Devon Ringer Ewan
Приєднався 2 вер 2022
My name is Ewan Kaczanow. I am a Bellringer based in Devon. I ring mostly in Devon and make videos based ONLY on Devon call change peals. I'm very passionate about a good raise and lower, so this will also be featured on my channel.

Plain hunt on 9 on the Saxilby Simulator at Exeter St Mark's . Not a method ringing expert, so exuse this awful attempt. This particular one has the standard 2 weight plates, I find an added extra 3rd plate is much more realistic for handling.

Bow's winning peal. 1st place with 11 faults.

An unedited full peal with some very clean striking, in my opinion. This is Bow's peal. 2nd place with 9 faults. Sorry for the camera angle, could have done with being tilted down slightly.

The Bells of Merton, Devon

Merton tower is thought to be the tallest in devon and when they ordered new ropes, they had to build a small platform because the ropes were still too short at the max length you can buy.

Did the bell ring itself down?
I had the same experience last month, disaster lol
I have had 3 ropes snap on me before the swing chime bell of weathoral the single swing chime bell of Skelsmerghe and the single change ringing bell of Balderstone
I've not been there.
Rarely rung
@DevonRingerEwan tenor man is S Facey one of my ringers.
It does happen, are they tough?
We were second, i know i don't know what happened on that day with the scores it was a nightmare.
@christianong3703 We (Bow) won both in the end, if I remember correctly.
@DevonRingerEwan yes you did win 😀
That was my bell for the team.
gillett and johnson 1949 tenor 15-0-0cwts
All practicing for the two 8 bell competition's held in February the 1st i think i keep forgetting, Great Torrington & High Bickington & i have rung all of them. I've not been ask yet.
I love Holsworthy bells, thank you 😊
wonderful old church from Alwington
Tough ring?
@christianong3703 a little yes. Not too oddstruck, but some of them go a tad funny.
@DevonRingerEwan definitely not as nice as Poughill Cornwall.
There tough.
What happened to the treble?
@@bellringer11 The sally unwound as it was rotting inside.
Amazing well done only thing with Saxilby Simulators is it can be easy to overpull them when you ring at a slow ringing speed on Abel
happy continuation of this Christmas season, beautiful video
There a lovely tone but there a funny weight, thith is lighter than the thorth.
@@christianong3703 Very tricky bells to get right but sound lovely
nice ring of 6
Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas to you too👍
EPIC
Just had new ropes delivered at Bickleigh today, superb they are. Just in time, as we have had 2 break in the last 2 months! Not the best feeling when it happens to you
@@ryantrout6094 Avon, Green, white, Black? I will have to come along to one of your practice nights and ring on them. Do you get any decent ringing there still?
@DevonRingerEwan always welcome, get Lee to bring you, Monday evening's from around 7.30pm, check with me first mind. Yes, we don't get too bad ringing at all, some of the Shaugh ringers are there too. Myself and my dad hung the new ropes today and already they have improved the go of the heavier 2 bells, especially the Tenor, which can only be described as a beast to get up when it's only 9.75cwt, goes more like 13cwt! Headstocks too heavy
What’s more impressive than you getting it on camera🤣🤣
@@KittheCountryman it was looking frayed so I filmed it🤣
It happens in our area too, it's a disaster lol
@c-historia depends if the bell is up or not. Some ropes kick and fly around if the bell is up like this one. Others just swing if the bell is down
@DevonRingerEwan I meant that they break while we ring the bells
Gosh
Crondall take 3 😅😅 😅😅
@christianong3703 there has been lots of ropes snapping around here recently 🤣
@DevonRingerEwan that was funny when someone else said it all to due with crondall, ohhh yeah god bly me it's happening but looks like that's a old spare rope.
@@christianong3703 It's a very old spare that came from Exbourne. Rotten tail end
@DevonRingerEwan ohh yeah 🙂
Oh no!!!
Where's this i would quite like to ring it if its possible
@Heninshed Unfortunately, people can't just go and ring it, as it's in somebody's garage. Privately owned.
Oooooo I was ringing there that night
nice
I ring at Brixham, and they are very much alike to the back 8.
Nice. Never rung at Brixham, but I hear they at tricky
@DevonRingerEwan They can be tricky,
sooo amazing!
I'm impressed.
Well done 👏 😃😅
oh method ringing?
There a tricky light 8. Another lovely beautiful 8 as well as Kingsteignton is Wolborough.
Yep, i've rung there.
Why does it sound like that?
@Coreytheringer2345 because it's covered in snow and its dampening the sound
magnificent place! LIKE🛑
I couldn't make that because i was away.
they are very beautiful bells in their sound
_This way of ringing the bells is similar to our keyboards_
they sound a bit like upper sherringham all saints church bells norfolk
What are these like?
@@christianong3703 they go fairly well but are on plain bearings and a cramped ringing room
@@DevonRingerEwan plain bearings 🤔 that's interesting as the pounds wich is part of the hundred weight of them are recorded on dove's guide.
I've only rung the one in Cornwall there a light 6 tenor 6cwt in G# rung from ground floor you haven't missed much there not great, but that was my first ever tower to ring at when i started learning 15 years ago.
I have also rung in the cornwall one too😂
@DevonRingerEwan God well done you 👏
These bells sound lovely
I think at the first u was catching the Sally wrong
If you mean catching with one hand, that's what you are supposed to do when ringing up. If you mean where I catch the sally, these Sally's are too low and aren't set at the right hight, so I had to catch higher
Great video. The Bell Ringer’s arms must be very tired at the end of it.
@janinemcdonnell9221 not really. Its about technique
What’s gone wrong with it?
