This a so called offpath descent function and can be turned on or off individually. You enter a certain altitude at a certain waypoint in your FMS route and the FMS calculates if you can get to that altitude at the specific point from present position without increasing drag, usually by speedbrakes. As soon as you cross the inner circle it is unlikely to match your targeted altitude without using speedbrake, increasing airspeed, extending flaps or lowering your gear. All of those actions increase the amount of drag and therefore increase your sinkrate. Feel free to ask if you need further explanation.

True. ATC assigns the landing runway. Anyhow you get to taxi by all the houses of Narita, which never got sold to the airport. Always cool to check them out

It was. This isnt the standard landing runway and is mostly used while encountering strong westerly winds. Due to the terrain surrounding the airport in combination with strong winds makes the approach bumpy
