How did you dehydrate the turkey. I tried but it did not rehydrate at all. It stayed hard
Proper rehydration takes time. I usually let it soak for at least an hour. It is possible you over dehydrated it as well. If u rush the rehydration. Your meal will suffer. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great Video! Il have to give this a try soon on my next camping trip!
I don't know why, but it turned out fantastic this trip. It was my favorite of the trip, but the Curry Pork Noodles was a close second! Thanks for commenting and please check out my other videos if you enjoyed this one!
Enjoyed your trip. You guys are real troopers
Thanks! It was a fun trip as always
That was well just Bitchin! I personally have a Stanley set I use also I buy the No#10 cans and break them down into (vacuum seal bags in a clean environment) Zip lock bags work NP with that I use Garlic. I gave you a like and share with a subscribe.
Thanks! I really appreciate that! I dislike eating out of bags, or cooking in bags. I also severely dislike garlic. I can tolerate it, for example it is in the noodles and seasoning, but I avoid most things with it in it and never add it. The smell of it is nauseating and the taste is almost as bad. See? I'm not opinionated! lol Thanks for the comment and check out my other videos!
I watched this video today with someone and just realized that somehow the audio got out of sync either just before I exported or during exporting the video so I apologize for the messed up audio in this one!
Yup,,, that's wet
Very
Great job!
Another great looking meal if you have lots of time in the morning. My breakfasts while camping are usually some oatmeal or a breakfast wrap with bacon and eggs in it. I think this would be a good suppertime meal for me. That is when I usually enjoy taking my time to cook and enjoy a few cups of tea or a beer before supper. Thanks for showing this one.....Take care,Bluefin.
This could be used for any meal. I usually have oatmeal as well, and bring this one out on mornings I have more time to play with breakfast. I have added peppers and mushrooms to it as well in the past, and it tastes pretty good as well, more like a breakfast casserole then. Thanks for watching!
This meal looks delicious. I think I will add that to my meal rotation for this summer of camping trips. I like to dehydrate my own meals also and this one is an easy meal to prepare. Thanks for posting this one.......Take care, Bluefin.
Yes, one of my easiest. Thanks for commenting
Great video! I watched MaddyTheGoose channel way back when he was posting regular. Great channel and the Sheperd's Pie video is my favourite one. It is one of my favourite meals and it is especially delicious when out in the woods.....Take care, Bluefin.
It was a great channel. I have used a few of his ideas. I often wonder what he is up to these days and if he is still tripping
Good job ❤
Looks delicious Med
How did you make out with the ticks?
Not too bad this past spring. It varies each year. We check ourselves out pretty good. I hardly had any on me this past spring, but Aaron had more crawling on him. It is the way of the woods in the spring in that part of Nova Scotia. You need to be mentally prepared to deal with them, and be vigilant, especially when you are moving through long grass
@ yes, we find the same, a lot of it is a mindset. My brothers and I have started to try out permethrin, a liquid insecticide that we have sprayed on our woods clothing. Once sprayed, you let the clothes hang dry, and then they’re good for numerous washings before you need to reply. Does it work? Well now, that’s a good question - we need a Guinea pig to join us without any on and travel the same places to find out, lol. We figured it was worth it if it keeps lymes disease away. Oh, and where is your best-in-the-world backwoods meatloaf recipe? lol…
I appreciate the introduction with the map and showing where you will be going.
Great comment! I was hoping for that kind of response. It actually was an after thought. Thanks for commenting!
So precious ❤🙌
My precious little boy
Jeez that Cameron fella sure is noisy!
Always making a racket unfortunately
Wow that's a lot of carrying, and with an aluminum boat! Impressive! But have you considered a set of canoe wheels? They make it a breeze to portage along a road, you can even put gear in the canoe, and they're really not that heavy when you have to carry them. The dogs would love that sawdust pile! I took them to one before, parked on it and let them out, the pup loved it but my 8 yr old husky thought it was too weird and her legs went all wobbly like she couldn't walk! So I let her walk onto the pile herself and she started tearing around like she was a puppy again!
I have used them and hate them overall. Most Tobeatic trails are difficult to even manage on foot, let alone with a set of wheels. Most carries in the wilderness area you couldn't use them and you would be carrying them as well. We actually found an abandoned set of wheels on this trip and I considered taking them...but it would just make more junk to carry. My canoe is about 56lbs, lighter than most boats out there today. It carries like a dream. Thanks for commenting!
@thewildernesswanderer140 wow that's really light for a tandem!
@@CanadianSledDog Amazing canoe made by Gruman for wilderness travelling. Virtually irreplaceable these days. It is almost perfectly balanced, you can put it up either way, but it carries slightly better stern first over bow first.
👍
Love meeting fellow Islanders who love to canoe.
Thanks! I have lived in PEI for over 30 years, but I am from NB. Thanks for commenting!
It looks very tranquil and relaxing out there. Did you see many people?
There are virtually no people in the wilderness area. In nearing 30 week-long trips, I have only encountered people in the wilderness area a couple of times. Occasionally there are people at the access points, or sometimes vehicles. It gets few visitors and it is a huge area, so people like myself plan trips all over the place and those trips rarely coincide on the same dates or places. Thanks for commenting!
@ getting away from the crowds is important when trying to disconnect. That’s my kind of adventure.
@@ArtistryOfAdventure Thanks! I need to get away and disconnect. I do an 8 day wilderness trip twice a year and decided this past spring to share my experience and experiences with the world. It has turned out that I find it really fun to share, record video, make content, and be creative in this way, so look for lots of content to come. Thanks for watching!
Well done video, good narration and descriptions of the portages, etc. So glad that you and your son were able to get out and enjoy the woods and water. Will take a look at your vids for some backwoods meals as well…
@@Saltedbiscuit0007 Thanks for the comment! Yes please check out my videos and like and subscribe if you are so inclined! I am new to the UA-cam world but have really enjoyed making content and am planning for the future already. Awesome trip guys thanks for sharing
Thanks!
Beautiful country. Bet that was a blast.
Sure was. Good memories, hoping for a follow-up trip next August

@@thewildernesswanderer140 also the soundtrack is awesome 👍
Great video guys. Looks like a perfect place. Shame about the knee.
@@sergneedless5127 Thanks! Seemed fitting for this "series" with my boy William
@@steve363 Ya, I overdid it a bit. It just needed some rest. I was out pounding the local trails again about a week after returning home
When using gravy mixes I like to mix them with cold water first. A little water at a time make a thick paste and slowly thin it out. I find this prevents the lumps.
Good suggestion! - Ed
Looked delicious
It was! And is lol. I take it every trip.
Do you remember what brand name of your burner is?
Yes I do! Rivertrail, which was a home brand sold by Home Hardware here in Canada years ago. It has been a great stove. I have been using this one since about 2010, and I used another identical one for my trips from 2004 until then. It got lost in a move, but I had a backup one. It has cooked a lot of meals and boiled a lot of water. Thanks for watching and commenting! - Ed
Thanks,I’ll see if I can locate 1 looks heavy duty compared to the back packer type
Too much work. Domino's delivers!😁👍
Lol! That's funny! Where I am there is no phone service for usually 2-3 days travel. I expect delivery pizza would be heavenly in the woods. Thanks for watching and commenting!
MaddyTheGoose his name is Troy i enjoyed watching his videos for years ' unfortunately for the last several years he hasn't been doing UA-cam content .
Ya I went looking since posting this video and his last video was 2 years ago, but most of his content is much older. He has some really good stuff!
I've watched all of his cooking videos, however he hasn't posted any new videos in years.
I went looking a week ago or so, and he has been largly inactive for many years. A shame as I really enjoyed his early content
My only question is why didn't you dump the gravy mix in with the meat/veg, then top with the potatoes? I make a version of this in my Trangia. I, too, dehydrate all my own stuff including ready-made meals, and also like to build my own MREs out of them
To me, the presentation would be wrong and it would be hard for me to get the consistency that I want. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@thewildernesswanderer140 fair enough. You gained a new sub, so I'll be watching your other cook videos and be looking forward to new ones!
Fantastic. Glad to have you. I was thinking about my meals for thr next trip yesterday
That gravy would come out a lot better if you heater water up to finger hot, then dropped in the butter and powder, mixed the two together until the butter was melted and there was no powder left, then brought it all to a boil while stirring until as thick as you wanted it.
Interesting tip! I may try that next time to help keep from clumping up. The gravy does turn out fantastic, but sometimes it can have some thick, salty sections from the little clumps, but they taste good too! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Shepherd's pie, cottage pie who really cares what you want to call it.
It's just the people that want to know what's in it, nbd
It's the technical things that get me all the time @@alpastor666
@@alpastor666 Well, he mentioned beef, so it's cottage pie.
I also mention in the video that "real" shepherd's pie is made with lamb, not beef
U got a predator lurking in the trees
A predator? Do tell!
Excellent video
Thank you so much! Really glad you enjoyed it
When you use beef it's actually a cottage pie not a Shepard's pie , a traditional Shepard's pie is made with lambs mince
Yes, I mention that in the video and in various other replies to comments here. Everyone here calls this "Shepherd's Pie", and basically very few people have ever even heard of cottage pie. Thanks for the comment!
That looks really good but I hate doing dishes when camping so I make everything the Freezer Bag Way. The bag from the 1st meal of the day turns into garbage bag for all the others. No pot to clean and licking the spoon cleans it. For freezer dried ( dehydrated ) items all the vegetables I get from Harmony House Foods. For fat it is ghee ( Clarified Butter ) which does not spoil since the milk impurities have been removed. Meats are dried here at the house. Each bag is marked with the necessary amount of water and it is brought to a almost boil before adding it to the meal.
I have seen that method a few times. I have tried it a couple of times, but it hasn't turned out well, and you can taste the plastic bag in my opinion. Dishes can be a pain, but my meals are so good and so filling, you look forward to supper time all day when you are out in the woods.. But they do require a lot of dishes... I would love to for you to share some of your recepies @Oldsparkey!
Drop a couple of pine nuts into the pot and get some extra protein.. AKA pissed off squirrel goes into the pot and into your mouth....
Looks like a great easy meal, I wonder if I could add a few dehydrated onions, or would that be crazy?
You could add whatever you like to it. I often add onions to various meals as I love the flavor
Just found your channel. I would be interested in your dehydration of meat, mushrooms etc, and your experience on post dehydration self life.
Sorry for the late response. Shelf life is very long. I keep dehydrated foods in the freezer until use. I have used meat 2 years old, and my buddy 3 and 4 years old. Keep the food cold and sealed airtight, and use the leanest meat that you can
Looked great
Thanks! It was great, and always seems to turn out great! Thanks for watching!
*cottage pie
Yeah I know I know. Substitute in some ground lamb for the ground beef and you'll be all set. Everyone where I live calls this shepherd's pie but I know technically it isn't
That's cottage pie
Correct, which is what I said in the packaging section of the video for those who want to be accurate on their terminology. Around here it is called Shepherd's Pie. I am sure you could make it with lamb. Thanks for commenting!
I couldn't find pine needles can I use twigs instead?
Anything extra to make it good!
don't forget the pine needles!
Always. Thankfully they are available in abundance!
