    Can you provide a 4 year update please? I would like to know if such warranty issues are still problematic. In the USA they claim eBike parts have a 2 year warranty but they do not break down if labor is covered as part of the warranty.

      Eventually the supplying dealer took the bike back, August 2020. So no update on this particular bike and I'll never buy a giant again.. But I must get around to doing a review on the bike that replaced it.

      @@pedallingpete3937 Good to hear they took back. I was looking to buy the new Explore E+ 1 DD 28mph but I can't find any review of the bike on UA-cam. It looks nice and is not too expensive. I will have to wait until I can find out a thorough review somewhere. Otherwise, I will opt for a Specialized or Trek bike - still sticking with legacy brands.

    Positive comments/reviews can be faked but negative comments I’m sure Giant or any other company will never fake. Faking reviews/comments is common practice. This is what I was looking for as a review. Thanks to your review I will not buy this e bike anymore as I was planning to do. Giant should have been offered you a brand new one immediately and not fuss about it as they lost several clients. Now I know they have no warranty basically and very poor customer and other local giant store support. Thank you Pete for your honest review and experience with Giant.

    You actually had better experience than I just did.. I have a hole looks exactly like yours.. tried dart #1.. the little spike thingy the dart sits on immediately broke.. I wondered if the hole was a bit small so widened it a bit as someone suggests below.. tried dart #2.. same thing.. immediately breaks! And I was being especially careful the second time.. :(

    Sounds like you were very unlucky to be sold a lemon! I have two Giant e-bikes, Road E+1 (2017) and Full E+3 (2018). Both have done thousands of kilometres without any problems and I'm very satisfied. For info, the cranks on both bike are FSA brand, which I believe are made by Giant. The chains are expensive E-bike chains made by KMC.

    Put a roughly 6mm gash in my tire this weekend. Pulled out my Dart and experienced the exact same behavior documented in the video. Used both darts, resulting in two pieces of fabric on the ground with the hole still hissing. Fortunately a friend had bacon strips. Put two bacon strips in and got back to riding.

    My impression is that this thing is meant for the larger holes, so your hole there is just too tiny. I've seen lots of users mention this, and your fail here at least give it some credibility. Personally I would not have that tool as a one and only solution. Think I'll have a look at the Effetto Tappabuco instead, as well as having a tube as last resort. The Effetto Tabuco plugs into the bar end and have one tool for big and one for small holes. I feel that is a better solution given you don't know you will always have or use Stans sealant as well.

    • @pedallingpete3937
      @pedallingpete3937 2 роки тому

      pretty much my conclusion was that Stans sealant couldn't seal it alone as the hole was too big, but the dart was for bigger holes, literally creating a gap in the market. Idid use a plug to finally seal it. I also think the WTB tyres had a part to play in the fail.

    Two times I’ve had a puncture on my mountain bike and tried to repair it with Stans darts, failed both times. I tucked the black cloth thing that ripped off into the hole with the pin on the tool like you did with a success, but that takes an awkwardly long time, given that this happened to me in a race… Still probably faster then changing inner tubes though. I would definitely like to see the black cloth staying on the white dart more securely!

    It happens to me yesterday 01/05/2022. Just like this. When i inserted to the tire, the fabric move backwards and there no way to insert the fabric again since the dart head was left inside the tire but the fabric did not go through. So frustrating!!! I think the hole is too small that the fabric cant get in that is why it slipped and moved the fabric backwards from the arrow holder to keep it in place

    I’m starting to wonder if an e-bike is worth the cost and potential problems for the extra power they can give? Your experience makes me think that to get a good reliable e-bike I would need to spend money that could buy me a good fuel efficient motor cycle (Honda 125) plus registration AND a decent reliable non-electric bike? 🤔

    • @pedallingpete3937
      @pedallingpete3937 2 роки тому

      The wife has an e-bike, it weighs 24kg. I used an online calculator to show me that if she goes up a 10% hill it needs 100w of the 250w just to move itself. A 50cc moped has 2000w and a 125cc 11000w. The uk government need to address the limits as I still feel electric bikes are an important answer to the coming mobility vs emissions problem. When I get another e-bike it will be hub powered as that seems to be the most simple construction. Your idea seems logical with current restrictions vs expense vs reliability, and a shame really.

    What a complete mess. I do hope that your bike has been properly repaired by now. The build quality is shocking and it is shameful that any self-respecting bike store would put a right pedal arm on the left side of a bike. Unless this is par for the course for Giant quality, the company really should have offered to replace your bicycle. • @Loungelizard346
    @Loungelizard346 2 роки тому

    The hole needs to be at least 5mm or bigger to work, yours is only 3 mm, you need to use a knife to open up the hole bigger, otherwise the dart won’t fit in the tyre, it’ll pop out, also make sure your sealant is latex based. As a latex sealant fuses with the dart, through a chemical reaction,which helps in sealing your punture . Also when you insert the dart in the tyre,spin the wheel down, so the punture is at 6 o clock, so the sealant can pool around the inserted dart and seal your punture 👍

    • @pedallingpete3937
      @pedallingpete3937 2 роки тому

    Thanks for doing this, really useful to know and certainly swayed my purchase decision. I'm no bike expert, but even I know about the different threading on the crank arms, so that's just unforgiveable from a brand that's supposedly luxurious. If this is the level of reliability I'd rather get something for a third of the price from Halford's and budget to replace it annually and pocket the second hand value.
