Back in the late 90s I think, after a long line of unreliable motorcycles, Honda threw a TON of money into an over-engineered beauty of a bike they called the VFR750. This thing probably cost them more to make and sell than it ever made in profit but it restored their reputation for top-quality motorcycles. Back in around 2009 when I was working in London I nipped out to Denmark St. with my boss to choose a guitar for the office... and settled on this one. I knew from that moment it was the VFR750 of guitars and the next 15 years has proved it to be the case. It was also just about the only guitar I ever bought from a store that was absolutely playable from the moment cash changed hands. It's only down-side (depending on point of view) is the ultra-thick, ultra-glassy and ultra-brittle finish. Chipping these is like breaking a window. But fabulous guitars. If everyone bought them, I'd be out of work. From a guitar tech point of view, this Chinese-made Squier guitar puts most of Fender's USA and Mexico offerings to shame.

Just saying, the billie joe version is way better looking and I belive its basically the same guitar as this, except I think the neck is a bit rounder, I will get that over this.

Nice SG Lem. I have given a 70's Japanese Hondo strat to a close friend. It's a good feeling passing an instrument on, afterall we are just custodions of our posessiins. Btw just picked up a 70'scGreco sunburst maple neck strat copy, its's the business, played it at my last rehearsal and really bonding with it. Your playing is sublime as usual, take care m8.

Picked up a 70’s Law Suit Black Beauty in pawn shop. Still sounds awesome today. Pretty good copies from back in the day.

Hi Lem! I just added another Tele to my collection, I bought an Antiquity rosewood (simulated) Tele from Colin of The Guitaristas channel, when I first saw it on his channel I loved it, it has a black ebonised neck and the same effect with a simulated rosewood body and sounds quite pokey for Tele.I looked on their website to buy one but it is discontinued with the black neck. I asked Colin if I could have first dibs on his when he was ready to sell it, I got an email off him the same day the last video posted and its currently on its way. Its a budget guitar but I cant wait for this one to arrive! Great! you must be so chuffed that your son is taking up the guitar, and what a nice model to learn on, my dad taught me to play on his 68 Goldtop and Burns Vista Sonic, I was 8 when I started learning and had to play with a capo as my arms were too short. LOL, these guitars I inherited when my dad passed.

When I was a lad and dinosaures ruled the earth ... I had an Avon SG ... possibly made in the same factory. The thick neck pocket on yours looks exactly like my Avon SG I think. I had no idea how good they were back then. I have lately been getting into early 80s japanese guitars, and god they are far better than I remember. Cheers.

I've done up a couple of those pub-brown Columbus SGs in the last 10yrs, they are full of mojo! I hope your boy has loads of fun with it :)

54 years old that's amazing . They say old pickups sound better. I can't comment on that but listening to many great guitar players playing vintage guitars I think it holds true take care my friend

I’ve been incredibly busy recording and all that kind of stuff but I saw this pop up real quick before I start my lessons and I love it that says it all that’s what supposed to happen Fathers are supposed to give their sons their guitars unfortunately I do not have one to give to, but my grandkids will enjoy them.
