Vincent Ledvina is a professional aurora chaser and photographer inspiring others through northern lights timelapse. Vincent also has a passion for science and photography education, sharing his knowledge of chasing aurora, capturing northern lights photos, and how to read and interpret space weather data. Besides photography, Vincent is a student at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks pursuing a Ph.D. in Space Physics, studying the aurora, but his research spans multiple disciplines. Recently, Vincent has published papers on small-scale solar physics, how society can be more resilient to space weather, and modeling coronal mass ejections (CMEs), a type of space weather.

Presentation file and full recording are available here: zenodo.org/records/14226467 Blog article: coming soon! Auroras (e.g., Northern Lights) are moving curtains of color in the night sky. They are caused by charged particles from the sun channeled by Earth’s magnetism towards northern and southern polar areas. These particles cause the gasses in the air to glow. The Northern Lights Dancing on Alaska Air Flight 97, SEA-FAI
Переглядів 1,9 тис.Рік тому
Last night was an epic flight from Seattle to Fairbanks, Alaska Air Flight 97. The northern lights first appeared right as we punched through the perpetual PNW fog layer and left the light pollution of the city. As we flew further north, the band of aurora that was just peeking over the horizon grew taller and taller until it erupted in a brilliant display of colors right as we flew over Wrange...

This was very interesting, thanks!
Thank you for one of the few real-time tripod-mounted single-location no-cuts videos of the Auroras Borealis on UA-cam. I've been searching for this too long.
Hi Vincent, that just took my breath away !!!!!! It’s the last thing on my bucket list to see the majestic Aurora!! I’m 62 so I hope I see it I live south of Boston so I better pack my bags to go north
Thanks for the comment! Fairbanks is the place, not too far from Boston, just a few flights!
@@vincentledvina hahahahahaha exactly a quick couple flights ! When r the best months to plan a trip up there ?
@@megfrank8372 Feb-early April is always a good time!
@@vincentledvinaCan you give some background on Fort Yukon, what it was like staying there, etc.? Headed up there in a month and haven’t gotten much information from work on the location. Thanks!
@@jam_1482 I probably won't be too much help since I just stayed at the base the entire time I was there, but there wasn't cell service for me (verizon), and the town is pretty small. There's basically all you need right there, though, It's big for a remote Alaksan village.
absolutely amazing👍👏✌👃
Which side of the flight was your seat?
right side
My friend, Great Good... !!! I wish you every day of your development.
Wow!! New sub from Scotland 🙏🏼🔥 hoping to catch them soon as keep missing them 😂
That's beyond beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing your work 💚💚💚

AMAZING SPIRITUAL HEALING LIGHTS 💚
Gorgeous
Excellent science-dense presentation. Perhaps you can answer a question I've had for many years now... That image of the full auroral oval from space in the upper right at 14:00, it's actually not from '96, but rather from some time in the 80s! It was taken with the Dynamics Explorer 1 satellite. My question is why haven't we had the capability to get images like this for 2 decades? In the 80s we had the DE satellites, in the 90s we had the POLAR satellite, in the early 2000s we had the IMAGE satellite to get near real time images of the full auroral oval, then after IMAGE died in 2005, nothing. There are apparently no space assets to image the aurora at all any more! Why? Even the THEMIS ASI ground based video feeds don't seem to exist any more? What's going on?? I occasionally see a Hubble or JWST press release with an image of an auroral oval on OTHER planets and think to myself, "wtf, we still can't even do this for Earth, but we have it for other planets now"? The data must have been very valuable while it existed, it's inexplicable to me why something hasn't flown in a highly elliptical orbit for decades now with this capability. The data rates surely would be minuscule.
What was the date of this flight?
Yesterday, 11/5
@@vincentledvina That's so cool! It was snowing in Kenai. still is
Hi, I will visit Fairbanks on thanksgiving and Im just curious what time was your flight when you captured this amazing view? Thats incredible, wish I could catch some!

You know, my greatest wish is to see northern lights and I want to see it every single day. And when I see you Living the life I want, I didn't envy, but wonder how lovely you are seeking your dreams. One day I will too meet my dream. Amazing video man keep it up.

Thank you so much. Thank you, thank God, thank Canada, thank Manitoba, thank Churchill ! I'm from Winnipeg. That means so special for me.
Absolutely stunning videos. The aurorae I have not seen in person in 20 years since doing some work in Ft Saskatchewan, AB. Your videos are inspirational!
Also, the Vertical shots and dilapidated Merry-go-round whisked me away to fond childhood memories 🔥
I have ONLY witnessed them a few Rare occasions. During the 80's in the Midwest. I took them as Spiritual then as Well ❤️
I didn’t just liked this amazing and glorious video, I LOVRD it!!
Wow!

Amazing...
Thanks a lot 😊
I've seen magnificent Light Pillars, in NY state. Always cloudy when the Borealis, is above. The best I've seen was during a great solar storm of 2002. From midnight till dawn. New Moon. And the night was like a pre-dawn sky.
Mesmerizing.... Great work, lots of effort, really stunning result 👍🏻👏🏻
Are there similar displays in the Southern Hemisphere?
Greetings from România! Very nice and interesting your video! Congratulations! 👍
