    This seems like a less practical Moped/Scooter for more money. A 150-200 CC can provide the same functionality with significantly more utility/storage. Aside from the motorcycle form factor, I don't see the point of this.

    • @Niremichi
      @Niremichi 4 дні тому

      I understand your take on this. It is true for many a scooter could be a better starting point in terms of value or in terms of not needing to later trade up, but the Navi fits the "good enough" sweet spot broadly and is not intimidating, which helps get a lot of ppl enjoying and learning how to ride. The price paid for a Navi will vary based on dealer and state, but if one shops around a fair price can be had. Of course, one could go get a dirt cheap and reliable Chinese 150cc scooter online, but not everyone is comfortable with that.

    I've ridden both and they are equally good.for different reasons. I will have my green 2023 Trail paid off by the end of summer. I plan on buying the 2025 Supercub next. I also own a 1968 cm91 all original art deco fenders and round headlight. My son just bought a super clean 2023 Grom. My older son is waiting for the 2025 Dax. You can say we're hooked. Love the yellow too! Enjoy your bike. I doordash, and haul my boxer around town as well as commute two miles round trip. Lol.

      Hi Richard! Agreed on all points! It was a hard decision between that Green and Yellow for the Trail, hands down best colors. The Dax can't come soon enough! I was in Japan a few weeks ago and visited two Honda dealers, both had Trails in stock and one had an unsold Dax. It is even better looking in person. How does your son like his Grom? I think the 2024 redesign is ugly and prefer the 2023 styling.

    I will never buy another scooter that doesn't have a kick starter. You can't bump start a scooter with CVT, and no-one makes scooters with manual shifting anymore. Don't want water cooling. Added complexity and more systems to have problems. I am 100% fine with carburetors. I don't understand them and can work on them myself, and have over my 60+ years of riding. I like the big storage compartment on this scooter. It appears that easy access to check and adjust valves, once the storage box is removed, is a plus. No shims on the valves, just good old screw type adjusters. It looks nice. Bad points? It's slow but still beats a Ruckus or Metro. I hear the rear tire wears out super fast. Tires are different sizes front and rear. Honda corporate is ignoring the hellacious price gouging on the Navi. An $1807 msrp, but out the door for $3500? This really pisses me off, bad enough to maybe never buy another Honda. All in all, at 70, I am seriously considering a new Navi, but the price gouging!! This from an old geezer who has owned about 30 motorcycles and a few scooters over my 60 years of riding. I have also heard that the Navigation is super easy to inbox and get ready to ride, so the setup may be where the biggest gouge is.

    • @Niremichi
      @Niremichi 23 дні тому

      Yes sir, gotta love that kick start, and the storage is great on the Navi. Maintenance is super minimal. I never had it serviced, just change the oil and cleaned the filter myself. I never touched the carb either. Eventually the drive belt will die around 8k miles but a new one costs like 15 bucks. I didn't have any issues with tire wearing down fast but that might depend a lot on weight of the rider and/or if someone put a additional storage box on the back. Gouging is an issue for all Honda bikes bought new unfortunately, particularly the minimotos. They will throw out a real high quote first just to see if u take it, but calling around or making a hard offer "I can do 3k flat" etc. might do the trick.

    Would be nice to see a dual sport version of the Navi, with bigger tires and a 5 speed transmission, something like the motor out of the trail Honda 110 and the body of the Navi.

    • @Niremichi
      @Niremichi 25 днів тому

      I agree! The two concepts you describe sort of have been actualized, albeit not in total but half and half at the (1) Honda Trail 125 (2) Honda Dax 125. Unfortunately, the Dax 125 is still yet to come to the U.S., but I saw it at the dealer in Japan last month and man it is a great looking bike.

    • @flyinphil42
      @flyinphil42 25 днів тому

      @@Niremichi the Honda Dax is the revamped CT 70 with a 125 cc engine . Nothing much good comes to North America for some reason, it’s mainly south east Asia , India etc that get the good ones . The only reason we got the Navi is because Honda decided to make them in Mexico. But the US epa and the dot are too stringent , as well as the duty probably prevent the importation of the Dax and others. I just don’t like the automatic transmission, much prefer the hi low speed gears on the Honda 110 , I haven’t taken a good look at the trail 125 yet.

    • @Niremichi
      @Niremichi 18 днів тому

      @@flyinphil42 I'm the terms of the new Dax, my understanding is it hasn't come here yet as a business decision, not because of U.S. rules, because it has the same engine as the Grom, super Cub, Hunter Cub and monkey, all of which are already here. I agree it is a shame none of these "modern retro" minimotos have the hi-low functionality, and it is frustrating as that is a downgrade particularly if you experienced it previously. Most ppl buying these bikes now were probably babies or not even born yet when the original series were available though and don't know about it however.

    Great video. Thank you for the extensive monologue. I am a first time rider who is looking to take classes and get my license. I've been riding some fast e-bikes for the past couple years on the streets. I have a bit of an odd question (for any Navi owner) - how wide is the Navi at its widest point? I'm configuring storage, which is an issue for me. Thanks!

    • @Niremichi
      @Niremichi Місяць тому

      Hi! That is a good question. I know for sure the widest point would be the handlebars themselves. I apologize I sold mine and am not able to measure it directly, but I believe you might be able to find the details on the Honda website. The body of Navi itself is not very wide. Another quirk is the stock muffler is a bit unique on sticks out a bit on the right side of the bike. The Navi is definitely easy to store in my experience, but you shouldn't expect it will never match a e-bike in this area as many e-bikes can be physically folded, some in half and others partially.

    • @crooked_river_pyro
      @crooked_river_pyro 29 днів тому

      @@Niremichi Thank you for the timely response! Yea, my e-bikes don't fold and are easily stored indoors (townhome). I was looking into purchasing a small-er plastic-blend type shed to put on my back porch. Just figuring everything out, ya know? Thanks again.

    • @Niremichi
      @Niremichi 28 днів тому

      @@crooked_river_pyro I see. Yes a small shed would be adequate to fit the Navi. If you have the time, it might be worth it to actually just visit any motorcycle dealer near you and take a look at the Navi in person, as you can only get so far with measurements, and have a direct "feel" might help you get the right size shed (you might want to get a shed with a little extra space in case you decide to trade up to slightly bigger bike at some point as well)

      Hi Don, as far as I can tell, both from the settings at the camera itself, and from the footage I have taken, yes, EIS is working correctly at 4K60. The EIS option once "on" is applied across all the resolutions, including 4k. Nothing wierd happens where, for example, it suddenly gets switched to "off" or gets grayed out when I go to 4k. EIS was a key feature for me when choosing since I am using for motorcycle footage, and obviously no one wants to see shaky video. Hope this helps and cheers.

    I think the big one for me is the 4 speed tranny. If only they would have added a 5th gear, call it granny low or whatever. Put it on the other side of neutral (all the way down) so it could be just like my old Ford Pickup that had a very low first that you never used unless you needed it. Start out in second. With the neutral between granny low and second (which in its current form would be first) they could have done away with the bogging lack of power starting out going up a steep trail and all the duck wallowing involved. This lack of low end power can't be fixed without sprocket changes and that will hurt top end. The rest of the complaints I can fix with aftermarket.

    • @Niremichi
      @Niremichi Місяць тому

      I agree that would be nice! even if not 5 gears, just but first gear on the other side and just give me three wider gear ranges to work through, it would cut back on having to constantly slap my way throw the lower speed zones.

    Just got into motorcycles and wanted something light, cheap. Boy does this deliver on that and is a fun little thumper. Hell I've used it for quick city cruising and jumping around in off road trails. Now what I will complain about is the stock tires. Really have no grip and entirely too thin, the best mod you can do to the Navi are good tires.

    • @Niremichi

    Coming from bicycle at the age of 50, Ruckus was my first scooter before I traded it in for Navi. Acquired the 2024 Ruckus towards the end of '23 and rode it until recently, around six months in total. Aside from its power, really loved that Ruckus. Once I noticed a new `22 Navi collecting dust on my dealer's showroom, I offered a traded-in and left with my new Navi, grinning from ear to ear.. With my car reserved for highways and heavy loads, I rely on the Navi for simple point-to-point journeys using backroads. And it hasn't disappointed me yet. This compact wonder has taken me to more corners of town than my car ever did. Thanks to its handy storage box, I keep extra fuel on hand, turning refueling stops into welcome breaks. Thankfully, the Navi's endurance matches my own... LOL Thanks for the fantastic insights and explanations. Your video was a delight to watch, prompting me to drop a line. Cheers!

If I could have one single change out of everything, it would either A) bike to be physically lighter by roughly 10 lbs. or for it to come with the Zeta Large Windshield standard (Honda has an OEM windshield for the 125 that is only available in Canada, but it is too small and requires the front carrier which I don't think is practical and pointless increases wind resistance and weight

    so in the video you lament that it's not hard enough, and on the subject of 2d marios and in your SNES video, you mention that you beat Mario 2 (Japanese Doki Doki Panic) in mario allstars (and that you were disappointed that they made the ending that it was all a dream - possibly to explain why all the enemy characters were non traditional mario characters - no goombas, no koopas, no pirahnna plants, no bowser) did you beat smb1? lost levels and smb3? in my childhood I never beat smb1, and I played it recently. I purposefully played through every stage and didn't use the warp pipes. World 8 was a pain, hammer bros are annoying to get by especially when small. If I had to beat the game with the regular number of lives and continues, I don't think I ever would've done it. (and starting from the beginning each time) I died so many times as small mario to hammer bros in world 8 although supposedly on the NES if you hold A + start when you run out of continues and game over and go to the start screen, it will basically give you unlimited continues and bring you back to the world you were on. also I've never beaten SMB2 (Doki Doki Panic), but I liked the music :P

    8:37 "I think the switch is the worst nintendo system ever... barring maybe the virtua boy" wow the virtua boy getting some shade :P 9:01 "other than breath of the wlid, which was notable because it brought back the feel of original zelda" I'm guessing by original zelda you're referring to OoT and Majora's mask I don't have a switch of BoTW (and never played it), but I'd be curious how it brings back the feel of NES Zelda (never saw it live or played it either) if that's what you meant. I did see A link to the past growing up tho (SNES Zelda)

    • @Niremichi
      @Niremichi 2 місяці тому

      Haha maybe I was too hard on the virtual boy, I did think it was super cool back when I first played it in a store in 1995 haha (I still remember the feel of the weird thick rubber which was oddly comfortable and playing Wario) but even at that age after about 10 minutes of demo play I realized it was just kinda gimmicky, especially since Yoshi's island had just shown how much more the SNES had to give. Regarding breath of the wild, sorry if comment wasn't clear, personally it felt like the way it did on original NES Zelda on original NES when I was a kid, which was very impressive and truly deserves recognition because no other game since the original (I played and own all of them except the 3ds games) did. However, the problem with breath of the wild is that halfway through it doesnt tighten up, so narrative wise it becomes incredibly boring. I had to literally force myself to finish and was so bored. What was wonder becomes the horrible realization that I was not playing a Zelda game, but a downgraded monster hunter clone, and it absolutely shatters the experience.

    So what made you want to post to youtube in another comment you wrote "Video games are things but it is the people we enjoy them with that makes them special." when I was a kid I wouldn't have believed you. I would've thought if someone had all the games in the world, or all the possessions in the world that they would make one happy. (like Adam Sandler in the movie where he has to go through school again and has a mansion) or if a kid owned Willie Wonka's chocolate factory all to themselves (the Gene Wilder one) or Tom Hanks in Toys. (those are all movies I saw growing up, the Tom Hanks one I forget tho)

      I think that is an interesting point. Like you, when I was younger I would have just assumed having more would be better, and to some degree that is indeed true (wanting more is part of the human condition and that in and of itself is not inherently wrong, so long as one lives and acts in good faith in relation to the world around oneself). At the same time being older now, I appreciate as much, or more, the memories connected to these old games, as I do to the games themselves, if that makes sense.

    In Mario RPG did you get the defensive shell armor thing, and the super suit one of them you have to jump on an enemy 100 times with super jump or something (there is a dog in monster town I think that keeps track of what your record is of most consecutive jumps, and the max is 100) and did you fight the final fantasy boss in mario rpg that is in monster town I never had a physical copy of mario rpg, I saw someone else play it 30 years ago, but played it recently on a snes classic (didn't get the 100 consecutive jumps tho, or fight the final fantasy boss)

    • @Niremichi
      @Niremichi 2 місяці тому

      Haha you are pushing my memory because it is starting to get a long way away from 1996!!! I can say for a fact I remember getting the 100 super jump defensive shell, you need to get that and give it to the designated party healer. Culex the demon I just looked up. I literally had no idea that existed. Smithy is a really easy last boss so now I know why 28 years later! I'll have to boot the old cartridge up to see if my save is still there or not. If it is I'll go beat him! I don't think I have it in me to replay the whole game again though if it's gone, although it is a good excuse to buy it again for Nintendo Switch!

      Hi Edward, yes! You are correct, that is definitely the optimal range in terms rpms, and you can literally hear it sipping efficiently as you ride the Navi at that speed. Ppl whose use case will keep them primarily in that range will definitely see the best mpg performance. Unfortunately, intermittent suburban riding on the routes at 45-50 mph and/or climbing hills will dent the Navi's mpg, so from an actual day to day mpg I found it to vary between 70 to 80.
