Trike Flight To Twin Oaks Airpark 7S3
This was my first time flying to Twin Oaks Airpark (7S3) since I got the Northwing trike. Twin Oaks is a locally owned airport and is home to our EAA chapter. I hadn't made the trip over to land here yet so decided to do that today. The runway is a bit different than the 5000 ft one I'm use to but not a major issue for the trike. Beautiful scenery the whole way.

Starlink String Of Lights Over Hillsboro Airport KHIO
Переглядів 69Рік тому
I was out walking with my kids at night and we unexpectedly saw this over Hillsboro Airport. At the time, I had no idea what it was but later found out it was Starlink. The planes in the pattern also saw it so I added their conversation in. While it was a neat sight, I'm concerned if this will be the norm when there's thousands of these up there constantly moving and how this will affect us.

This was a quick video to test out my new GoPro Hero9 as well as get a flight in between the endless rain. I haven't purchased a new GoPro for years so I thought it was time to upgrade. Unfortunately, time was running short so I didn't get the camera aimed as I was more concerned with getting the preflight done. My original plan was to test different camera modes, but again due to the time I on...

Flying At Point Of The Mountain North Side
Переглядів 525 років тому
This is a short video of one of my flights at Point Of The Mountain on the North Side in Salt Lake City, UT. At one point I was high enough that I should have benched up onto the back ridge, but I didn't take the chance. Got low and the paragliders came out in numbers so I decided to land. Still a nice flight.

I got the chance to fly in Cookie's Cozy III during the 25th annual Canard Fly-in down in Kanab UT (KKNB). This was a bit after the race that they do on Sunday morning and desert thermals were already cooking up. This was my first flight off the Crawford mountain range outside of Randolph, UT. It was also the first high altitude flight that I had ever done. It went well, and the flight was fantastic for being early in the season. I was a bit tired on landing and mistimed my flare, but it's not the worst I've ever done. A wonderful place to go if you get the chance.

    Hi what is top speed in flight ,top altitude, and distance that you can do..thanks

    • @geckoinc99
      @geckoinc99 3 місяці тому

      This is a Northwing Sport with a GT-5 wing and 80 HP engine. With this combination, I can cruise right at 70 mph with trip full fast. The wing has flown very close to the numbers listed on their website, so if you're curious what different wings will do, check www.northwing.com. I'm not sure where the ultimate altitude is, but Light Sport is limited to 10,000 ft. I have been as high as 7,500 ft. Most flights are 2,000 - 3,000 ft. The aircraft has a 14 gal tank and you burn about 3.5 gal/hour, so with an hour reserve you get about 3 hours of flight time and at 70 mph you get 210 miles. Actual distance will depend on wind speed and actual fuel burn.

    A front damper would help the wobble

    • @geckoinc99
      @geckoinc99 9 місяців тому

      If you’re talking about the roughness on the take off roll, that is the runway itself. The trike has a front damper but that’s made for fast oscillations.

      @@geckoinc99 oh ok. Makes since. I’ve seen some bad accidents from wobbles. Like they keep the nose wheel on ground to long. I’d keep the pressure off as long as possible

    • @geckoinc99
      @geckoinc99 9 місяців тому

      The trike use to have a nasty wobble on landing. Turned out the previous owner didn’t have the suspension geometry set right. Much better now. I usually let the wing fly at trim while accelerating so there’s not a lot of pressure on the front.

    How do these fly wet ? Not that that’s good just curious when u get cought in it. I bet higher stall speeds

    • @geckoinc99
      @geckoinc99 9 місяців тому

      It’s best not to fly when there’s rain. Dacron sails will soak up water adding considerable weight. This will increase stall speed and decent rate. This flight was after rain had passed through so the ground was wet but the air was fine.

    Awesome lighting job! Very cool to see this on a 2nd Gen Hayabusa. I have a 2013 and am trying to decide between the Givi 56L and the 47L. Are you happy with the 56 (balancing utility and appearance) or do you think the 47 would have been fine?

    • @geckoinc99
      @geckoinc99 2 роки тому

      Thanks! The 56L supplies a lot of utility. I'm the type that likes to be prepared so having space for extra items is nice. I have a fairly large backpack and needing room to fit it and my lunch plus some shoes was really handy. As for looks, it's subjective though I never felt that it really took away from the looks. However, I also never felt the need to add more speed to that beast. Also never felt anything destabilizing by having it on the back but then again I was not going fast enough to ever tell. My wife and kids very much appreciated having the back rest which made them feel more secure.

    What do you think about putting the strip above the OEM cutouts, more light I would assume a possibly better looking chase effect.

    • @geckoinc99
      @geckoinc99 3 роки тому

      I just used the holes where the OEM lights were made to go. The LEDs are actually fairly small and shine through just fine other than the spacing is a little off. I don't remember there being a lot of space between the lens and the case. If you wanted more light, I would suggest a dedicated LED bulb (red or white) with a high MCD and then wire them in with some type of controller that an arduino can address. This is just what worked for me and it was a chance to play with addressable LEDs.
