipes, other parts of the video you're on a build with 6 belts. You say "make the top belt the smart belt" but when you route plates off the smart belt for modular frames, you do it off the bottom belt. What am I missing here? Yea, I've wasted like 8 hours trying to figure this out and it would be really fucking nice if you explained how you got the iron ingots onto the smart belt
You're not dumb, and I'm sorry my video made you feel that way!. But to keep the video somewhat short and on topic, I sped past the parts that I felt my target audience would be familiar with and capable of doing themselves. This main bus video isn't really a "here's how to play Satisfactory" video, it's more of a "I have played Satisfactory and know how to run belts and pipes, but it's getting too complicated trying to plan my next factory." After seeing how much people liked this video (along with critiques similar to yours, wishing for something a little slower and more thorough) I decided to start an actual tutorial series, but got burned out after making one more video. I'm hoping to some day get back in the mood and make some more videos that are approachable to people who are newer to the game.
I agree it cuts around a lot and makes it a little hard to follow at times. Sometimes I wasn't 100% sure which way a belt was even going because it looks a bit weird on screen, I guess due to the speed of the belt + FPS not matching up. Other times I wasn't sure which end of the bus they were even at and it was hard to just picture everything in my head because they'd speed up the video and fly around/cut the video. But overall it's still a pretty high quality video. Shame the uploader got burnt out and only uploaded 2 videos.
i have never heard of this before and i'm gonna try it out!
Where did you go? Brother 1.0 is out, get back in the game and show us your genius.
Man I wish you kept making these videos.
Fantastic video, thanks for the tips!
Hope you are motivated to do something with 1.0.
Hey thanks for this helpful video Dude! Fellow Kansas guy here, in Stafford County. Lots of really helpful ideas here. I just (finally) bought Satisfactory about a month ago, and have a "first try" game going to learn how to build end do everything in Satisfactory after years of Factorio, Dyson Sphere, Capt. of Industry, and a brief trip underground in Techtonica. Thanks again for this. Lots of helpful tips here!!
Old video, but I definitely needed to comment on how well this was done!
Want to play a game? Great! Want to become a manufacturing engineer? Even better!
good stuff. More, please!
Love the vid. Question: What about if you need more iron ingots than your belt can carry? Do you "top up" the belt further down, or make a new belt?
Both of those solutions would work fine. You can also design your bus to have a few extra belts in case you run into this or some other unforeseen problem. Also, if you build an underground bus, you can widen it and add more lanes without having to tear down anything you’ve already built.
Everyone's just touching this topic briefly. This is the depth I needed to fully understand the logistics and the reasoning behind this approach. Thanks, Studley, helped a lot!
Thanks for sharing your tips.
I like the way that you calmly explain everything in a very easy to understand way. Thanks for the video, I subscribed instantly!
Underrated video. This is very clear and concise. Thank you
Dude! please make some more videos.
son of a- mister your train line makes me mad I didn't do it myself. Brilliant i'm now mad and want to reinstall this game for the 10th time.
This keeps the brain from going kaboom when trying to figure out logistics, very intuitive!
...So _that's_ what a belt bus is!
BEST VIDEO ABOUT SATISFACTORY EVER
That’s great to hear. Just wish I could get motivated to make some more! Having too much fun playing other stuff.
this is the clearest of all builds ive seen
Spaghetti has been the bane of my existence, great timing I am about to start to rebuild everything as I get to tier 3 on the Space Elevator. I would have loved more information on how you choose what to run on each of the 4 belts ?
Are you talking about the four belts shown at 9:59? If so, those were the only things on my bus that needed to be put in storage that weren't already on the smart belt, and they were too high-volume to be put on the smart belt. So, each of those items is on its own belt on the bus, and I put a splitter on each to keep the storage boxes full while also providing them to factories that need them further down the line. On a related note, at 10:39 you'll see some items that are also too high-volume to be put on the smart belt but still needed to be put in storage, and rather than run a dedicated belt for them I just had one constructor for each and dumped them all on the smart belt return line, this way they don't run all the way to the end of my factory and back, only a short distance from the constructors to the storage containers.
I love your Texas Accent Also thanks for the really helpful tutorial!
Happy to help!
Hello, the video is very good, but it is complicated for me, the automatic subtitles translated into Spanish do not work, I have a question, do the iron bars go to the smart belt? And another question, everything that goes to the smart belt and is not stored, is it just shredded or does it return to the smart belt again? thank you
Sorry for the late reply, I didn’t get a notification for this. Are you asking about iron ingots? If yes, you need so many of those that they can’t go on the smart belt, it would fill up very fast and not work correctly. They will need their own belt, maybe more than one. I store everything that’s still on the smart belt once all my machines are full, and once the storage is full the smart belt ends at the awesome sink to keep it from filling up and also to get tickets.
@StudleyKansas Are you planning on making more videos?
When I circle back around to Satisfactory I'll make some more, I've just been playing other stuff lately.
thumbs up to not putting screws on the bus and just making them locally
Bro what happened to the series? WE NEED MORE
Hey you made some solid videos for the first 2 on your channel. You have an impressive editing style that keeps me entertained even if it doesn't apply to me. One more comment towards the algorithm!
This is by far one of the most helpful videos I've ever found on UA-cam. Thank you so much, really made my Satisfactory experience a lot better. I find myself coming back to this video pretty often.
Goodness this was the best quick start guide that I have seen. Please make a part 2
Bussin
+1 bro it's fire !!
Without doubt, the best and most informative video I've seen for this game
Learning how to be Factorio Engineer in a Satisfactory.
Im from indonesia
He StudleyKansas, you should, if you want to off course, make more videos, this video and the other one you made are one of the better vids I have ever seen on Satisfactory. please make more!!
I really do want to, but I just got sucked into other games and still am not ready to come back to Satisfactory. One day I will, since it’s an awesome game and I love it, but I’m the meantime I’ll be checking out other games.
This really is gold StudleyKansas! You posted this a year ago, any updates to your design?
Thanks! Glad people are still getting value out of it. I have been playing other games since then and haven’t made it back to Satisfactory yet but I definitely will and I’ll have some new videos when I do!
