Figured I'd shoot this video to give a comparison of the Kemper's Power Amp vs a Fryette PS-2. Video was shot using a Zoom stereo mic fixed to my phone. This is just a short song I whipped up to show how a computer based VST amp sim might sound like in a band context. I'm using a Strandberg 8 through Cubase VST Amp Rack through a Fryette Power Station into an Emperor 4x12 that is miced up. Drums were triggered using a Roland TD-30 into The Metal Foundry. Just guitar into the free VST Amp Rack in Cubase. Using one of the Meshuggah presets. The signal is being routed to a Fryette Power Station, which then feeds an Emperor 4x12 cabinet. This really is a great little tube amp. All tube! I got mine for under $500 used. Uses 6L6s. I got to say, it is so damn loud in my house, I can even hear it outside my drum iso booth even with the master volume at under 9 o'clock, so that might scare a lot of users away. Did you profiled the amp itself or did you downloaded the profile somewhere?
I just got a fryette ps-2 for my unpowered kemper. When powering it, which do you go with for the input level on the front of the Fryette? Low or High ?

Went back and listened with headphones, the Fryette has a marked difference. More full ,less harsh, warmer. Sound that way in the room too?
I like them both to be honest and wouldn't want to colour anyone's perception of the video, given that my views are unimportant! But I can definitely say that the Fryette is a good pairing for an unpowered Kemper. The cool thing about the Fryette is that you can adjust depth and presence, which I find can help you get the sound exactly like the Kemper power amp, or take it in another direction.
Thanks for doing this, sounds good! I just bought a PS2 and am hopeful using a real cab and tube power amp is the missing link. I've departed Kemper, Fractal and Atomic over the years largely because my FRFR's just don't have the punch of a 4x12 cab.
Did you need to change the sensitivity settings etc for each of the pads so the mic could pick up everything? And did you need to use any triggers?
Hi, the system doesn't use triggers, except for the kick drum. It's basically a high end stereo microphone that picks up the sound of the individual kit pieces and amplifies them. That also allows you to add various effects to the entire kick. With the bass drum, since you have a trigger, you can do even more processing. Hope that helps.
