Can we charge lithium battery using wind turbine? Which has too variable speed and variable voltage and current.
Yes. We can definitely charge a Lithium-Ion battery with a Wind-turbine, Jayant. All that we would need is a Charge controller that converts a Wind-turbine's variable output into a steady DC output. This steady DC output would then seamlessly charge the battery.
@@longmanenergy Please provide your contact details. I want to buy one set. Objective is to run a 2.4 KVA Microwave on off grid inverter with lithium ion Battery. Battery will be charged using car alternator. Limitation is I don't have much space. I can compromise with backup time.

Why are there no high capacity Li-ion battery cells - Eg: 100 aH, 280 aH as there are for LiFePO4 chemistry. Is this due to the instability and thermal runaway problems that are inherent in the Li-ion chemistry ?
Thanks for an important technical question concerning the two very popular and dominant Lithium-based batteries. Lithium-Iron-Phosphate or LiFePo4 batteries score better than Li-ion batteries in terms of Thermal stability, Chemical stability, Longer life cycles as well as Safer disposal (As LiFePO4 is a nontoxic substance unlike LiCoO2). And this is precisely why LiFePO4 is gaining traction for all purposes such as electric vehicles, grid storage wherein a bigger capacity is needed. Meanwhile, Li-ion batteries still and may continue to be popular for in smaller capacity use cases such as laptops and mobiles as their energy density is far superior to any other Lithium storage formats.

Wow. Great video. Are smart watches lithium battery powered? And if so does the same principle apply with the 5% rule before charging and avoiding 100% charging?
Happy to know that you liked the video. Also, it's a great question that you put forward about Smart-watches. Many Smart-watches have Lithium-ion batteries. However, manufacturers are slowly shifting to Lithium-Polymer batteries. These are close cousins of Lithium-ion batteries but are safer and much less prone to fire and explosion. This makes Li-Polymer batteries more ideal to be used for devices, such as Smart-watches, that stay closer to you physically. Unfortunately, these Li-Polymer batteries have lower charge density & lesser life. Thus, following good practices such as avoiding over-discharge become even more crucial in this case. Meanwhile, by virtue of being safe, it's less risky when it comes to over-charing. We shall be covering these in detail in a future dedicated to Li-Polymer and other Lithium battery types.
