Avoid slopes without trees, slopes with trees at the bottom, slopes with small trees, slopes with cliffs,chutes or gullies, slopes with glaciers, slopes between 30 degrees and 45 degrees, and most importantly...slopes with snow on them.

Look at the slope. If there is snow on it then the snow might avalanche. Simple.

Hi Clayton, can you recommend any resources to go more in-depth on snow science? Lots of books try and dumb things down, looking for something to help me develop a more intuitive understanding of snow dynamics

Clayton / Joel I'd never ask you about the weather in 2 months from now! Lucky for me I can decide on a Wednesday that I will be flying somewhere for my ski vacation after work that Friday. This year especially I'll be fortunate to have that ability because of COVID and trying to get an idea which resorts are not only getting the snow but which resorts are running the smoothest as far as getting people up the mountains in reasonable time. Also if reservations are simple and guaranteed or a hassle of some kind.
