Our First Trip as a Family of Five / Bath, Oxford, Castle Combe
This is a compilation of videos I managed to capture while wrangling 3 kids through the UK! We went from Newmarket to Bath with a stop in Oxford and an afternoon in Castle Combe. We stayed at an AirBnB in the Cotswolds. Avebury was a big hit with Emma (4) and Ryker (2) who were able to live out their Peppa Pig dreams, jumping in muddy puddles. Hadley really enjoyed napping in Bath and trying garlic bread for the first time! Matthew & I loved seeing a few HP filming locations at Christ Church and also learning about the man who discovered Uranus, William Herschel.

So this is where American taxpayers are going to. Caring about more countries then it’s own. 800 overseas bases and you call Russia evil. Who would want to go to Italy or any nato eu nation with there wokeness and imperlsim. Russia is the best country in Europe.
Was stationed there back in 97. I did the long tour too. I miss it
Sorry. I'm friulian. First time we are Friulians and not "italians" we have a different culture, songs ( not "naples tarantellas") language and more. Friuli is a multicultural land with 3-4 languages. Friulian,Italian, German, Slovenian and relatives culture. Sorry if in our land we havent a/c conditioned. It's this a problem for your life? 🤷 Incredible. Your image for our land is very offensive. Bye 👋
Non capisco proprio dove sia stata "offensiva", al contrario è stata gentile ed oggettiva. E ai nostri amici americani dico sempre: benvenuti in Italia e buon soggiorno!

I was born in greece, so the whole afternoon shutdown stuff is something i am luckily already familiar with.
I was stationed in Aviano from 1997-2000. Miss it. I just shopped in base. But when we go out to eat, was the greatest time. Miss the weekend market in central Aviano. And Stradellas…
Was it free ? How was your experience giving birth here ?
Lovely house!
Great video - thanks!
Girl , I just found out I’m pregnant here in Aviano Italy and I’m so happy but nervous bc is my first , would be nice if I can get more tips
Ahh. Great memories of my time there in the mid 1980s. The dorm rooms back then were ridiculously small with a gang latrine so I couldn't wait to move off base. Single airmen E-5 and above were on a waiting list to move off base. Thankfully I was on the list for about 3-weeks before getting permission and sharing a nice duplex in Costa de Aviano with a beautiful few of the Santiario Diocesano Madonna del Monte right outside my bedroom window. Our Italian neighbors were the greatest!
Was stationed there 96-99. Miss it….hope you’re enjoying it.
We lived in Marsure from 2016-2018, and maybe you’re lucky to find so many Italians that know English, as I was lucky to find maybe 50% of the Italians I talked with knew enough conversational English. With that being said, there were more Italians than I expected that knew English. It’s always respectful to learn the host nation’s language, and make an effort to speak that language whenever possible. I was lucky enough to work on base with most of my coworkers being Italian, and they helped me learn more than I ever would on my own time. It also helped that I’m Roman Catholic and I would attend mass in our town of Marsure. I’m sure your video has helped plenty of people who are PCSing or just settling down in Italy, and helps them know what to expect from their stay. We are lucky enough to be back here in Europe, but this time in Germany, so a little bit of a change, but not much as far as most of what you talked about in your video. Europeans in general have a greater appreciation for family time, and therefore take time out of their day to make time. I did notice in our time there that spouses would gripe about Italians not knowing English that well, and I thought that was very disrespectful, and would say, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do!!!” I think we expect too much when we go to other countries, so if the people do speak English, we are very lucky to have that connection.
Congratulations 💐💐💐
You should explain if you had to pay. Many foreigners in Italy don't go to the doctor because they don't know how many things are free.
Part 3 ?
Unfortunately no, we are no longer stationed there. :( Best of luck to you!
Houses When we first arrived to Colorado we stayed an apartment when I was almost 2 years old until our house was built. We lived off base at Nassau Place in Aurora. It was 2 story house plus a basement. I also would play in my dinosaur sandbox outside.I also would play on my swing set in Colorado. Shopping. I also went to Target in Colorado too sometimes with my mother. I also went to King Soopers for my gluten free food. I also went the Aurora Mall and I would ride there Carousel there until the removed it for Remodel which however I did not know at the time until Last year when I looking up information of the mall plus I had no idea what was remodeling was at the time. I also played at the arcade at the mall too. I also went to Park meadows mall and Cherry creek mall where I got some of my care bears from and My mother would get greek food back in the day there.I also would play on the breakfast play area there. I also went to the base exchange there once. One time there we encountered a lost girl there. School and Social. I went to Mission Viejo in Colorado which is a Preschool that is where I started school. The bathroom had foot markers green for the girls and white with spots for the boys. I also would roll around in this round toy I cant exactly describe it. I also had difficultly with my work there too some time like writing an r and I took too long on a task one day that I missed show and tell because of that. Then after that I moved to Dakota Valley there I can remember Miss Peggy being out one day because her husband died. I also remember having conferences in school in Kindergarten. I also made a clay turtle in 1st grade and clay frog in 2nd grade in art class and I also heard god bless america and god bless the usa and the military themes song in music class. One time in 2nd grade a girl named Asia asked me to skip class with her to go miss Chapman room and I did get in trouble for that. I also would play Keybo and Starfall on the computer back in the day as well as original Kid Pix. I also would look at books in the library and sit on a purple couch which the school no longer has. I also would have lunch group with other special needs girls every Thursday at school. However When I first started doing this Ms pat or Ms donna who would accompany me to lunch first worried where I was since I was not eating in the cafeteria in school on Thursday. I also would also read books in my chapmans rooms in an area with bean bags for us to students to sit on. I also went the Science museum with my school in 2nd grade as well as the Denver Zoo. I also had sensory breaks at school and I also would have gluten free treats at school whenever there was a birthday celebration or other celebration. I also went to a friends birthday party from school at an arcade once. Also one time A girl named Ashley had a heart attack I was so young when it happened. I also would have Friday afternoon club with the class on Fridays just before the weekend. We also had two playgrounds. One time on one playground the slide got closed down after some one was hurt. One time I tried walking away a certain direction from the school and everyone shouted my name for doing that. I also was on the wall one time at recess for 10 minutes. One time I came to school in my Witches costume for Halloween I actually have a picture of me in this costume with ms Anderson in the photo with me she was my special Person in Colorado before I had my dog Henry. I also given my own special whistle from one of the staff members and I tried telling my parents but they were not happy with me blowing a whistle at school. I also would ride scooter boards when I was doing Occupational Therapy with Ms Michelle. One time I had stay inside at school for recess because it was 107 outside. One time I was coming from school in shorts because my mother it was going to be 70s but it ended up snowing instead. We also had Hawaiian theme party for me when we had my goodbye party for that school and i got ty Beanie baby fish which I still have and shower curtain and Hawaii themed trash can which i still have. I also went to birthday party for a boy named Phoenix I have pictures of me at his party. I also went to Ryan and Emma house in Colorado Springs as well. I also was party of the Girls scouts briefly in Colorado Swimming I went Swimming at the Trails Recreation Center where I would do the slides with my dad when he went with me. I also swam in an Inflatable pool in my backyard too. Holidays I would do fireworks on our court every 4th of July. I also would wear a snowsuit every Halloween one Halloween I was a lady bug. I also saw a tornado close to our house once for my mothers birthday and we went camping for my 8th birthday and I also got a furby for my 5th birthday and back then I used have a collection of furbys.I do not have them anymore. I also got a heart basket for valentines day one year which i still have. I also would go this hotel I can not remember the name and I do not know if the they still do it but they would host these dances and I would play with other people kids and this how I met my friend Nadia and My parents would dance with the other adults.
im a 16 years old Italian boy and it makes me feel happy when I see other people buying food. Food shopping is like my comfort ❤when i see all the options of food and nutella i get so happy 😭
Knife metallurgy school is hundred years old. Here we Furlan made some of the best knifes ever. Glad you have enjoyed it. And welcome in Friuli, even if I'm late. 😉👍
I received a job offer there and I am wondering how hard is it to find housing
My husband found our house so I am not sure but I've heard it's harder with dogs.
So what?!? Welcome to the best place in the world!!! Aviano rulez
Totally agree!! I miss it so much. I just thought this would be helpful for Americans and avoid some culture shock.
The bells... Soooo Italian
I did get a little cheesy with the music on some of these videos!! Lol :)
Thank you for your videos!! I would like to make some question about your time in Italy. How has changed your ideas and opinions of Italy and Europe before and after living in Italy? Which are the big differents between Usa and Italy. Living in Italy has chenged you and your family? What will you remember of these four years in Italy? Thank you to answer.
Hi there! I really didn't have any opinions about Italy before moving there. I will say that I was surprised by how kind my Italian neighbors were! They'd bring us flowers, baked goods, and were so willing to help us when needed. (I locked myself out of my house once and my landlord left work immediately to let me in!) I think one of the biggest differences is the general size of things....houses, cars, portions. It is more convenient as well. I can have food, groceries, amazon or Target items delivered to my door in hours or days. HOWEVER, I would trade all of the conveniences to be in Italy again. <3 I remember the Dolomites, the food, the authentic experiences, and the people the most.
Nice memories.....
Emma is the most beautiful child Ive ever seen. you're such a lucky couple. Im so envious!!!
You are so sweet to say this. Thank you & best of luck to you. <3
This gives me the "I've never traveled outside of the US and i think the US is the center of the world" vibes... And this is coming from an American. Please don't embarrass us by being uneducated. A lot of these things you could've known by Google or traveling. Like OMG there's no central AC... Well there's none outside of the US lol. So just because your perception of the world is so little doesn't mean they're in the wrong or are inconvenient. You have just always been spoiled without knowing.
You’re so rude and for what. She’s literally educating people who aren’t prepared or have done research before hand 🙄 get over yourself at least people are trying to learn
Not having A/C when one is accustomed to it is indeed inconvenient. Convenience is entirely a matter of perception. You base your determination of convenience based on your subjective frame of reference. Thus, your comment is the ignorant one. This woman is making a video for fellow Americans. Cultural differences will inform one’s expectations. Convenience is hence determined based on a collective American perception. Check mate.
Hi there! I totally see where you're coming from. Before living in Italy, I moved to South Korea and Poland to teach (I met my husband in South Korea). There is central AC in Poland and South Korea, by the way. :) This video was meant to highlight the major differences b/w Italy and USA. I was hoping it could help others avoid some culture shock. I still say I'd go without central AC and the ease of America to be in Italy again! <3
@@kathrynstetson855 Thanks, Kathryn! :)
@@fitzwilliamdarcy5263 Thank you for your comment! Yes, I was just trying to make videos to help Americans. I have found that for many this is their first overseas assignment. It can be a huge adjustment being away from family and the luxuries we grow accustomed to like central AC.
As a pasta expert, I can tell you that Pasta Sgambaro 7:11 is the best choice. The flour used in pasta Sgambaro comes from wheat cultivated only in Italy. The flour mill is cloose to the pasta factory, so only fresh flour is used. They use only durum wheat, which is more valuable and higher in protein content than common bread wheats. They also have an organic pasta line which is really worth it.
I rather prefer the Rummo. 🤔 But yes, Sgambaro is good too.
Sgambaro is the best pasta
Thanks for the tip!
Good memories. Was stationed in Aviano from 96-99 fire Dept. Lived in Vigonovo. Have fun.
Did y’all ship a car to Italy? 1st assignment is Aviano, so starting to research things
Sorry for the delay but yes we did!
I actually don't understand why ship furniture or cars there.
Great job Rachell Very informative
Thanks!
Please I and my mother is looking for a house to rent please can you help me please
I hope you were able to find a home!
Hi! I’m moving to Aviano soon from the UK and this is super helpful! Thank you for what you do!❤️🙏🏼 Your videos are amazing and you seem so sweet🥰
I hope you're enjoying it and I'm glad this was helpful!
I love asiagoooooo. So yummy.
It is the superior cheese!
hi, i have been offered a job there.. but i have no idea about housing rents for a single person. i hope you can give me an idea..thank you
I’ll be pcsing from ramstein to aviano in September!
You're so lucky to be moving from one awesome base to another! Have so much fun <3
Beautiful home. That is extremely lucky to have so much furniture before HHG comes. We are moving to Alaska and already trying figure of how will piecemeal things together.
Thank you so much! Yes, we put a bunch in our first shipment! We were lucky. But the couch, king-sized bed, and some other small things were given to us from neighbors!
As an Italian, which actually spends a lot of time on socials and youtube trying to deeply understand the American culture, I'm very pleased by your nice comments and the "old" experiences here from guys that were stationed back in the 80's and 70's.It seems like Italy and our nice citizens keep a special place in your heart and memory...Things are changed a lot since the days of "Top Gun" and now in Aviano and Pordenone you can find basically everything, big Malls, Ikea, Multiplex theaters, in general quality of life in Northern Italy is top notch and then you can come to my city beach Jesolo, very near to Venice, even though Lignano beach is nearest to you. When I was a child back in the 70's I remember that white Plymouth with that strange plate AFI, the big guys inside scared me with that MP strip on their arms...they were in Jesolo regularly joining our Carabinieri (Italian law enforcement)station during their service...welcome to Italy to the new movers and hope you guys have the best records of your Italian deployment
I loved my time there! My neighbors were all so kind including my landlords. I would go back in a heartbeat! <3
Oh my goodness! I’m so thankful both you are okay! I can’t imagine how scary that must’ve been for you! This video was so precious!💙
It was super scary but he’s healthy & that’s all that matters! Thank you 😊
Some of these items found in an Italian grocery store are also found in the Commissary & AAFES stores. Ingredient list is different the American version which you end up finding inside the commissary and the Army Airforce Exchange will have GMO and food stabilizers that is illegal in Europe. If you want to stay healthy get the European version of the same item which is going to lack the illegal substances found in Stateside version of the same item. My question is this dude Italian grocery stores sell non UHT Milk which is common in the United States
We have UHT milk too. But there are literally a series of milk to pick here. Light, heavy, entire, "of protected origin", etc...
Praying that everyone falls asleep quickly and has a peaceful sleep. Hope you all wake up happy and well rested 😀😍😜😀
Noticed when living in States the poor cash attendants were always standing never sitting. How uncomfortable that must be.
Yes!! I thought it was crazy to see cash attendants sitting when I first got to Europe. I definitely think they all deserve to sit while they scan items. Here in Colorado at the grocery store 'King Soopers' they actually take everything out of your cart, scan it, and bag it!
"Like OMG!!", I was stationed there from 81 to 87, ur very very spoiled..its not the US, so enjoy it n NOTHING is an inconvenience, ur in THEIR Country.."Like..get over it.."
Again, I made this video to show people what it's like living there not to show 'inconveniences'. You can watch my other videos and see how much I loved living there. Best <3
My newpher has the same name as your son
I love it! I hear it so much now. I think it's gaining popularity.
How much did all of these costs?
I can't remember! I always found it cheaper to buy produce here instead of on base. It was fresher too!
This amount of food supplies doesn't costs so much. Around 30-40€ to a max of 70-75 €. It depends also on the brands, the amount of any products you decide to take etc... But usually a "spesa" like this isn't that expensive.
Hi, Maniago is my home 😃
You are so lucky! Beautiful town.
@@rachellbaker6161 thanks for the reply, if you come back, you are welcome 😃
I like watching your videos, but pleaseeee, enough with this stereotypical "Italian" music. It's really annoying.
Haha I totally agree!
You forgot to talk about transformers. 220 down to 110. Other than that I thought it was Good. Lived in Aviano from 1972 - 1984
Ugh, you're right; the dreaded transformers! I'm so happy to not have to deal with those for now!
First world problems on #1. It’s crazy there’s no central AC? Here in the US we’re THE ONLY ones that have central AC. Someone had never traveled before lol
Actually I lived in South Korea and Poland before this. Had AC in both places! I just wanted people to understand what to expect. Best <3
Are you guys living on base? Moving there in September!!!!
